Freelance Treasure Hunting, Monday, Period 5, Class #6

"Good afternoon, everyone," Vala greeted the students as they entered, possibly eyeing Karal and Dean a little oddly, "and welcome to our second to last class. We'll be continuing our efforts to learn how to resell your acquired merchandise. Assuming that your identification and authentication go properly, it will be your job to get the best price you can for your item--whether it's in money, goods, or services that you need."

"Today's class will have two parts: First, I'd like to know what you would think would be important qualities for a, uh, resale merchant to have, and how you would be able to tell that he, she, or it is reputable." Vala, of course, was very equal opportunity. "Second, I would like for you to break up into pairs and try to sell an item of your choice--one of you will be the seller, and the other the purchaser. Obviously, sellers, you want to get as much as you can for your item--you almost worked very hard to get it, after all. Purchasers, you don't want to part with anything more than you have to."

"Have fun!"

Now he was confused. "I, the method of travel is not one which agrees with me, no," he said slowly. "But I was better by the following day. Umm, how did you know I was ill?"

Karal gaped at her and then very slowly went crimson from the toes up as her meaning sunk in. "That wasn't for you!" he blurted. "And that's not what, it wasn't like, oh Sunlord." He buried his face in his hands and added a muffled, "It was not anything like that!"

"There was something strange with the phones on Friday, I think. They weren't working, or...I do not know. It was the first time I had ever used a phone." And possibly the last. He lifted his head out of his hands, still blushing madly. "It was, I was ill, because of the trip back," he said firmly, striving for composure. "And my friend was looking after me. We were having a conversation and I fell asleep, because of the medicines. It wasn't anything like you mean."

"I thought I was being clear," he sighed, hanging his head, almost starting to see the humour. "I am very sorry to have left you a message which could be misunderstood in that way."

"That," he said fervently, placing his hand over his heart and smiling ruefully, "you have my most sincere word on. Never again. I think I will stay away from phones entirely."

Karal winced and nodded. "I truly am sorry, for that and for missing your class. Is there anything you wish me to do to make up for it?"

He really had no idea what she meant by identification, but he nodded anyway. He could ask Gavin. "All right. Thank you," he said and turned to go.

Karal blushed again, but this time he smiled back at her. "I will remember that."

"Thank you," he said again. "I hope yours is good as well." With one last quick smile, he left, heading back to the dorms.
