Self Confidence the Ares Way, [Thursday, Period 2]

Ares smiled at his class. It wasn't a particularly comforting smile.

"You all acquitted yourselves satisfactorily during last week's class," he said. "Most people would have just gone fleeing to the hills. However, despite your valiant efforts, most, if not all of your fellow villagers have been slaughtered and what few remain have banished you in a fit of blame?"

"What do you do? Do you try and futilely beg forgiveness from your peers? Do you attempt to raise an army to prevent your town from ever coming under attack again? Do you become obsessed with trying to destroy the one who attacked your village in the first place?"

"Break up into groups and discuss what you would do, how you would go about it, and how this would have a positive effect on your self-confidence."

Cedric picked this group solely because he felt a defense would prevent anything like a slaughter from ever happening again. He took a seat and waited.

Naminé nodded to Cedric. "I'm not fond of war, but I shan't ask forgiveness for only doing what I could to protect the town last time. I suppose since I'm not one for obsessive destruction, either, that leaves me here. Do we have a plan?"

Cedric smiled and said, "I suppose recruiting villagers to see if they be interested in becoming soldiers for our town? Build up the people and then build up the town's defenses?"

"I thought the villagers were no longer speaking to us?" Naminé considered. "Or are we hoping that is only a majority opinion and not the entirety?"

"The second one," he said. "If anything, attempting to start a dialogue with the remaining villagers might, at least, start the thread of forgiveness so violence isn't necessary?"

"It might work," Naminé mused. "Perhaps they are grief-stricken and not thinking clearly. Maybe our efforts to reach out will show them the error of their ways."

He nodded in agreement. "And perhaps gather other men and women from other villages for an army?"

"That's rather brilliant." Naminé smiled. "We can't be the only small village destroyed by this army. We should band together, combine forces. Form a watch of some kind."

"Exactly," he said. "Pool resources as well? If one village has lumber, perhaps another village has food? Use combined resources instead of splitting them and being weaker for it?"

Naminé beamed. "You know, this seems like it will be helpful for more than just repelling invading armies. Perhaps this is how governments form. Smaller areas binding together to do collectively what each individually could not."

"I don't think the professor will much like that plan but I, for one, think it's much more beneficial than violence in the long run."

"I believe so as well. Perhaps we've taken a negative situation and made it into a positive one, then." Naminé smiled. "And the next invading army shan't find us so ill-prepared."

"And Ares can glare at us and we can laugh at him."

This group felt right to Vi, so she took a seat. "I guess the first question," she mused, "is, what are our resources?"

Katara nodded at Vi. "It depends if we really are helpless or not."

Z joined this group, although she had doubts, such as why they were attempting to protect the village when they had been exiled.
