Goth Eye for the Prep Guy - Tuesday Morning

Abby was waiting for the class, wearing her usual goth attire and holding a black parasol. "Morning, guys! Welcome to a really twisted version of fashion class. You're going to learn the ins and outs of the best looking fashion trend to hit geeks and vampires. Or geeks who like to pretend to be vampires and vice versa."

She held up a stuffed rabbit that seemed to have very sharp pointy teeth. "This is Poindexter and he wants to be a goth. He's got a head start because he's already pale. For those of you who aren't pale, you're either going to need to start staying indoors or investing in some pasty makeup. Speaking of makeup, the next step in Poindexter's transformation is eyeliner. Lots and lots of eyeliner. All black of course. That goes for guys just as much as girls." As Abby talked, she took eyeliner and drew carefully around the rabbit's eyes.

"Next we move onto clothing and one word sums up the clothing for a true goth....black." Abby whipped out a wee pair of black trousers and a black top with buckles. "Some goths will tell you that you need lace or leather or velvet. But really, all you need is black. Lots and lots of black. Rule of thumb is to stand in front of a mirror and then turn off the lights. If you look like more than just a disembodied head, you need more black. Also, this top has buckles. Goths like buckles. I'm not really sure why...maybe we have some psychological attachment to the pilgrims or something."

"Last but not least....accessories!" Abby fastened an ankh necklace around Poindexter's neck and a studded bracelet around his front paw. Grabbing a pair of tiny platform boots, she started wiggling them onto his back paws. "As you can see, the bigger the boot, the better. In fact, all your shoes should be tall and clunky. Between the shoes, the jewelry, the buckles and the obvious pain of existence; the only quiet thing about a goth should be their clothing color choices."

"Now, lets see how well you all were listening." Abby said and pointed to a box decorated with a pink polo shirt with a red X through it. "Get rid of all your non-goth clothes here. That's right, dump in your pastels and your chinos and your sneakers. Make a new outfit from the supplies on the table."

"You can tell us as much or as little as you want." Abby said. "But at least give us your name, grade and where you rate yourself on the Goth scale. Zero would be straight out of an Old Navy store and ten would be me!"

"I'm Cally. I guess I'm a senior now, and I'm probably an eight, maybe a seven on that scale."

She looked at her all-black outfit.

"Uhhh, I guess I came prepared?"

"Hi Cally!" Abby waved and gave her a thumbs up. "You're doing good, but you have room for improvement. I'm thinking more eyeliner. There can never be enough eyeliner."

Warren stood up and fairly well clung to his non-black jeans, a look of panic on his face. No one had said anything about having to take off clothes!

"Um. I'm Warren Cheswick, I'm a senior and I'm . . . I dunno, a two?"

"A two looks about right, Warren." Abby nodded and pointed at the box. "Get to it, my friend. Throw off the chains of your light colored clothes and embrace the dark side."

Zero happened to be wandering by while Abby was talking and happened to hear how the Goth scale was structured. "Hey!" She looked down at her decidedly not Old Navy wardrobe and objected, "Am not!"

She tugged lightly on a bright red chunk of hair, "This probably gets me minus points, right?"

"I'm Lucas. I'm a senior," he barely resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Again and I'm, I don't know? A three?"

Lucas hardly stretched to even a three considering he was wearing jeans, sneakers and a long-sleeved shirt covered by a Marlins baseball jersey.

Roxas stands, and looks down at himself.

"I'm Roxas; I'm a junior, and, uh, I guess I'm a 1 or a 2?"

Although he has big shoes, and no real pastels, he's wearing black, white, red and gray (http://www.finalfantasyworld.co.uk/khextreme/kh2/images/artwork/KH2_Artwork_Roxas2.jpg).

So he takes his jacket off, leaving the black sleeveless shirt (complete with zipper!) and takes a moment to unbutton the bottoms of his trousers, sliding them off and leaving himself in black shorts. And still those big shoes.

"I hope that's alright."

Robin typically is completely naked. He wears clothes only when the situation specifically calls for it.

"Er, my name's Robin, I'm a freshman, and....I don't know?"

"Uh . . . I'm Jude. My first girlfriend was Goth. Her name's Starr. Well, Nebula now. I'm a sophomore - or a junior? Maybe? I think I'm . . ." Jude looked down at himself. Not Old Navy, but definitely Zero Edge. "Three?"

Luckily, he didn't have to get too far down.

He had to get down to his boxers and his black undershirt.

safety pins
black eyeliner
black nail polish
extra silver buckles
tight black pants
black lace corset
red and black striped socks
purple/blue/red hair extensions
platform shoes
assorted jewelry

Zero decided not to trade in her combat boots for platform shoes, although the thought of extra height was appealing. Instead, she noticed her nails (black, natch) were getting chipped, so she put a fresh coat of polish on as she monitored the class to make sure no one attempted to stick themselves with anything pointy.

He didn't know where half of the stuff would go. But he picked up a couple safety pins, and started to pin them all together to make a necklace. He always felt like he should be wearing a chain or something.

And he feels very at home in the all black of his outfit.

He reaches for the nailpolish. Mostly because he knows he can spend any free time picking it off. It doesn't go on as easily as he thinks, though. Very smudgy.

Nothing seemed to be wee tiny frog sized in the main box. There were many times when Robin hated being so small. At least he was cute.

Would you believe I had to do more research for this class then the ones where I killed students? I think that says something about me and I'm not sure it's something good.
