As the students settled into the Danger Shop, which looked like a suburban street in Tokyo, Kenpachi and all his massiveness came in with a billowing of his tattered, frayed captain's robes and stood before them with his arms crossed over his barrel of a chest. His eye scanned over the group, and he sneered. Pathetic. Almost every single one of them. Some...could have potential, but that would be left to be seen.

"Building a Better Fighter," he announced, a bit hoarsely, and he cleared his throat, rubbing at the bandage wrapped around it. "You are here because you are weak. You are here because you hope to not be weak. But some of you will always be weak. Don't be one of those people." He grinned now, something as sharp as his features, as deeply cut as the scars on his jagged face. Something...more than just a little bit psychotic.

"I'm going to skip all the getting-to-know-you bullcrap because I don't care. I might, if I feel you're worthy, but, right now, I don't. Make me care. Make me feel like you were actually worth naming."

"This is Yachiru." As if on cue, the little pink haired poked her head out and she waved with a bright smile at all the students. "She's here to help you. Or make your life more miserable. Which is also to be determined."

"This is your first task." A great, looming monster showed up beside Kenpachi, its colours distinctly black and white, its limbs distorted. It tilted back its head in a strange moan of a roar and then turned its eyes, dark and hidden behind a mask, to the students. "This is a Hollow. None of you, I've noticed, seem to be Shinigami and might never actually have to deal with one of these in reality. However, one of you..." Kenpachi's eyes went to the boy; he should know who he was, "...have managed to encountered them before. With the strange magic that is this room, however, you do not need to worry about being mundane in spiritual things in order to see them. To defeat a Hollow, you..."

There was a pause. "You know what? I'm not going to tell you how to defeat it. See if you can figure it out yourself. Get yourself 'killed,' and you're done. Don't want to see you in this room anymore until next week, where you will make up for your failure. Manage to defeat it or at least survive, then you're lucky."

Crossing his arms over his chest, he waited for the first student to step up and take the challenge.

Ami took a practice sword, testing it for balance, like Setsuna had taught her to.

Kenpachi stared at the girl; she looked uncertain and, out of all the weapons she could have possi...Oh, well. Maybe she knew what she was doing and was going for a weaker weapon for the challenge, at which point, she'd probably be Kenpachi's favourite student so far.

"Are you prepared?" he asked her, because she sure didn't look it.

Ami nodded. At least she knew she couldn't die in the danger shop.

The street was quiet for a long time after Kenpachi had stepped away. A very long time. The Hollow had eventually perched itself up on the high walls bordering the street, perching and watching the girl. It was waiting for the right time to pounce...

The time was now. It lept off the wall with a low, buzzing sort of cry, and attempted to pin the girl down to eat her yummy soul.

Ami, when attacked zoned out. She jumped out of the way and blocked the Hollow's limbs with her sword. Thoughtlessly, she searched for a weak spot on it.

The Hollow was one of the rare quick ones, easily distancing itself a bit from the girl, swords length, because the wooden practise sword was little more than a minor inconvenience. It examined her with its blank eyes for a moment before making a dive for her shin, head tilting back to reveal the sharp-toothed jaw hidden by the way it usually held its head.

Ami saw it dive, and in blocking, hit it, hard, on the head, to knock it out of the way of her shin.

The Hollow was knocked down pretty good, into the ground, and its awkward, long limbs flailed slightly in its attempt to get back up. It shook its head; that was a pretty good jab, really. But it was persistant and its long arms moved to take Ami by the shoulders.

Ami was trying really hard to not let it come close in. close in her sword was not that useful. She jumped out of the way, with a somersault, and kept her distance, waiting for it to come at her again.

Whenever Ami moved, it seemed the Hollow would move in with her, darting in and striking some where to try to get her down on her back. This time, it charged in with it's head lowered, pulling it to the side as it neared to smack her hard in the side.

Ami did not see that and the smack landed, sending the girl to the ground. Ami did not make a sound, whatever it was that fought for her was completely in control.

The Hollow mounted the girl on the ground, opening its mouth and moving in to eat up her soul.

Ami tried to beat it off with the sword.

If the Hollow had eyes that would blink, it would be blinking with the continual raps of wood against its face, but, for the time being, it could only shake it off, open its mouth wider, and move in to devour Ami.

It was just before the jaws closed that it disappeared and Kenpachi stepped forward. "You have been killed," he said. "Your soul has been devoured by the Hollow and will forever exist in torture and pain in the great abyss of lost spirits." He sneered at the girl. "You are dismissed. Make sure next time you don't leave me wondering what you're doing in this class."

Ah, Kenpachi. Such a fun-loving guy filled with encouragement.

Ami sighed. Well, there went any hope of her being a fighter. She left the class.
