Spy Tech, Final Class (04/25)

Wednesday, April 25, First Period

Students entering the Danger Shop will first encounter a long table covered with heavy white envelopes. Each envelope is stamped TOP SECRET and labeled with a student's name. Technicians begin immediately handing out equipment to the class. M is standing to one side.

"Welcome to your final exam. These envelopes contain your mission briefings. You have each been assigned two targets and two mission objectives. First, eliminate your primary target. Then, isolate your secondary target and retrieve the specified item. Full marks will be given to any student who completes one of the missions, extra credit will be given for completing both.

"My techicians are outfitting you with three items. The first is a gun which fires a non-lethal laser. The second is a lightweight blunt sword. And the third is a vest equipped with special sensors, linked to both a wrist monitor and my own monitors here. These sensors will detect a shot from the laser gun or a hit from the sword. You will not be able to use either weapon to actually injure your classmates, but the wrist monitor will alert you to the sort of damage you could expect to have sustained from any shot or blow. Additionally, I will be watching your progress from the control station.

"Along with the required items you have just been given, you have access to a number of moddable other pieces of espionage equipment. You may outfit yourself with three additional useful tools to take along on your mission, with the exception of additional weapons or any sort of vehicle.

"There are three regions laid out here in the Danger Shop. You may move from region to region, and in fact will most likely have to do so in order to track your targets. The Danger Shop safety protocols will not allow you to become physically injured, but you will be able to interact fully with your surroundings. This means that you may improvise additional weapons or other useful tools, and the vests and monitors will adjust accordingly. Once you have completed the scenario, return the equipment and you may go on your way."

M took a moment to look at each student individually, and then nodded to the assembled group. "It's been an unexpected pleasure to teach this class. An experience I had not thought to enjoy. I wish you all luck in your future pursuits...and hope to God I never see a file on any of you cross my desk."

[OOC: Those of you who signed up to participate should have received an email containing information on your assignments. If you didn't, please tag me in the OOC thread and I'll make sure you get the information. This scenario is entirely dependent on the students playing it out with each other, there are no NPCs. Please keep in mind that you can't mod each other's actions or "injuries", but please also play along -- if another character aims a shot or a blow, play it out as your character would. If M catches anyone not abiding by the rules or the spirit of the game, she'll pull that character aside to have a word with them.

You'll find three OCD threads below, for the three "regions" laid out for use. You are welcome to interact with people other than your assigned targets, but you won't be able to actually "kill" non-target characters. The environment is completely moddable -- I've outlined a basic description below, but feel free to mod appropriate scenery, objects, etc. The only thing that the Danger Shop won't provide for you is additional people. Also, you may choose any three pieces of appropriate equipment to take along for the scenario -- cutting tools, explosives, communication devices, grappling guns, etc. The Danger Shop will provide whatever your character would deem appropriate, just please use common sense.

Please also feel free to email me with any questions at angel.phale @ gmail.com. The post is open for slowplay for as long as you'd like to use it.

This class has been a blast to teach, and hope you've enjoyed it as much as M and I have! Please wait for the OCD is up, have at it! :) ]

Not seeing anything, movement or otherwise, Annette krept forward keeping ber upper body hunched over as she made her way towards the front of the rail cars.

She withdrew her laser gun and climbed inside the first car, keeping her body low.

[ooc: okay :)]

Making his way, quiet and sure-footed, he approached the end of the car. This was where it was going to get tricky. If he'd been wrong about the noise, there could be someone waiting outside the door.

Very slowly, Jack slid it open, wincing at the muffled squeak it made, and dropped to the ground outside, quickly pressing his back against the train. There he waited, gun in one hand, flashlight in the other.

Moving quickly but quietly through each car, Annette alternately looked left and right out the broken panes of the cars checking for any movement. When she neared the last two cars, she paused at the gap outside, listening. Then she looked at the ladder that led to the top.

Keeping her gun in her right hand, she hooked the heel of her boot on the bottom rung and began to climb up, keeping her body as flush with the ladder as possible to help prevent any shadowing. Once on the roof, she started forward, again keeping herself low, watching for any sudden movement.

At the last car, she slowed and got to her hands and knees, then laid down fully, creeping slowly towards the edge...

