Construction Site [Thursday]

There's nothing like the sounds of heavy machinery to wake a person up in the morning. Fraser's becoming quite accustomed to the sounds of bulldozers ringing in his ears. It's almost familiar now.

"Good morning," he greeted. "Safety equipment, please. We're still on track for completion before the fall semester and everything is moving along nicely. Be safe, drink water and come find me should you have any questions."

Fraser nodded before walking off to talk to another construction worker.

"One of these days," Anders said in a mock-scolding tone, "I'm just not gonna bring you lunch, and then what are you gonna do?"

Bel looked around. "Steal Conner's lunch," he said.

Anders snorted. "Do that, and you're brushing your teeth before you kiss me."

"You've done worse than eat his sandwich," Bel accused.

"Don't remind me," Anders grumbled. "All of that was stupid drunken rebound crap from like a year ago."

He checked the date on his watch and turned slightly pale. "About eight days short of a year from today, actually."

"We've all got things we're not proud of in our pasts," Bel said, but he did send an evil eye Conner's way.

"Yeah, well . . . this thing in my past makes me feel kinda slutty," Anders grumbled.

"Your taste has improved drastically," Bel pointed out.

"I like to think so." Anders slung an arm around his shoulders. "Nice to know you don't hold that against me."

"I'll take it out on him instead," Bel smirked.

"Fine, but you still have to shower afterward." Anders tickled his ribs.

Bel growled and tried to bat Anders's hands away.

Anders blew a kiss at him, got in one more tickle for good measure, and opted for handing Bel his usual Gatorade instead. "So I'm supposed to go on this weekend field trip tomorrow," he said, sounding remarkably unenthusiastic about it.

"Trip?" Bel said, taking a drink. "What kind of trip?"

"For Explosions class. With the Ninja-ing class and Deadpool's class." Anders frowned. "Did it have to be my birthday weekend? I don't wanna go."

"What if someone is planning something for your birthday?" Bel pointed out. "They'd be awfully disappointed."

Anders's eyes lit up hopefully; he hadn't been expecting that. "Well, I'd hate to let 'em down."

"You should keep that in mind then," Bel said, nodding sagely.

"I'll blow it off," Anders decided, and gave Bel a quick hug.

"I hadn't given you permission anyway," Bel said jokingly. Maybe.

"Oh, yeah, in that case. You want to write Aly a note saying 'Sorry, Anders can't go on this field trip, his boyfriend didn't give him permission?'"

He wasn't exactly banking on Bel being one hundred percent humorous here.

Bel nodded. "Sure, I can do that," he said with a straight face.

". . . seriously?" asked Anders, flailing a little. "I don't know if she'd be amused by that or kick my ass."

Bel snickered. "I don't know. From what I've heard she seems to have a sense of humor. Didn't get it from her mother, that's for sure." He sent a silent wish for good luck to Alanna.

"She does have a pretty awesome sense of humor," Anders agreed. "Lords . . . I hope Alanna's doing okay."
