Dealing With Stupid People [Monday, May 14, 2nd period]

Josh was obviously uncomfortable with the whole "being outside" thing as he perched on a picnic bench and smiled at the students as they assembled.

"Okay, one of the most annoying things you will encounter in your life will be other people," he began, rolling his eyes. "Most of us -- in my universe, anyway, some of you might have other experiences -- can't kill them by using our brains, so we have to come up with different coping methods. We'll get to the more advanced techniques -- sarcasm, the strategic use of an eye roll -- later, but today we'll start out with something that gives you a lot of chance to practice before you send out the final product."

He pulled out a sheaf of papers and dropped it onto the table. "Writing back to stupid people!" he said triumphantly. "In this exercise you need to reply to these obviously deranged letters in a polite way without asking if they've thought to seek professional help for their delusions. There are five different letters so pair up with a partner -- it's better to double check your language against someone else, at least at the beginning -- and write back to these completely insane people."

Josh grinned. "Questions? Problems? I don't really care, but ask anyway."

"Seriously," Peter agreed. "Plus? Mr. Lyman will probably start flailing at some point. So practical and entertaining."

"Flailing is always good. And amusing." Of course she didn't immediately start thinking of ways to encourage flailing. "We might need to make this happen."

Peter didn't immediately start grinning at the thought either. "You and I? Do something like that? Who would think?"

"Exactly. Why ever would two upstanding members of the Student Council plot to make their much loved and respected teacher flail?" Isabel said innocently. "We'd never ever do something like that."

"Besides if we wanted to make him flail, we would have figured out how to turn him into a penguin at Prom," Peter said sincerely. "So obviously we have no nefarious motives."

"Personally I'm thinking our motives are purely altruistic," she snickered. "We're trying to make sure that our fellow students have an enjoyable classroom experience."

"And because we are old hands at Fandom life, that is our obligation and duty to introduce the new students in style," Peter agreed.

"Of course," Isabel grinned. "We wouldn't want to be accused of falling down on the job."

"Student Council and all," Peter agreed. He pondered for a second. "Could we make the coffee decaf?"

"That's an idea. But we'd have to cover all bases," she said thoughtfully. "Break into his house and substitute the coffee. Bribe the baristas at J,GoB and the Perk to only serve him decaf."

He eyed Josh. "Do you really think he makes his own coffee?"

"I think he has a coffee maker set up on his nightstand and doesn't get out of bed without at least two cups," Isabel said. "The man's an addict."
