Library - 5/22

Some progress had been made getting the library back in order. Isabel would add to it once she finished her coffee.

For now the library was open. On time.

Smiling, Isabel turned to the stacks and called out "Be careful of the little green guys. They bite."

"What's this?"

"It is a list of all the books which I stacked for the librarian," he explained. "Last week, when I met you here? She indicated it may be helpful, so it is the title and condition of each book I looked at."

"Oh that will be useful," Isabel nodded. "But how did you remember all of this?"

"It was part of my training," he explained. "Remember what I see, remember what I read, but I can't hold it in my head for very long, so I needed to write it down."

"Smart," she said. "I'm pretty good at taking notes but nothing like this."

"It was necessary to learn, so I learned," he said with a smile. "I'm just grateful for whatever magic it is that allows me understand the language here, to speak and write it."

"You know? You're right. I never thought about that," Isabel said, carefully stacking a few books. "All the people that come from different worlds, different planets. Yet everyone understands one another."

"I asked the one who brought me, and he just said it was magic." Karal shrugged and reached for a nearby book, idly smoothing out some bent pages. "I do not know if he meant it was his magic, the power of Vkandis, or something specific to the island itself."

"I'd say the island just because there are so many other people from other places."

"It would make sense," he replied. "Imagine how much stranger it would be if no one could understand anyone else!"

"There would be even more flailing then there usually is," she laughed. "Which could be fun. But frustrating."

"And I would miss being able to read all these new book." He glanced down at the book in his hands and blushed at the rather lurid cover. "Well, perhaps not this one."

"But it's educational," Isabel teased gently.

"I am sure it is," he said, holding it out to her and avoiding looking at her or the cover.

"When you're not dating? You need to get your romance fix from somewhere." She took the book and sent it over to the appropriate pile. "What type of stories do you like then?"

"I rarely have time to read for pleasure, or I didn't, before coming here. When I did, I liked romances," he said slowly. "Though I do not think they are quite the same as the ones here. They are adventures, tales of heroes and swords and good triumphing over evil." And he looked slightly abashed at the admission. "I brought some with me, though they are written in Karsite."

"I think we can probably find you some thing similar here," Isabel smiled, thinking about it for a minute. "I know. I bet you'll like the ~~insert meta name here~~ Three Muskateers. We just have to find it in this mess."

"The mess is more important," he said, standing up and casting his eyes around the library. "All these books. If I work on those," he pointed to a nearby pile, "would that help?"

"That would be great," she said, grateful for both the help and the company. The rest of the afternoon passed quickly as they discussed books and music and the weirdness that was Fandom.
