How to Blow Things Up: Week 7; Period 2

Aly was waiting in the Danger Shop for the class to meet though she planned on ending up being outside by the end of the session.  She waited for them, bouncing from foot to foot impatiently.  Finally once everyone arrived, she began. 

"First off, I hope you all had a good time over the weekend.  I had a lot of fun, and you all showed yourselves to be very capable both in the paintball looking at tactics and the use of grenades and making the fireworks on Sunday."  She grinned at them.  "Making fireworks is actually pretty dangerous because of the packing of the black powder in the tubes.  I had absolutely no qualms about letting any of you work with it under minimal supervision."  Aly winked.  "Which, if you noticed, the majority of my attention was on the other classes."

"So today we have two projects.  The first is the one I gave you at the beginning of the term which was to design a plan to blow up the school.  If you've handwavily, I assume done so, we have a set up in the Danger Shop where you can place your charges and see how the plan holds up."

"Second thing is we're going to head outside to just in the Preserve and fire off some cannon."  Aly grinned.  "Which, okay, are basically outmoded now and entirely effective as modern weapons for this world, let alone some of the civilisations some of you come from, but they're a lot of fun, they're tricky, and they're temperamental.   So it should be an interesting last exercise." 

She went through a quick but detailed lecture on how to load and fire a cannon using a Danger Shop mock-up to demonstrate on. 

Once the students had tried out their explosion plans and checked out the simulated cannon, Aly led them outside for practice on the real thing. 

"And one last thing to you all," she said with a grin after the cannons had been fired many, many times and all the shells used up.  "I've definitely enjoyed having you all in my class.  I hope you learned something and had fun, and I hope to see you in future classes I teach or in my office if you ever decide to visit."

[OOC:  Awesome class, guys, seriously.  I'll miss you all so very much.  Please, one last time, wait for the OCD is up.]

Rikku bounced a little and looked over her schematics again.

"Okay, so, I, uh. I kinda used stuff from this world? 'Cause there's not a whole lot of research on, like, Dark Matter, which is really cool but you can't be sure how big the explosion's gonna be and that could throw everything off, yeah? And I kinda worked out trajectory paths and I think this is gonna work but my math could be so, so, so off."

She showed Aly her so very handwavey blueprints, and her plan, which consisted of placing a large number of explosives in a carefully set pattern, starting near the center and spiralling outward. Most of the plans used straighter lines, but hey, she was an Al Bhed. Spirals were a thing. Call it a signature.

The C4 was set to go off sequentially, starting in the center and then moving outward in split-second tiers. Hopefully, everything was balanced so that the explosion would collapse in on itself, and the building would fall into its own footprint.

She ran around the replica school, placing everything and double-checking, and then returned, shivering a little nervously. "Not sure this is gonna work," she admitted. "But it's gonna be fun to do anyway."

Aly looked interested in the plan and a bit amused by the spirals. "That looks interesting. It's not a typical way to set it up, but that would be too easy. Want to give it a shot?"

Molly's plan involved placing explosives underneath the roof, under every floor and at the outside corner of every room. All directional charges pointing out and up. They were timed from the outside in so that the roof and outer walls would go shortly before the floors starting from the top floor and going down.

That building? Was going to get blow up!

Aly watched Molly set up with interest, curious to see how she'd approach it.

As the building went BOOM in a hail of explosives and rocks flying, Aly applauded. "Very nice!"

See, if it was anyone else Anders might have just skulked in the back of the classroom and then snuck off as soon as it was over. But that didn't work with his favorite teacher, not so much.

Which was why he came up, slowly but not shuffling at least, and cleared his throat not at all looking sweaty and sleeveless as a distraction tactic. "I just wanted to apologize."