Jack could definitely hear something. Faint, but it was there and it was coming from up, same as the last noise had. Weighing up his options, he twisted to look up, aimed gun and flashlight at the edge of the train's roof and, with a what the hell grin, said, "I can hear you, you know."

Either there was someone there or there wasn't.

Aww, crap! Annette stopped immediately and wrinkled up her nose, sticking her chin to the roof to try and become as flat as possible.

Maybe if she was quiet enough, he would think he just heard something. Or? He will climb to investigate in which case she brought her right arm forward and aimed her gun at the edge of the car.

Come on, Jack, come to mama... Or Make a break for it and let me nail you in the back!

"I can wait here all day. I'm very comfortable and very armed." He was positive there was someone there. "You're going to get bored. Unless," he shifted slightly, pulling out the explosives and arming them, ready to toss them up onto the top of the train. "You want to talk about cutting a deal? I can make it worth your while."

Jack? Make it worth her while? Well, she certainly didn't doubt that, but Annette was here to score big on her final.

Reaching back with her left hand, she pulled out her grappling hook and quietly hooked it over the metal rung that started the ladder leading down. Cringing a little at the noise, she then secured the other end at the belt on her waist. Her goal if it became necessary: To swing herself down the side and front of the car while firing at her target.

Pulling out her voice changer, Annette spoke through it, becoming Parker, "It would have to be very much worth my while, Jack."

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a great idea, but Jack knew Parker better than just about anyone else in the world, and she wouldn't say that, not to him. "Parker, glad it's you," he said earnestly. "You know me, I can offer a hell of a lot."

Grinning, because this was turning out to be a hell of a lot of fun he cocked his head, calculating where he'd heard the noise, set the timer on the explosives for six seconds and carefully lobbed them up and over the train roof in that direction, diving around to the other side to run down the side of the train, back the way he'd come.

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, you can." Annette said with Parkers voice, but then she was quiet, cocking her head, listening carefully. What the hell was he doing?

Her answer came in just the next second as explosives came careening over the edge of the car, bouncing close to where she lay. "Ohhh, Sh--" Tossing the voice changer, Annette swung around and down the car's side, swinging forward and to the front until she tumbled rolled to the ground. Quickly unhooking the cable at her waist she dove under the car and started crawling as the explosives went off. He knows it wasn't Parker! Crap!

Under the rail cars, she saw his booted feet running, but she needed a shot at his upper body. Crawling to the right, she came out and got to her knees, pushing herself up. Gun aimed forward, she gave chase...

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack could hear someone running behind him and he put on an extra burst of speed and ducked between two cars, flicking on his extremely bright flashlight and aiming it back down towards whoever was chasing him at what he figured was head height, hoping to blind them. "Sure you don't want to cut a deal?"

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
As soon as the light hit her, she ducked between two cars as well, backing up against one as she took a moment to catch her breath, and check the rest of her equipment.

"This coming after you tried to blow me up? I'm impressed, Jack! You sure know how to show a girl a good time!" She dug into the pocket on her left thigh and pulled out a stink bomb. Yes. A real live stink stinky bomb. The kind that could sting your eyes, cause well, it was stinky.

Pulling the pin thing, she bent low to the ground to judge just how far up ahead he was by seeing where he was standing, then quick to her feet she threw the bomb over the cars, aiming for exactly where he was. However, Annette's aim might not be spot on. She did have a couple cracked ribs, you know.

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I wasn't trying to blow you up, just flush you out. Can't have a good time if I don't know where you are, Annette." He was pretty sure that's who it was, and if so, he needed something from her. "Still a chance for mutual benefit," he offered, easing through to the other side.

Which was lucky, because the stink bomb didn't land on him, just near him and he gagged at the smell. "Oh my god," he gasped and threw himself away from the stench, hitting the ground and crawling under the train carriage, coughing and spluttering.

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
She was peeking around the corner when he came away from the train car and she fired her laser gun immediately, watching as he fell and rolled to the ground from the stinky - "Ohmigod."

Wrinkling her nose at the foul odor that the breeze blew back towards her, she sort of felt sorry for Jack now. But hey, it was better than tear gas. Right?

"It was a good maneuver too, Jack! Well thought out!" She started forward, towards him, her gun aimed on him just in case...

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing as he was under the train carriage, unless she crouched down, she wasn't going to be able to see him, much less hit him. Her first shot had clipped him, though, the sensor telling him it was just a graze.

