Arts & Crafts, Tuesday Afternoon, Main Campfire

As the campers arrived, they would find a tall, athletic blond man in a polo shirt and khakis presiding over picnic tables covered with crafting supplies.

"Good afternoon, everyone," Steve began. "I'm Mr. Rogers--no, not that Mr. Rogers, the other Mr. Rogers--and I'll be in charge of this workshop. We're going to have a lot of fun I hope.

"So, to get started, this week we're going to make gremlins." Steve was oblivious to any horrified twitching this comment might have engendered among his students. He was really new at this. "All the necessary supplies and instruction sheets are already on the table, so...get to it. You can work together if you want to, but please remember the glue and paint are for your projects, not each other. I'll be right over here ~~out of the line of fire~~ if you need any help or have any questions."

"Yay, New York City! We lived there for almost a year when I was little." Charlie grinned at the gratuitous compliments, and carefully taped the ears on her gremlin. "So what are you doing here in Virginia? It's a ways to go for summer camp."

Johnny was looking down at her gremlin, ready to torch it. Stupid class. Stupid glitter. What manly man teaches with glitter?

"My parents thought a change of pace would be beneficial." No. He would not tell her that they though he was immature and irresponsible. "I'm here for longer than just summer camp. What about you?" He cut his eyes at her, "What brings you here, Charlie?"

"Family stuff," Charlie said, trying to sound dismissive. "My grandpa's moving in with my aunt-- I used to live with him-- and her daughter's coming home from the Army this summer, and it's just too crowded. So they thought I'd like summer camp." She shrugged, and looked away, grabbing the blue acrylic paint to use on the eyes of her gremlin. "I might be here longer, if I can get a scholarship. I like it here."

He could understand that, he also caught on to the dismissive quality in her tone. Some people, him included, had a hard time discussing family. Maybe it was this way with Charlie. Johnny was certainly not going to be invasive. He just met her.

Nodding, he asked her softly, smiling, "Are gremlin's eyes blue? Or do you just like that color?"

Charlie's expression lightened, and she said, "I don't know, but I like blue. I thought they were just our mascot. Are they supposed to be real too?" She smiled brightly back at him, and cocked her head. "Did you make a gremlin already?"

"Blue is a very nice color." Johnny's eyes were blue. "And our mascot? You've lost me there."

Grinning, he folded his arms across his chest and said, "A pretty girl made mine for me."

"It's on the brochures." Charlie held up hers, little ears sticking out, most of the head blue now. "Blue-and-gold colors, Fandom Gremlin as the mascot for the basketball team and cheerleading team." She snickered at him, and said, "I'll bet you can talk lots of girls into doing things for you, hunh?"

Oh. That would explain it then, cause Johnny hadn't really paid attention to the brochure. "Blue and gold are awesome colors. If the gremlin isn't real then I'm all for it." He chuckled. "What makes you say that, Charlie?"

"Ohh, the hand-kissing, and the compliments, and I saw that girl over there kiss you on the cheek," Charlier said, teasing a little. "Mr. Charming. Is that your super-power?"

He laughed, "Absolutely not. Though I am totally hot." He reached out with his hand again, arching a brow, "Go ahead, take it." When, or if she did, she would feel his hand heat tremendously. Not enough to hurt her, but enough for her to understand that there was more to Johnny Storm than just the ladies. Almost anyway.

Curious, Charlie reached out, then her eyes widened in concern. "You've got a fever! How are you even holding a conversation?"

Johnny shrugged, blinking slowly, looking all puppy dog eyed, "I dunno." Yes, this was the fun part.

Charlier put a hand on his forehead, looking worried, then frowned. "Is this normal for you?"

He looked down at her, "Mayyyyybe." He couldn't lie. He could tease though, couldn't he?

Charlier gave him an admonishing look, then said, "No, seriously! Is there-- is this because of something different about you?"

"Do you know how cute you are? Nearly curls my toes, it does." With a wink and snap of his fingers, Johnny produced a small flame in his hand, staring at Charlie and allowing a small smile to crease his lips.

Charlie recoiled for a second, terrified that she'd done that without meaning to-- then her mouth formed an 'o' of surprise as she realized it was Johnny. "Ohmigosh. How did you-- how can you do that?"

Oh shit, he scared her. In a blink the flame was gone and he moved closer to her, watching her expression change into one of surprise. "Sorry, Charlie. Didn't mean to scare you. It's just something I can do." And that's only the beginning.

"Wow. Wow." Somebody like her! Almost, anyway. "That's so cool! You can just-- think about it, and then your fingers are on fire? Doesn't that hurt?"

Johnny chuckled and nodded, feeling a little shy. Why? He had no idea. He was just cute like that.

"No. And yeah. I can flame my whole body, Charlie. The ladies actually call me Torch back home."

"Torch. And, it's safe? You don't burn yourself, or anyone else? Wow." Charlie just stared, a million questions wanting to burst out, but having no idea how to start. "Is everyone in your New York City like you?"

And can she move there? Now?

"It's safe, and no, I don't burn myself." She might be a little surprised to learn just how hot Johnny can get. Supernova, baby! "And yes, my fire can be used as a defense if needed. Would you like to see more?"

"Sure!" Charlie didn't actually know how hot the fires she started became. It probably would have scared her senseless if she did; it had certainly appalled the scientists who had tested her years ago.

Johnny had this under control. Maybe, maybe... no, too risky. But it was *cool* to see someone else do what she was too frightened to try.

"How does tomorrow evening sound? You see, if I did much more now, I'd burn my clothes. That wouldn't be good seeing as we're all public like. I have a special suit, just for me. I can show you much more with that suit on." That was Johnny asking Charlie out. How smooth was that?

"That would be so cool." Charlie nearly hugged herself with delight, and grinned hugely at Johnny. "I'd love that! What time?"
