As the campers arrived, they would find a tall, athletic blond man in a polo shirt and khakis presiding over picnic tables covered with crafting supplies.

"Good afternoon, everyone," Steve began. "I'm Mr. Rogers--no, not that Mr. Rogers, the other Mr. Rogers--and I'll be in charge of this workshop. We're going to have a lot of fun I hope.

"So, to get started, this week we're going to make gremlins." Steve was oblivious to any horrified twitching this comment might have engendered among his students. He was really new at this. "All the necessary supplies and instruction sheets are already on the table, so...get to it. You can work together if you want to, but please remember the glue and paint are for your projects, not each other. I'll be right over here ~~out of the line of fire~~ if you need any help or have any questions."

Were all the Young Avengers on this island? And possibly more importantly, were they all going to cry at him? Steve sighed and turned to face Teddy.

"Let's maybe not call me that here?" he suggested. "I'm on leave, after all."

Teddy was not going to cry. He wasn't the one who cried whenever the d-word got mentioned. Or if Tony Stark didn't talk to him, in fact he was happy that Mr. Stark never talked to him.

"Leave?" He opened and shut his mouth a few times. "You're- You're not the same Cap as I know, are you?"

"No, son, probably not," Steve said apologetically. "The Teddy Altman I know is in New York, for one thing ~~or he was when I got shot~~."

((Now from the right journal! *facepalm*))

"Of course." Teddy looked down. "Sorry about that. I forget how weird this place can get sometimes."

((So would I. In a heartbeat.))

"That's all right. No harm done," Steve told him. "Listen, I'm a little busted up right now and I've never done this teaching thing before. I could probably use some help. Do you want to be my ~~sidekick~~ assistant?"

Teddy perked up. "Really?" And wow did that ever sound overeager.

"I mean, sure. If you wanted."

This was so freaking cool! He was going to ~~be the new Bucky~~ help out Captain America!

"Yes, really," Steve said with a smile. "Also, I don't know if you're in contact with him, but as far as Tony Stark goes, you never saw me."

Teddy's face darkened at the mention of Tony Stark. "Not a problem, trust me."

Of course, he wasn't the only one around... He looked over at Cassie quickly. "I'll talk to Cassie about not letting Mr. Stark know about you."

Steve looked relieved. "Could you? She ran out of the room crying the last time I saw her--something about my not being dead really upset her. ~~Also, you can't be Bucky. There can be only one Bucky. You can be Sam.~~"

"Yeah, Cassie's been ~~overly dramatic~~ ~~insanely emo~~ ~~hitting on robots like it's going out of style~~ like that since she got here."

"Yes, I don't remember her bursting into tears at the drop of a hat," Steve agreed. "But I suppose it's a stressful time for everyone. And your school blew up."

Teddy looked confused at that. "Oh, that? No. You get used to that around here. I mean, no one was hurt or anything and the aliens were really easily defeated."

"We went out for ice cream when it happened actually," He added. "She was getting better until we went back for that last fight and saw my... dad, I guess."

"Your father is dead, Teddy," Steve said gently. Then he realized what he'd just said and remembered where he came from. He'd met Jean Grey, for a start. "Wait, what am I--is your father not dead any more? Did I know this? Why does no one tell me these things?"

Teddy gave him a sympathetic look. Trying to keep up with all these people coming back to life was hard. "Time travel, I think. From before him and my-" He hesitated to use the m word because his mom was killed by the Super Skrull. "Princess Annelle got together."

"Well, that's--" a giant temporal mess, he thought. "Great! She should be happy for you, right?"

Teddy feared his family tree would become an inter-galactic version of the Summers family.

"I think she's more wondering why her dad couldn't come back instead."

"~~Give him time, kid~~ Well, I'm sorry if she wants me dead, but I'm kind of not fond of the idea..."

"Of course not!" Teddy said quickly. Last thing he wanted was another dead kinda maybe parent figure in his life, and yeah that was really selfish reasoning, but damn it. He deserved to be selfish sometimes.

"So, things went differently where you're from?"

As far as he could tell, not really, no, except for that he was still breathing. Breathing again. Something. "Apparently. Am I really dead where you're from?"

"As far as I know, yeah," Teddy replied. "If you came back to life back home, Billy would've called."

"Well, I'm...glad I'm not him, I guess," Steve said. Not that he would have admitted it under torture, but Steve thought Teddy and Billy were kind of a cute couple.
