Flight and Flying [Friday, May 25, 2nd period]

When the students arrived at the flight shed, they'd immediately notice that the sim had been completely reconfigured.

A couple of them would find the new shape very familiar.

"This is an X-Wing starfighter," Anakin said with a smile. "Today we're going to practice flying in a zero-g environment."

He waved at the door and Artoo rolled into the shed and tweetled politely, then came over to the sim and plugged himself into the droid-shaped hole on the back of the sim. "This is Artoo," Anakin, smiling. "He's your co-pilot of sorts who can get to mechanical problems while you're flying. For example, fixing shields that have been damaged by laser fire. He'll also scream at you if he thinks you're going too fast."

Anakin had learned to ignore that sound early.

He pointed into the inside of the cockpit. "There are a lot more controls in the X-Wing than the podracer, obviously. Here you need to regulate atmosphere, gauge fuel and weapons' levels, as well as communications, landing gear and assorted other bells and whistles."

He smiled at them. "But don't worry too much--you're not going to be tested on this." He sat in the cockpit and handwavily showed them how to make the ship speed up, slow down, turn and spin. "Obviously, this moves much faster than the podracer," he said, "and the sim has been programmed with the grav you'd have in your cockpit, so if you spin yourself too fast, you will make yourself sick. And then you will be cleaning out the sim."

Anakin clasped his hands together. "Okay. You'll each get a chance to try the sim out to learn how it works. You'll be in a program set way out in space so there's nothing for you to hit if you can't figure out how to steer right away and stuff. Once you feel more comfortable, there'll be a choice of two courses to run through--one that's strictly testing you on mobility, the other than also allows you to use the laser cannons."

He gave Luke, Gavin and Jaina a cocky smile. "Before you came in, I set a new record on the sim for time and accuracy. See if you can come close."

Johnny was brooding. He had wanted to do better in the course runs. Maybe he could get in some weekend practice, if it was allowed.

"Hi Johnny," Isabel smiled. "What have you been up to?"

"Oh, hey Isabel! Not much, just work and workshops," he said grinning, at least until he noticed the bandage peeking out from the sleeve of her t-shirt. "What happened?"

"And the occasional date right?" she laughed. "I listen to radio."

Isabel glanced down at her arm and frowned. "I had a run-in with a lunatic in the woods the other night. I didn't get out of the way of his knife fast enough."

His grin was slight as he thought about his date with Charlie the other evening. It was fun and he had had a good time. And then he had a date tomorrow with Savannah. "Just the occassional date, nothing much."

Johnny frowned also, "You too? I thought I torched that wacko. I had a run in with him too, actually I came upon the lunatic as he was trying to have at Jim and Lana with that knife of his." He shook his head. "I don't know how he is still living." Because Johnny was sure he was toast.

Isabel thought of bowling and ice cream with Peter, "Just having fun, I know exactly what you mean."

"He's still kicking. I threw him into a tree and tried to head off into town," she said. "The next thing you know, he was right in front of me. Fortunately the rock stopped him enough for me to get away. I told the sheriff about it. Hopefully he'll be able to do something."

Johnny nodded with a grin.

"The guy must not be normal. In a human way. No one can survive what he has taken and live to hurt even more people. It just doesn't make sense. The sheriff should have men scouring the Preserve, if that is where this guy is even hiding out at. It's not safe for anyone to go walking out and about at night, especially there." He indicated her arm with a jilt of his chin, "Was it bad enough to require stitches?"

"Yeah, definitely not normal," she agreed. "Hopefully something will be done soon. I feel bad that I'm not doing more. But running around through the dark waiting for something to jump out at me? No, sorry, can't do it."

"It was. It makes me wish my brother was here. He'd be able to heal it for me." Which of course made her remember the Shawn and the troll attack and her conversation with Katara the other day. She'd have to track one of them down.

"No, Isabel, not good. No running around at night waiting for the crazy maniac to jump out at you."

He tilted his head, "I'm sorry for your hurt. And your brother is a healer? That's amazing. At least to me since I come from somewhere where everyone is your basic run of the mill human. Not counting myself, that is." Or the other Fantastic three.

