Construction Site: Tuesday 6/26, all day

No additional fancy new hardhats today, and the work is the same as it was last week: putting up wooden framing for interior walls. Well, what'll eventually be interior walls again once the exterior shows back up.

What is new is there's a CD boombox. Instead of Xander safety-lecturing at them, the workers get music to build by. * Which... might include somebody else safety-lecturing at them, but at least it's funny.

"No, begging for it would've been the bondage pants from Professor Sciuto's class," Anders replied. "Compared to those, this is a subtle hint."

"Demons aren't known for subtlety," Bel noted.

Anders snorted, rolled his eyes, and -- oops, dropped the bag of chips he'd brought along for Bel's lunch, just where he'd have to turn around and bend over to pick them up.

And he couldn't let perfectly good chips get crunched up, now, could he?

Bel growled. Rowr.

Anders threw in just a little bit of a wiggle before he stood again, and grinned as he came to sit beside Bel.

Humans -- specific ones, at least -- weren't always known for their subtlety either.

"Well, that'll help the pounding this afternoon," Bel remarked.

Anders smirked. "Planning on doing some woodworking, huh?"

"What can I say, I'm good with my hands," Bel grinned.

Anders leaned over and kissed him rather . . . purposefully. "I've noticed."

". . . and I like to pound things," Bel murmured.

Anders chuckled lowly. "Yay for dating someone with skills and enthusiasm."

"I kinda thing we're beyond dating now," Bel noted.

"Well, yeah, you did give me my own drawer space and a key and everything," Anders agreed. "And the cats seem to think I belong."

He glanced thoughtfully at Bel. "What does that mean, anyway?"

Bel shrugged. "Dating seems like too casual a term for what we've got going here, I think."

Anders blushed and buried his face halfway in Bel's shoulder. "I just know I'm in love with you and Phoebe."

"Why?" Bel said, suddenly curious. "I mean, Phoebe I get, she's great, but why me?"

"Why not?" asked Anders. That wasn't a good enough answer though, really, so he shook his head and tried again. "Because . . . you try. Because the whole being human thing is sort of new and tough for you, but you do it anyway, 'cause of Phoebe. And that's kind of . . . don't want to say cute, but I like the way it makes you act."

He turned his head slightly and glanced up at Bel. "And now especially, now that I know you better, I really love that stuff."

"I just don't understand sometimes," Bel said. "After . . . how I treated you and all."

"After how you treated me?" asked Anders. "Or how the Source treated me?"

"The Source acted on my desires, I told you that," Bel said quietly.

Anders nodded and fell silent for a moment, then looked at Bel seriously. "Did I ever protest, or fight back?"

"No, not really," Bel replied.

"Maybe I should've, some," Anders conceded. "But mostly what I had a problem with was who was doing things to me, not what. Maybe that makes me a little frakked in the head, I don't know. I cared about you long before the Source got mixed up in things. Don't know when it turned into more."

"Yeah, I know," Bel said. "The demon part of me wanted someone to control and dominate, but then . . . the human part started to care."

Anders laughed slightly. "I think this is what some people would call dysfunctional."
