Arts & Crafts 2, Tuesday Afternoon, Main Campfire

"Good afternoon," Steve said. "Today we're going to make dream catchers, as I have been told they are traditional at summer camp. The instruction sheets and supplies should be on your tables. If you need any help, just let me or my TA--" Steve nodded at Teddy--"know. Also, I thought it would be nice if we all introduced ourselves so no one's working next to a total stranger. I'll start. Like I said last week, my name is Steve Rogers. I'm eighty-nine years old--yes, really--and I'm from New York City. I used to be in the army, but before that I went to art school." Steve pointed to a student at random. "You're next."

"Alternate future or something?" Steve asked sympathetically. "Don't worry about it. I've found that the fact that you do exist is more important than whether you should or not." He'd had to punch plenty of things that shouldn't technically exist. "And I'm sure you're a good artist, Naminé." Steve made a mental note to add more drawing to the agenda and smiled at her.

Naminé looked up at him, surprised. She shook her head slowly. "N-no, I'm ... I'm someone's echo. Something bad happened to her and somehow I was created. She's all right again, now, but I'm still here. I'm not her, exactly, and I don't remember being her. But I don't have ... I'm not real. Not like other people are. I'm just a shadow." She looked down at her drawings with a small smile. "And I'm not very good, really, but I like to see things, when I draw them out. Understand them. It helps me. And that's what really matters, right?"

"Yes," Steve told her gently. "It is. And you seem pretty real to me."

Naminé smiled at him, a touch nervously but clearly relieved. "That's what ... someone else said. That if I'm here, I might as well make the most of it. If I'm here, then maybe I'm as real as anybody. I'm not sure it works like that, but it's ... it's really nice to think so. That it might."

"Maybe you're as real as you think you are," Steve suggested. "So...stop saying you aren't."

Naminé shook her head. "But DiZ said ..." And then she stopped, remembering all the things DiZ had said that weren't true at all. And how she really did think she had feelings, despite what he said, and how Roxas wasn't what he had expected either.

She looked up hopefully. "Do you ... do you really think that works? It almost sounds too easy."

"It's worth a try, isn't it?" Steve suggested. "If it helps, I think you're real."

"I ... I suppose it is. And thank you." She flashed him a smile, a real one this time.

Naminé had no idea why so many people here were so nice, but she was starting to think this was definitely the place she should be, after all.

After hearing the entire conversation, Michelangelo wasn't sure who he wanted to hug more; Nami, because she was obviously awesome and in need of hugs, or Mr. Rogers, for -- well, duh. For saying all the things that should be said.
Their art teacher was mondo cool.
