Self Confidence the Ares Way, [Thursday, Period 2]

At some point since the last lesson, Ares had gone back to his natural hair colour.

"Good morning, class," he said. "Today we'll be doing some roleplay. You are all helpless villagers, weaponless, defenceless, sitting ducks, really, and your teeny, tiny peaceful village is about to be destroyed by a ruthless warlord. What do you do?"

"Also, in keeping with the spirit of things, any and all entreaties to me will be ignored, I'm the God of War, that means I'm on the warlord's side. Instead bug TA girl."

Sam was not particularly fond of the words "helpless" and "defenseless" but he supposed he could fake it for one period.

YOUR VILLAGE IS ABOUT TO BE DEAD FROM SMUSH! OH NOES!

Katara wasn't sure this wasn't hitting too close to home for her and probably a bunch of the other students. She started looking around for more water than was in her waterskin.

Naminé took a breath and nodded. "All right. There's an evil warlord coming for us. We should prepare as best we can. Does anyone have any ideas?"

"Well, we'd definitely be harder to ~~smush~~ beat if we all worked together," Sam pointed out.

Vi nodded vigorously. "We're only defenseless if we decide we're going to be. Strength in numbers, right?"

"He ..." Naminé cleared her throat and spoke up a bit. "He said we were weaponless and defenseless, but weapons can be improvised, and defenses can be made, can't they?"

"I think so," Sam replied. "We're only as defenseless as we want to be."

"We can set traps?" Wyatt suggested. "Dig pits, tripwires, stuff like that?"

"Those would help, too." Naminé nodded. "Maybe we put the fighters in front, and those who aren't near to the back, where they can ..." She tried to think. "Tend to the injured?"

"I can easily handle tending to injured people," Shawn said raising a hand. "Kind of a neat ability I have."

"Me too," Wyatt said. "But I can fight, too. Are we not supposed to have our own natural abilities, though?"

Vi rubbed her forehead. "I don't think they can take away who you are3," she said. "It's really, really unrealistic if they can."

Naminé smiled. "We shall have to rely on those of you who can fight, then. I'm afraid I won't be much help in that direction."

"I can make more of me," Z said. "So there aren't as few of us as it might first appear."

Of course, he probably won't talk back...

"Excuse me, sir?" Naminé tried for a curtsy. "I'm not certain I understand your requirements. Or the assignment, either."

Ares waved at the class. "Just ride herd on the sheep if they start bleating too loudly."

Naminé took a deep breath. "I ... see. And you're certain you wish for me to do this, and not another student?"

"Who's the TA?"

"That would be me, sir. Thank you." Naminé bowed her head slightly and returned to her seat.

Well ... this would certainly help her self-confidence.

After she pings in.

Naminé stared. He couldn't possibly be serious. This was a mistake. How was she supposed to fix anything when she wasn't entirely sure what he was talking about?

Naminé hoped nobody remembered that she was supposed to be the TA.

(Go ahead and pester the TA, whose mun is giggling madly and will be around.)

Katara waved to Naminé. "So, our teacher, he's not serious, right?" she whispered.

Naminé shook her head. "I'm afraid he is. I'm starting to wonder what sort of class this is, myself. Do you need assistance, with the assignment? I shall do my best."

"I think we'll be okay. This is Fandom, right? The kids here are pretty bad at being helpless," Katara said with a smirk.

Naminé flushed. "I wish I were worse at it myself. I suppose that means I'll be better at the assignment than most."

"Maybe, but you're here now," she said. "Which means that no matter what there'll be other people who will step up to help you if you need it."

Naminé smiled, a bit flatly. "I'm sorry, I was only meaning to make light of the situation, and doing so poorly. I do appreciate the offer, more than you know."
