Interdisciplinary Studies or whatever, Class 4, Wednesday, Period 5

Today's class was held in the Danger Room. Squall had emailed the students, but the email went out late, so the chalkboard was up by the main campfire with "INTER~ S. MEET IN DANGER RM" scrawled on it.

As the class entered, they'd find the Danger Room set up to look like... The campground, next to the gym. Oooh. How special.

Squall was leaning nonchalantly against the outside of the gym, picking at his teeth, with his gunblade speared into the ground next to him. He looked... More than usual. More alert, more alive, stronger, faster... He's normally pretty bad-ass, but he was a whole order of magnitude more awesome today.

Not that that improved his personality at all.

When everyone had arrived, he tossed the sign-in clipboard to a student and shouldered his gunblade. "You're here to learn important stuff, so today, class, we are learning self-defense." He looked them all over with a smirk, and shrugged. "I'm sure plenty of you already know how to defend yourself, and you're pretty good at fighting. I'm not going to make you learn the basics if you don't want to. Hands up, anyone who thinks that this lesson is pointless for them. "

When the hands raised, Squall scratched his head and shrugged at them. "Okay, you all go wait in the gym. I'll start the wusses off with some warmups and be there in a minute."

As they walked off, Squall showed the rest of the class some basic stretches and warm-up exercises to get the blood and the chi flowing. "Remember, feet wide apart, knees bent, and breathe from the stomach, not the chest," he cautioned them. "Also, ground and center yourself, or whatever you want to call it. Become one with your inner whatever, and feel the universe yadda yadda through you... Look, it works, okay? Just do it." And with that, he left them to it.

...And then he went to the gym. See the OCD below for the surprise.

When he came back a few minutes later, there was an inhuman screeching and wailing going on behind him. "Ignore the noise," he said.

"Now, I don't have enough time to ACTUALLY teach you self-defense, so we're going to go for the next best thing." And so he instructed them on how to break away if someone grabs you. He told them where to aim on the body for maximum pain -- eyes, throat, kneecaps, groin, that sort of thing -- and showed them some techniques for doing just that, especially while being grabbed. All sorts of stuff like that, in the general "if someone attacks you, cause them lots of pain so you can run away" school of thought.

[Wait for OCD! OCD up... enjoy!]

[ETA: Mun is at work, and apologizes; meant to be here for this class to take pings, and couldn't. Am updating for him.

1) No weapons beforehand, sorry. But there's a moddable copy of the weapons locker in the corner. If your char would think to grab a weapon while he's talking to the other group - or would run for one once the surprise appears - take anything you like.

2) Lightning in Final Fantasy is magical and not physical, so don't worry (OOC) about metal weapons conducting. Feel free to worry IC, if you like. :)

3) Physical attacks and normal weapons can totally hurt it, yes. Lightning-based magic, if anybody has any, will actually heal it, and water-based magic will be especially harmful. [Speaking of water magic, the mun would like to point to the ETA note from last week. Not that it's required in any way to take the beastie down, but if you would have thought to bring it along and try it out? Have at.]

With a short nod, Ami jumped again, and bouncing off the wall struck the bird-creature again. It was difficult to see if this was having any effect.

Landing she snapped out of her defensive mode. "I just wish he told us what hurts this thing. Um. It is made of lightening right?" Ami was used to youmas and other such monsters so knew about opposite elements damaging each other.

Running away from a lightning strike, Roxas manages to not get incinerated.

"I don't know if," he manages to answer before dodging out of the way again, "'made of' is the right way to put it. It's kind of solid, so..."

He shrugs, and dives away from another strike.

This is actually kind of fun.

"Well, what is the opposite of lightening?" Ami dodged and rolled to duck out of the way of another strike.

"Rock?" He ends up in the corner, leaning against the wall, breathing a little hard. He could have just left the sword alone and spent the time dodging and rolling out of the way. "Rock doesn't conduct electricity, would that be the same thing?"

"My sword is not conducting electricity from this thing either. Um, try throwing a rock at it?"

Roxas looks around, and manages to find a rock. Strange, really, because it seems to be the only one in the place.

And when he throws it, he throws it higher than he can jump, hitting Quezacotl squarely on the nose (beak?), like hitting a naughty puppy with a newspaper.

"... can we run out of the gym now?" he asks, moving slowly backwards.

"If you want. I think i am going to try something. distract it though if you can?"

Ami, dodging more lightening ran to her backpack that was dropped and forgotten near the entrance. digging through it she took out everythign she ever gotten in Squall's class. The healing potion, the weird scale from the swimming class. The healing potion she stuck in her pocket the scale she grabbed.

"This isn't a rock, but he gave it to us, maybe it will do something." Sometimes it pays to have IQ of 300.

He's halfway between her and the door, trying to keep Quezacotl's attention on himself (not a good idea, really, since he dropped his sword and his backpack's on the other side of the gym from them both.

A quick dodge of a bolt of lightning, and he makes it back to her.

"That thing we pulled off the buoy? Can't hurt to try. You know how to use it?"

"Not a clue. I was thinking of just throwing it? Possibly at the thing's head" AMi looked from the scale to the monster and back.

He looks up at the summoned creature, and nods. "It can't do any harm. Throw away!" he says as he gets ready to run if it doesn't work.

With a quick nod, Ami, sword in one hand scale in another jumps up, kicks off of the wall and flying past the bird-monster throws the scale at its head. For good measure she stabs it with the sword as well.

Landing she runs quickly to where Roxas is. "Did that do anything i didn't pause to look."

He nods, a little dumbstruck as the bird lets out an inhuman screech.

"It's not down, but I think it's heading that way," he says. "Cover me - I'm going for mine!"

He's nothing if a fast runner, and goes into a slide to reach the bag and slip underneath a shot of lightning aimed at his head.

In an attempt to distract the monster, Ami rushes at it with her sword, jumping a bit to reach it. A slash lands and with a screech the bird turns towards her.

At which point, Roxas is lobbing the thing at Quezacotl's turned back.

It makes a pretty, pretty watery noise when it hits.

"Go for its head again, I think we've got it!"

With a nod, Ami attempted to do just that.

we need to not kill ti before Squal-mun gets back, otherwise we have totally modded it. i think we leave it here until he chimes in?

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good idea :) Or at least let one of the others take it down. They were, after all, nice enough to fight it when we were not.

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, maybe not as nearly dead as we thought," Roxas yells, almost dancing out of the way of a lightning bolt.

Re: In the gym

[identity profile] orewahikari.livejournal.com 2007-06-07 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
He stands still for a second, watching the screeching bird-thing diving at him.

"Alright, I'm running."

And so he does. Right into the chained gym door.

"...crap."

Ami jumped again, hitting the bird with her sword. Her big hope was to distract it from following Roxas. What she was to do if that worked she hadn't thought of yet.
