Freelance Treasure Hunting, Monday, Period 5, Class #6

"Good afternoon, everyone," Vala greeted the students as they entered, possibly eyeing Karal and Dean a little oddly, "and welcome to our second to last class. We'll be continuing our efforts to learn how to resell your acquired merchandise. Assuming that your identification and authentication go properly, it will be your job to get the best price you can for your item--whether it's in money, goods, or services that you need."

"Today's class will have two parts: First, I'd like to know what you would think would be important qualities for a, uh, resale merchant to have, and how you would be able to tell that he, she, or it is reputable." Vala, of course, was very equal opportunity. "Second, I would like for you to break up into pairs and try to sell an item of your choice--one of you will be the seller, and the other the purchaser. Obviously, sellers, you want to get as much as you can for your item--you almost worked very hard to get it, after all. Purchasers, you don't want to part with anything more than you have to."

"Have fun!"

John laughed, and tried to explain. "Blow pops are candy on a stick that you lick cuz you want to get to the chewy center." He added quietly, "That's way worse than Mal Doran telling me to buy her jewelry for some hot night I didn't participate in."

"...I don't want to lick that teacher," Gavin decided. "And she thinks you two were...together?"

"Well, a friend of mine said that the messages were all wonky like this before. So it's likely the messages you got weren't meant for you," John told him. "Of course, I still didn't need to know about her...activities."

"This happened before?" That was promising considering some of the messages he'd gotten. "None of the messages got to where they were supposed to go?"

"That's what Molly told me," John said. "Also, messages you sent didn't get where you intended. My roommate got a message I was leaving for a date. Can we say awkward?"

"Oh, yeah," Gavin and blushed. "A good friend of mine got a personal message I was sending to someone else. Really personal."

"Yeah? Those messages have made for interesting weekend conversation." John paused, "Are we supposed to be doing something?" Not that he really cared. He just couldn't remember.

"Oh, right," Gavin said, shaking his head. "Selling each other something, I think."

"Right," John said, with a slight eye roll. "So, what do you have for sale, Gavin?"

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Um." He hadn't thought that far ahead. "...pizza."

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay. I can buy pizza." John wasn't sure how much negotiating went on in a pizza purchase, but he'd try. "How much you want for it?"

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Five dollars a slice," Gavin said. That seemed like a good price to start a negotiation. No way would he pay five dollars for pizza.

"Oh, hell's no. Is it baked in gold dust?" John asked.

"It's made of the finest ingredients in the land!"

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"What kind of fine ingredients are we talking about here?"

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good ones," Gavin hedged. "Really good ones. Tasty ones!"

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
John decided he should counter at some point. "How 'bout a dollar a slice?"

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"It cost me nearly triple that to make the pizza!" Gavin shook his head. "I can't accept any less than four dollars."

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"You got ripped off for the ingredients, man," John shook his head. "I can't see paying that much for just a piece of pizza."

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll throw in...extra cheese."

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then, I'm keeping my pizza!" Which wasn't the point of the exercise at all.

Re: Pair Up

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't want to buy it anyways," John was also missing the purpose of the assignment.

"Fine, then!" Getting the last word crossed galaxies, apparently.
