How to Blow Things Up: Period 2, Week 2

The class met in the Danger Room today.  Aly was looking beyond gleeful at the situation.

"Okay guys, our first practical class is here in the Danger Room so everyone can get used to the way handling explosives feel without the possibility of them actually blowing you up.  This one is going to be a redux for those of you who were in my Revolutions class so I apologise but review is never a bad thing."

"We're going to deal with improvised devices today, and two in particular, but first you do need to know a bit about the theory,"  Aly gave a concise but thorough lecture on explosive materials and the science behind them.  When she was done, she didn't quite say 'now that that's out of the way,' but she was obviously more interested in the practical aspects of making things go boom.

"The two explosives we're going to work with today are two improvised explosives.  You don't always have access to military material and you definitely don't always need it.  One of the most common explosives in this word - and also one of the easiest to make is anfo - fertiliser and fuel oil.  It sounds simple but a just a ton or so in a the right place could blow up a cargo ship and the harbor it's sitting in.  The other is less an explosive than a weapon.  Molotov cocktails - half gasoline, and half motor oil - you've probably already heard of them if your from this world.  They're easy to make and can do a lot of damage especially against gasoline engines or wood structures."

"There's hundreds of other kinds of improvised explosives and we'll talk about those.  What I want you to do today is to pair up and discuss when this type of improvised explosive device would be useful.  Then make anfo into a bomb and also make the Molotov cocktails.  After you have them ready, you can blow things up."

[OOC:  Please wait for The OCD is UP!.  All links go to wikipedia so the FBI shouldn't break down your doors.  More explanation in the OCD threads.  I'm kinda headachy and working today so forgive the slow pings/reused class ]

"You're serious!? So, like, you can buy this stuff, and ..." Rikku's eyes widened. "That is so great! 'Cause I have a lot of grenades but I'm running low, you know?"

And she squeed at the dyes, and reminded herself that you probably shouldn't hug teachers. "You did! You brought it! Whooooooooooa. Orange and green and ... purple. Is it really gonna ... my hair will ..."

She was giggling and bouncing too hard to continue.

Rikku clapped her hands excitedly. "This is so great. I'll never run out now. I love this class." And bounced her little heart out.

"Ooooh, that's good. I wonder if I could dye my hair blue and wear totally normal boring kinda clothes for a week and make people think I'm not me. And that might be good for ..." She looked around to see if anyone was listening. "Uh. That's ... another story."

Re: [Explodey 5-22] Talk to Aly - NFB PLEASE

Rikku looked around again and then leaned in a bit, lowering her voice. "Nothing, yet. Maybe nothing ever. It may not ... I had an idea but I don't know how to make it happen, I mean, without getting busted. I just wanted ..."

Rikku took a deep breath. Aly had just taught them how to use explosives, and given her hair dye. And had taught a class about Revolutions, and she seemed to hang out with Deadpool. Ergo, she would be all about this. Right?

"Mischief," she said. "The mutiny was fun but that was, you know. We expected to get caught, and that was flaunting it and hot naked guys, and I don't mind detention for that. But I want ... there's not enough mischief around, and there are so many pranksters that could be working together. If we could find a way. Somewhere to meet. A club or something. To promote chaos. Nothing bad!" She flailed a little. "Nothing mean, I mean, nothing that's gonna hurt somebody, nothing picking on someone unless it's, like, Hades. Just weirdness and messing with things and ... it's probably a stupid idea, huh? I mean the radio would pick it up, for one, but ... if you could do it." She laughed, a little embarrased. "Very stupid idea. Right?"

"Do you think ... it really could be done right? I mean. Code names and privacy and late-night meetings ... you don't need all that, but I think it'd make it more fun. Like it was a serious thing." She grinned, suddenly excited. "You really think it could happen? I mean, I have money, if we need to bribe the squirrels. And if I got in trouble, I'm okay with that, detention's pretty fun. So long as nobody gets hurt. I just think it'd be ... something else. You know? And I already know people ..." Her eyes were shining.

"I'm not old enough to buy rum, am I? Rats. Maybe the nuts will do." Rikku considered. "Hamlet, my big brother, because we blew up a volcano for his birthday and we were talking about stuff to do back in the dorms anyway. And Jude, not 'cause he's my boyfriend like 'ohhhh, my BOYFRIEND' but 'cause during detention on Saturday he got his skateboard out and stole Professor Fraser's hat, and our future-kid-that-may-not-happen has, like, already been banned from a lot of malls for prank stuff? So I know those two would be totally so into it. The other people in the mutiny, maybe, but I'm not sure if they're more there for the nudity or the pranking." She sighed. "And I wish that Jamie kid were still around, because he and I annoyed the crap out of Hades during one game show and it was so great."
