Library [06/14]

Bridge heads over to the library early to get it ready for opening before he has to go to his workshop.

Aravis, wearing something rather slinky and pink (and looking none too happy about it), wanders in, followed by a large, loping puppy.

"Do you have books on dogs?" she asks, by way of greeting.

"Lots," Bridge says, taking in Aravis's expression and the pink clothing. "Are you okay?" he asks, as he leads her over to the section with books on dogs.

"My idiot dyed my clothes pink and then turned into a dog."

Aravis wasn't big on mincing words today.

"Your..." Bridge looks down at the dog. "So that's Seely?"

Seely barks.

"Yes," Aravis says. "And while I grew up with dogs, I've no idea how to care for them because, despite my efforts, my father never let me have one as a child."

"Don't let him bite Peter in the leg," Bridge advises.

"I heard about that," she says dryly. "Equine bites hurt. Peter might deserve it."

"You may have a point," Bridge admits.

"But I've no idea what to feed him or if there's anything he can't have or if I need to make sure he does anything," Aravis says fretfully. "He can understand me. He just seems to have the attention span of a particularly distracted gnat. Or...well, of a puppy, I suppose."

"Dogs and chocolate aren't supposed to go together," Bridge offers. "I'm... really not up on basic dog-care, as *mine* is a robot and thus has different needs. But there should be some..." he scans the shelves until he finds a few books with promising looking titles. "Here, here, and here," he says, offering Aravis a selection of books designed for first-time dog owners.

"Thank you," Aravis says, taking the books. "No chocolate? Really? And what is a robot?"

"A robot is, um, a machine that can move on its own and manipulate its environment? A lot of them also have personalities and such. At least, where I'm from. They're not very sophisticated yet in this time."

"...oh, you mean a droid!" Aravis says. She's met Artoo.

"Same idea, yeah," Bridge says with a nod. "We just call them by something different here."

"We don't have them at home," Aravis says, petting Seely thoughtfully.

"They're pretty common in my time," Bridge says. "And... I guess where Luke's from too? In this time they haven't quite reached the same, um, level of technology."

"They're still vastly ahead of my people," Aravis says with a smile. "We still use candles and ride horses."

"Candles and horses are *awesome*, though," Bridge points out. Bridge thinks *everything* is awesome.

"I do miss the horses," Aravis agrees with a sigh. "But electricity is rather. And water indoors!"

"Okay, yeah, that's definitely a plus," Bridge admits with a grin.

"And really, the things people warned me about here are mostly commonplace at home." She nodded at Seely. "I knew a man once turned into a donkey. My boyfriend as a dog is not anything too surprising."

"I've been a ferret twice," Bridge contributes. "The first time it lasted nearly a week. The second it was just for a weekend."

"...he might be stuck like this for a week?" Aravis looks horrified. "He did this! The...pink! And he knows where the normal clothes are!"

"Uh oh," Bridge says. "If it's any consolation, *usually* it's only for a few days? It's likely he'll be back to normal by the end of the weekend."

"That's still longer than I'd prefer! Do I look like a person who prefers her wardrobe to be rose-tinted?"
