Interdisciplinary Studies or whatever, Class 4, Wednesday, Period 5

Today's class was held in the Danger Room. Squall had emailed the students, but the email went out late, so the chalkboard was up by the main campfire with "INTER~ S. MEET IN DANGER RM" scrawled on it.

As the class entered, they'd find the Danger Room set up to look like... The campground, next to the gym. Oooh. How special.

Squall was leaning nonchalantly against the outside of the gym, picking at his teeth, with his gunblade speared into the ground next to him. He looked... More than usual. More alert, more alive, stronger, faster... He's normally pretty bad-ass, but he was a whole order of magnitude more awesome today.

Not that that improved his personality at all.

When everyone had arrived, he tossed the sign-in clipboard to a student and shouldered his gunblade. "You're here to learn important stuff, so today, class, we are learning self-defense." He looked them all over with a smirk, and shrugged. "I'm sure plenty of you already know how to defend yourself, and you're pretty good at fighting. I'm not going to make you learn the basics if you don't want to. Hands up, anyone who thinks that this lesson is pointless for them. "

When the hands raised, Squall scratched his head and shrugged at them. "Okay, you all go wait in the gym. I'll start the wusses off with some warmups and be there in a minute."

As they walked off, Squall showed the rest of the class some basic stretches and warm-up exercises to get the blood and the chi flowing. "Remember, feet wide apart, knees bent, and breathe from the stomach, not the chest," he cautioned them. "Also, ground and center yourself, or whatever you want to call it. Become one with your inner whatever, and feel the universe yadda yadda through you... Look, it works, okay? Just do it." And with that, he left them to it.

...And then he went to the gym. See the OCD below for the surprise.

When he came back a few minutes later, there was an inhuman screeching and wailing going on behind him. "Ignore the noise," he said.

"Now, I don't have enough time to ACTUALLY teach you self-defense, so we're going to go for the next best thing." And so he instructed them on how to break away if someone grabs you. He told them where to aim on the body for maximum pain -- eyes, throat, kneecaps, groin, that sort of thing -- and showed them some techniques for doing just that, especially while being grabbed. All sorts of stuff like that, in the general "if someone attacks you, cause them lots of pain so you can run away" school of thought.

[Wait for OCD! OCD up... enjoy!]

[ETA: Mun is at work, and apologizes; meant to be here for this class to take pings, and couldn't. Am updating for him.

1) No weapons beforehand, sorry. But there's a moddable copy of the weapons locker in the corner. If your char would think to grab a weapon while he's talking to the other group - or would run for one once the surprise appears - take anything you like.

2) Lightning in Final Fantasy is magical and not physical, so don't worry (OOC) about metal weapons conducting. Feel free to worry IC, if you like. :)

3) Physical attacks and normal weapons can totally hurt it, yes. Lightning-based magic, if anybody has any, will actually heal it, and water-based magic will be especially harmful. [Speaking of water magic, the mun would like to point to the ETA note from last week. Not that it's required in any way to take the beastie down, but if you would have thought to bring it along and try it out? Have at.]

"Well, there is running. Um. I think we need ranged weapons against it. Or a whole lot of jumping." Ami carefully picked up a sword.

"Swords are metal. That thing just puked lightning at us," he says, but really, he's not sure what else to do.

He laughs a little.

"Anyone know any magic?"

"I can make a little paper bird fly around my head. So no, no useful magic. And yeah. Lightening bad. But the sword is all i have..."

"Well," he says, but that's all he gets to say as he pushes her, hard, away from himself as a bolt of lightning hits the floor where they were standing.

"This isn't the kind of fighting I'm used to!"

"Me either!" Ami says as she stumbles backwards. Well, there was only one way to find out. With a high jump, Ami attempted to slice at the Guardian Force.

Roxas stares. Roxas stares a lot.

That was one high jump.

i fail to remember if regular weapons did anything to this thing in the game...

This is my entire problem, too. I haven't played the game in SO long. KH ate my brane.

"You know? I think we might do better to RUN AWAY!"

He's brave enough he'll wait for her to come down, if she wants to run with him.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ami barely grazed the giant bird with her strike, and unsure if she did any damage, landed gracefully on her feet.

"Or at least run to over there" she motioned for a corner of the gym "to make a strategy."

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Strategy with what? I don't know how to fight that thing, and I'd really like to not end the day well-done," he says, but starts to run to the corner. "If we fail at strategy, we run. How's that?"

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Alright." Ami looked around, once in the corner, trying to see what the other students were doing.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
He's not entirely sure what everyone else is doing - he can't actually see them anywhere. They're probably around the other side of the huge bird-like thing or something.

"So, you have a sword. Which doesn't really seem to do much. I have precisely nothing."

Mostly because there are weapons, but they're all too far away to reach without being incinerated. And, in the most inappropriate time and place:

"I'm Roxas, just so you know. Pleased to be fighting with you."

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ami" Ami said, bowing. "What weapon do you usually fight with? I am but a novice, just learning, so..."

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"My Struggle bat. A big bat with a blue squashy bit on it," he answers honestly. "I'm not a fighter, really."

He looks up at Quezacotl, who seems perfectly content for the moment to fight other people.

"Or, at least not for things that size. Seifer's gang are taller than me, but they can't puke lightning and they're not that tall."

[OOC: Back in a while! I'm going to go make the best of the good weather :)]

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right. Hm... So a blunt weapon. Well. I thin k maybe we watch for now?"

[[ooc: okie. ]]

He nods.

"That sounds like a good idea. If you see it turning towards us, run. Anywhere."

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ami looked over as the thing turned towards them. "It's coming this way. You run i am going to try to hit it again."

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"That doesn't sound like a great pl- WHOAH!"

He's fast enough to roll out of the way. Smart enough not to fight it without a weapon.

Ami at least has a weapon.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes she does. And she jumps again to try to hit it, and does so, doing a flip and hitting it again on her way down. The giant bird makes a noise as if it actually felt that and flashes lightening at her.

"I think" she says, a bit out of breath as she ducks the lightening to end up next to Roxas "that actually did something."

"You need a weapon. There is the weapons locker over there."

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Think you can keep it occupied?" he says, flashing her a grin and making a run for it.

His hair's standing on end by the time he reaches the locker from the single time Quezacotl aims for him and hits its mark.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"We'll find out" Ami said as she dashes back and fourth, attracting the thing's attention. She had gone into that zoned out state where she just fought.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
He manages to get the locker open without much difficulty - for some odd reason (ignoring stubborn doorknobs), Roxas has never had much problem with locks and doors - and his head disappears inside for a second.

When he returns, he's got a sword, too, and points at the bird-thing with it.

"You go for the head? I'll get the feet... tail... thing."

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
With a short nod, Ami jumped again, and bouncing off the wall struck the bird-creature again. It was difficult to see if this was having any effect.

Landing she snapped out of her defensive mode. "I just wish he told us what hurts this thing. Um. It is made of lightening right?" Ami was used to youmas and other such monsters so knew about opposite elements damaging each other.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Running away from a lightning strike, Roxas manages to not get incinerated.

"I don't know if," he manages to answer before dodging out of the way again, "'made of' is the right way to put it. It's kind of solid, so..."

He shrugs, and dives away from another strike.

This is actually kind of fun.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] slr-mercury.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, what is the opposite of lightening?" Ami dodged and rolled to duck out of the way of another strike.
