Building a Better Fighter [Week 6, Period 5]; Thursday 06/21

The students might noticed the Danger Shoppe looking a lot different than usual. While Kenpachi usually set it up to resemble a somber, basic dojo, today it was a smörgåsbord of bright colours. There were comfy bean bag chairs scattered around, and little tables with glue, beads, string, and other arts-and-craftsy type things. And, of course, glitter.

If anyone picked up on the fact that it looked rather like a little girl's playroom, they might not be surprised to see Yachiru at the front of the room, beaming at them from atop a large desk, and no Kenpachi to be seen.

"Hello, Class!" Yachiru greeted them happily, arms out to her side for a moment before the darted behind her back. Her bright expression faded quickly into a pout. "I'm afraid Ken-chan is very, very sick. His gigain is not taking to the real world very well, so he couldn't make it today. As his Lieutenant, I will be filling in for him. He said I should stick to his lesson plan, but his lesson plan wasn't very fun, and so I thought we'd do something else that would be fun, but you have to promise me you won't tell him, okay? In exchange for your silence on the matter, I have decided to share with you some of my candy. Please know that I don't just share my candy with anyone. I think you are all fantastic and fun, though, so yay candy!"

She began to pace the desk she was standing on with big, important strides. "Now. I know recently Ken-chan gave his biiiiiig speech about weapons and how their just tools and so it's not important to care for them. I have to admit that I'm with you guys on this one and think he's a big silly head. See?" She stopped, hurried to the back of the desk and then came back, dragging something on little wheels behind her. "This? Is my sword!"

Happily, she picked up the weapon, which was nearly the size of herself. And pink. The sheath was very, very pink. "It has a very nice colour, and, look! Wheels and a string to pull so I can carry it easily. Look at my hilt! It's shaped like a flower, isn't it nice? And see these?" Her finger batted at the little strings of beads hanging down from it. "They're rather nice, aren't they? We're going to be making these today! Pretty little beads to help decorate your weapons! It's be so much fun! There are instructions on each of the tables, but they're not very hard at all."

"But just don't tell Ken-chan!"

"If you get done early, there's crayons and paper over there, too. Because Ken-chan is so sick, he might not actually be here very long, and I think it would be rather nice if we drew pictures for him. Of your most favourite battles ever! We'll put 'em in a book so he can remember you all forever!"

With that, beaming even more than before, she hopped off the desk and got ready to bounce around to see how everyone was doing with their hilt beads and battle pictures.

"Oh excellent. He is... odd but well-meaning." Ami grinned and fingered her bracelet again. "Um, do you remember, last time we talked you said you might be able to help me with ranged attack?"

Gwynn looked at her. "Yes I do." She frowned. "Ami... has something happened?" Gwynn looked worried.

"Well, yes and no. Yesterday i remembered several things that i had forgotten from my life prior to coming here. Lets just say there is to be a lot more fighting in my life, and i can not always depend on magical powers."

Gwynn nodded. "I understand that there are times when we all have to fight with weapons. I would be happy to help in whatever capacity I can and you need."

"Cool. Well, i don't have a bow, and i want to get one. but i do not know what would be good to practice with. There are some available to borrow... but i want my own i think." She smiled at Gwynn. "And then... i need to make sure i am doing it right. Do you think you could help with either of those? I do not want to impose but you seemed very into archery before..."

"Ami, it's not an imposition at all. I would be happy to help. And yes, I can help you find one of your own and learn it."

"Awesome" Ami grinned. This was good news indeed. "I am not sure i even know where one buys bows. And they come in such varieties."

"I have some friends that will send me a good one for you. I just need to send them your height and the length of your arms."

Hey, she was Robin Hood's daughter. If she was going to teach someone, she was going to make sure that they had the best equipment.

"Just keep in mind, because it is a weapon, it will need to be kept in the weapons locker when we aren't practicing."

Ami nodded. "What kind will it be?" Ami knew of longbows, recurve bows and cross bows...

"Long bow." Gwynn said with a smile. "And then I'll have them send cross bows, too."

"Oooh...." AMi was clearly excited by the prospect.

Gwynn beamed at her.

"You are the best, you know?"

Gwynn blushed. "I think of you as a friend, even though we just met, and I like helping my friends."

"Well, if there is anything at all that i can ever help you with, i am in 421"

Gwynn smiled. "I'm in 410."

"Oh wow, we are practically neighbors!"

Gwynn nodded. "That seems to be true and thus we'll know if the other needs help."

Ami smiled. "Indeed." She looked down at what she had been doing "And now we have dangly things for swords."

Gwynn nodded. "I made a couple to give to my boyfriend when he leaves..."

"Does he have swords?"

Gwynn smiled in a slightly sad way. "No, but... I'm sure that he can put them on something else to remember me by."

"I hope so. Did he graduate?"

Gwynn smiled. "He did. Conner McKnight." Her smile turned sad. "He's leaving at the break between summer sessions."

"Oh i am sorry. That must be hard... But he can write, right?"
