As the students arrived, they would probably notice a woman clad in form-fitting black leather perched on a picnic table, swinging her feet as she waited for them to arrive. Some students, if they had met her, might be shocked at the woman's resemblance to Aeryn Sun.

Not that Vala knew the girl's last name, but that wasn't the point.

"Good afternoon, class. My name is Vala Mal Doran and I'll be your instructor for this class. As you know, this class will be about how to make your living as an interdimensional space pirate."

"Now, the first question you may have is why you would want to be an interdimensional space pirate, er, treasure hunter, in the first place. Clearly, you have much to learn if this is your question--because first, it's about fun. There's excitement, and danger, and your adrenaline rushes, and it's a wonderful feeling to know that you have done your best at every step of the process, and that the money you hold in your hand at the end of the day has been if not precisely honestly earned...well, you still have it in your hand, so it hasn't been used as bribes or bail money, and that's always a bonus."

"But enough about me," she said, getting up and wandering around, "I want to know about you--your names, where you're from, how long it takes to get there, the most convenient travel route, and any valuable or mythical objects that, if you were from your universe, you would attempt to appropriate and sell. Also, if you know of any pitfalls to obtaining these objects, either mystical or legal, please feel free to elaborate."

"Don't be shy," she coaxed, after a minute, "Who would like to go first?"

"Lots of people have money. Very few people can say they stole from Sin." Rikku considered. "I guess I don't need it to be able to say that, do I? Still. I have money, and I'm not even spending what I have, so I don't really need more. I didn't steal it for the money anyway. I just wanted to see if I could."

Vala resisted the urge to hug Rikku. This was a student who could appreciate what she had to teach! She beamed at her instead, "And what is the next challenge for you, then?"

Rikku grinned back with relief. She'd been worried the "no, I wouldn't sell it" was the wrong answer. She was going to really, really like this class. She sighed appreciatively.

"Well. There's a mutiny planned in a couple of days, but that's just chaos. Oh! And I might go to Toronto and get back at someone for a friend. He's a, um, mall cop? I'm not really sure what a mall is, but I've been told if we get the keys we can set the whole place in craziness. Other than that my schedule's free." She thought, then smiled. It wasn't a smile that would make someone like Hades very happy, either. "Why, do you know anything that needs to be stolen?"

"Not at this exact moment, but I'll keep you in mind if I need help," she decided. "You'll let me know how the mutiny goes? And the chaos?"

Rikku grinned. "Absolutely. If it goes well enough, you might hear about it anyway. Uh, and I'll probably have detention for a while, but that just means I'm gonna go big. Might as well earn it."

Wow. This summer session was going to freaking rule.

"No, no," Vala corrected her, "if it goes well enough, I'll never know it was you, even if I may have my suspicions because of this conversations. And what is this...detention?"

Rikku giggled. "Nah, we'll probably get busted. It's okay, I don't mind. And detention is - I think it's supposed to be a punishment-thing? They make you go spend your Saturday there doing stuff. But it's usually kinda fun."

"So, it's like jail for young people?" She frowned, not liking that.

"Nah, jail sucked. I mean, they had a stupid trial where we all knew they were full of crap and then locked us up for a bit and then got all 'Now we execute you!' but they didn't. They were so bad at it." Rikku rolled her eyes. "It's more like, here, go to an extra all-day class that's supposed to be a punishment but really you end up in the Danger Shop getting to beat things up and have fun, so how is that a punishment, anyway? I might start having to go more, just for the heck of it."

"Hey, never complain about the executions that don't happen," Vala pointed out, "and I'm not quite sure. You really want to spend more time there?"

Rikku snickered. "It was a sewer. With, like, a dragon? But it was a baby dragon and undead anyway and like we can't take out one of those."

"Hmmm. Maybe not really. I guess it's just ... it's not the deterrent it's s'posed to be. If I get busted, then I get to go hang out in the Danger Shop. Sounds fun to me!" She laughed. "Has anyone shown you the Danger Shop? So cool."

"No, I don't believe they have," Vala mused, "and you were almost killed by an undead baby dragon?"

"Ask someone, it's sweet. Deadpool probably would, he's way awesome. He's my mentor!" And grinned. "And no way, we kicked its sorry butt."

"Congratulations," she figured that was the appropriate response, "and where would I find this Deadpool?"

"Thanks! And he's a teacher here, too. He's my mentor, and he's the best mentor ever. He's got, uh, this weird outfit thing that's all red and black and covers his skin, and he's kinda ... crazy? But in a good way. He's hard to miss, you know?"

"Sounds it," she decided, smirking slightly. "I will definitely keep an eye out for him."
