Tuesday May, 15 - Period 4 - Potpourri

When the students came upon the main campfire Tuesday afternoon they would see a nervous looking man sitting on a park bench. The nervousness might be due to this being his first day teaching or it could be due to the fact that Buster had a fear of open spaces. Buster also had a fear of closed spaces so either way he'd probably be like this every morning. Some might notice he’s going to extreme measures to not actually look anybody in the face. All would definitely notice instead of a left hand he had a hook.

"Heeeeeeeeey students." said Buster, standing up from his chair. He looked at the students warily. "My name is Buster Bluth and I’ll be teaching you this workshop this summer. I hope you have as much fun learning as I will teaching!"

He let out a painfully awkward laugh that made it clear he’d much rather be someplace else. "We’ll be covering a lot of subjects during this workshop. I changed my major twenty-one times in college so I know quite a lot about this and that. But it’s still going to be fun! I know all about fun!" He didn’t.

"Really, I hope you find something you're interested in. People with few interests and goals in life either end up performing cheap magical illusions in a run-down bar or they end up living with their mother and adopted Korean brother." said Buster, looking at the students gravely. "Their alcoholic, pill popping, horny mother."

"Um. Okay. My T.A. is over there." said Buster, pointing his hook towards Warren. "He’ll be passing out the syllabuses…syllabi…is that right?"

Buster shrugged. "Anyways, I figure today we can start off with some introductions since I don’t know any of you and you all certainly don’t know me. Just tell me your name, your favorite drink and something interesting about yourself. I’ll go first! I’m Buster, I love juice and my father recently escaped from prison! But then he got arrested in Mexico. Then he faked his death and escaped again!"

"Okay! Who’s next? How about you?" he said, pointing his hook at a student. "T.A. you introduce yourself too."

Buster smiled along and added his comments to each student as they introduced themselves. When the last student went he clapped his hands together. "Ow! Ouch. That stings. Well, I think that’s about enough for today."

"It was fun meeting you all and I’ll be here if any of you have any questions about the syllabus or anything. Till then!" Buster slammed his hook into his desk out of excitement and the prosthetic limb popped off. Buster stared at the desk and then at the class in horror.

"I’M A MONSTER!!!!"

He whimpered and curled up in a ball onto the floor. He'd be there for a while.

Buster's staring right at you now in a creepy uncle sort of way.

"I uh, I'm Shawn." That staring, definitely unnerving. "I like... juice, too," he said, deciding that would probably go down well. "Oh, and I also play the guitar."

"Nice to see another juice addict!" said Buster happily. "Do you have a favorite flavor? I'm a cherry man myself."

"Apple," Shawn decided after a moments thought. "I think I'm a fan of apple."

"I'm called Andros," Andros said, "I don't have a favorite drink, I..." he paused, "I come from another planet," he decided that was good enough for an interesting fact.

"Another planet? Like Pluto?" asked Buster. "Well...I guess not Pluto anymore..."

Andros had no idea what that meant but he shook his head and said, "no, I come from KO-35,"

"I'm Peter Petrelli," Peter said. "And as far as drinks go I would not say no to a cup of coffee."

"Your mom lets you drink coffee? That's wicked!" said Buster. "My mom says caffeine makes me more awful."

"My mom's a big fan of espressos herself," Peter said.

Annette tried to look Mr. Bluth in the eyes, but it was hard. She kept glancing down at his hook, wondering how he kept from hurting himself. Mr. Bluth seemed a little...unstable? Maybe?

"I'm Annette, and uh I'm from Kansas, well, I mean, my family moved to Long Island right before I came here." Pause. "Uh, my dad is headmaster of a prep school there. My favorite drink is root beer and I probably drink too much of it." Nervous giggle. "Uh. Hopefully my mom is not horny and I just don't want to know that anyway and I don't think anyone in my family has ever been arrested. Though I might like to try it just once just to see if I can talk my way out of it." Blink.

"I'm a cheerleader and I like glitter. Thank you." She quickly sat back down and stared down at her lap.

Buster smiled. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Annette. I'm a fan of glitter too. Mother doesn't let me play with it in the house but when I'm outside I go crazy with it!"

"You play with glitter?" She blinked and swallowed back that bit of info in a totally boggling way. "Do you boykissy too?" Ooops. Probably a really bad question to ask your teacher.

"I'm Dawn," she introduced herself with a little wave, "and I love pineapple juice and chocolate milkshakes. But not together because that curdles. Er, so I've heard and not that I've ever tried that. Um, and I'm learning Latin and Sumerian."

"Hey, I took some Latin during my sixth year of college!" said Buster excitedly. "Are you interested in ancient Rome?"

"Parts of it," she said, nodding.

"Um, hey, I'm Warren Cheswick, Mr. Bluth's T.A. Um, I'm from Stuckeyville, Ohio, my favorite drink is vanilla coke, but not the bottled stuff that the coke company started selling, the kind they actually mix in restaurants with vanilla syrup and coke, you know? And you really can't find it very many places, so that makes it kind of special--right, um, something intersting about me. . . . um, I do a mean puppet rendition of Oliver Twist?"

"You like puppets T.A.?" asked Buster. "You should go see my brother. He did duets with a puppet named Frankin. But Franklin was sort of mean. He kept calling me a cracker."

"Oh. Um, yeah, I mean, puppets are cool, but I only did it, um, 'cause I was tutoring these guys in English, you know, and you gotta keep 'em interested somehow. . . ."

"Hi, I'm Summer," Summer began. "I like coffee. Or really anything with caffeine in it. And, um, I have a pet bunny named Pancakes."

"You have a bunny?" said Buster excitedly. "I love bunnies! I used to have a pet parakeet but my maid Rosa set it free. But don't worry, I got my revenge."

"Haruhi Fujioka," she began, with an air of confidence. "I prefer tea over coffee, but I don't dislike it. And I suppose the most interesting thing about myself is that I'm from Japan."

"You're from Japan? Well domo arigato Mr. Roboto!" Yes, all the Japanese he knew came from a Styx song.