If it had been prior to her trip to Antar, Isabel probably would be out there. Not alone, because she's not crazy. But definitely as part of a team. However she wasn't about to get into her issues with the dark with Johnny.

"Thanks. Peter found me when I got into town and took me to the clinic. Then we holed up in the dorms for the night. Because I sure as hell wasn't going back through the woods," she said with a shudder.

Shaking off the memory of the other night she smiled, "It's funny you say that, because in Roswell as far as I know, everyone is human, except us. So I know how you feel. But yes, Max can heal, Michael can use these blasts of energy, and me? Well I can dreamwalk."

"I'm glad Peter was there," Johnny said, remembering the night he had met Peter. He was going to have to make a point of speaking to him again; knowing that he can manipulate fire as well only intrigued Johnny. And made him wonder just how many people here at Fandom could do it.

He smiled, "There are four of us back home. Myself, my sister Sue, Reed, and Ben." He was not going to mention Von Doom. "We all have specific abilities. I am the lucky one, however, that got sent away to school." There might have been a touch of cynicism in his tone.

"He's a nice guy. He said he'd take me to New York for pizza," Isabel smiled. "I think it'll be fun. I've never been there."

She noted the cynicism and shook her head. "You're right lucky. This place is fun. Did your previous school have classes like this? Or how to blow things up, or How to deal with stupid people?"

"Dreamwalk. It's exactly what it sounds like. I can visit your dreams at night if I use a picture of you as a focus. And see just what it is you're dreaming about."

"New York is great and the pizza just as much," Johnny chuckled. "Tell Peter he better show you around too, not just feed you full of pizza."

He had to laugh at her witty sensibility, "Okay, okay, you're right. The classes are fun and no, my previous school taught your basics. And I guess it's not everyday that you meet someone in the park who glitters you up and tries to make you invisible for an audience only he can see."

Johnny raised a brow, "That's a nifty little trick. Are there people who actually have you do this for them?"

Isabel laughed and glanced at Gavin and Luke. "Yeah, that was quite a show. I think they've learned to run from the gremlins now."

"It's a useful trick," she nodded. "And I use it more for self-protection then anything else. Back home it was more about finding out what the sheriff suspected about us and if he was going to turn us in. Here? Well it helped me find out that a friend was possessed by the Source of All Evil. So you don't have to worry. As a rule, I won't go dancing through your dreams. Unless I'm invited."

Johnny chuckled, "It was funny, I'll have to admit. Though probably not so much if it happened to me."

Wouldn't it be nifty if he could see into dreams. Specifically a girl or two. That'd be pretty cool. "I might think about it," he said grinning. "Can you make yourself known in a persons dream?"

"That's the rule. It's always funny. As long as it's happening to someone else."

Isabel raised an eyebrow. "I can if I want to. Why do you have interesting dreams?"

"I like that rule, Isabel. I like it very much."

He shrugged a shoulder, grinning, "I don't know. I can't much remember them. Which almost makes me believe that no, I don't."

"Well boring dreams are better then nightmares," she said, knowing that for a fact. "But maybe I'll have to stop by one night and liven things up."

"Haven't had a nightmare yet. I would have thought so, considering -" he said, thinking about boykissing and glitter and that it was so farfetched to actually be believable.

"Oh, by all means, Isabel. Come over and get in my head. I might like it."

Isabel grinned. "I don't know. The thing is, I only see what your subconcious puts out, so I could wind up finding out some of your deep dark secrets."

His brows shot upwards, "Oh." Johnny wondered if he had any deep dark secrets. He didn't think so. But you just never knew. "That could work for me. I don't know these deep dark secrets myself. Maybe you could ferret them out for me."

"Or I could find out which of your dates feature prominently in your dreams. And how they do," she said. "Which might wind up being way to much information."

"Ah, on second thought, maybe not a good idea." He did kiss Charlie Wednesday night, a nice kiss, a...

"Right, well, how did you do on the starfighter?"

Isabel laughed, amused at the segue. "I did okay and only crashed once in the asteroid field."

Johnny decided then and there that he liked Isabel's laugh, it was contagious and sweet sounding, "Are you amusing yourself with this class or do you want to learn to fly for a specific reason?"