He kept moving, crawling, putting distance between him and the stink, and turned to fire the grappling gun past her feet, yanking hard on the rope to drag the hook back, trying to catch her feet and pull them out from under her, with the intention of knocking her on her ass.

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
She was doing the crouch-walk sort of thing *facepalm* which could be highly effective if one didn't cramp up a thigh almost immediately. The stink was bad though so she had to slow down...

...and was instantly knocked backwards on her ass, the air in her lungs whooshing out of her as she blinked, staring straight up.

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Jack had been watching for exactly that and he shot out from under the carriage and straddled her hips. "Why hello there, Annette," he said gleefully, grabbing for her hands, trying to stop her from fighting back or shooting him. "Want to change your mind about making a deal?"

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, crap! "I should have saw that coming," she blinked him into focus clearly and instantly tried to grab at her weapons. Which was futile since he grabbed her hands and held them easily. Too easily. She frowned, pursing her lips.

"How long are you giving me to think about it?"

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmmm." He transferred both her hands to one of his and reached for the pendant which presumably she was wearing since that was what he was supposed to retrieve from her?. "How about you give me this, I help you up, and we talk about it. I'll have half of what I need, and I might be able to arrange to let you get what you need from me without a fight if you help me with my second goal."

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
The pendant was on a chain around her neck and he pulled it free without much resistance from her. Of course, he had her pinned pretty darn good didn't he?

"Hmmm, how tempting that sounds. What exactly is it you think I need from you, Jack?" Because he was going to let her shoot him? In exchange for a pendant? Somehow Annette was a little skeptical.

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm guessing you need to shoot me, right? Everyone's got one person to kill and one person to retrieve something from." He slipped the pendant in his pocket and sat back on his heels, still hanging onto her hands, grip gentle but firm. "I've got my thing, and I've got to go and shoot John Connor. You help me do that, and I'll let you shoot me without a fight. This is just pretend, so I'm not going to get hurt. Hell, I'll even help you retrieve your item before that. That way we both pass." He tilted his head at her. "What do you think?"

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"You've got to shoot John?" Her eyes lit up. "Yeah, I know it's pretend and that is awfully generous of you, Jack." Should she mention that she already got her item from John? Yes, he shot her but she retrieved the ipod she was supposed to take.

"I'll help you. And Jack, perhaps I should hold your thing for you while I help you? Someone out there is supposed to get it from you right? What if they can't get it? In the end, you get shot, but at least no one can steal this thing you are protecting." Which might not exactly be fair-play. But was anything ever fair in the game of espionage?

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
He rolled his eyes at her. "Sure, Annette. That's gonna happen." About as likely as him actually letting her shoot him. "Do we have a deal? I let you up, without shooting you, you help me get John, and I stop trying to avoid you shooting me," he said. "Otherwise I'm going to truss you up with the grappling line and leave you here. Actually, maybe I should just do that, anyway."

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
She studied him. Jack had to be lying to her. What with the eye roll and everything and not letting her saftey-hold his thing.

"Sure, Jack," she smiled. "We have a deal. No need to truss me up, really. I don't think that would be a very good idea. I'm pretty fast and could shoot you before you get the deed accomplished. But see? I'm being all nice and agreeing to your deal, so just let me up and we'll go get John. Want me to ferret him out for you? You could be hiding and I could bring him right to you. Easy as pie." And I think I'll have to shoot you first, sorry.

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I think you're lying through your teeth," he laughed. "Which makes me like you even more. It doesn't, however, incline me to trust you." The grappling line was right there, at her feet, and he shifted her hands to one hand again, holding them tight, putting his full weight on her. "And I think I'm going to have to go with option number two," he said sadly, hand inching back for the line. "Sorry. But I'll make sure someone finds you."

Re: Region One: The Abandoned Rail Yard

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Jack...Jack..." Blink. She sounded like that one movie didn't she? "Jack, please, there is no need to do this. I promise. I'll come with you and help you and shoot you later. John is devious and plays dirty. Let me help you. Jack?"

Annette's big blue eyes filled with tears. Yes, she forced them, but that hardly mattered.

"Jack, please..." As soon as he inched his hand back behind him for the line, Annette bucked wildly, trying to dislodge him off her, even as she tried to bring the hand that held her two together, towards her mouth. She would resort to biting if she had to.
