Revolutions: Week 15, Period 5

The class met in a normal classroom today.  Aly waited at the front of the classroom for everyone to come in.

"Afternoon, everyone.  Welcome to last class of the semester.  This is supposed to be a final exam, but without sending you overthrow the school administration - which I am not endorsing-" she added quickly, glancing at Jamie if he was there.  "There's really not much of a scope for a practical examination."

"So I hope that you've all learned things.  And I hope that you don't hesitate to put what you learned to use in defense of your people, your country, or anyone who needs it.  I have the notes here from our first class.  What I'd like you to do is look over your answer to the question 'when are revolutions appropriate, and what would it take for you to rebel against the current power structure.'  Take a look and then tell me if your opinion has changed.  Why or why not?"

After the discussion was over, she nodded.  "I've enjoyed having you all in class.  If I can help any of you in the future, let me know.  And given that our topic this semester has been war and revolution, I'm going to leave you with a quote I found from one of the founding statesmen of this country.  It's something to think about:  'I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, [...] in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music...'"

[OOC:  OCD's up.  Quote is from John Adams and way shortened.  I love you all like pie and give you pie.  Or cake if that's your thing.  And, umm, because I forgot in the OCD, let me know what grade you think you deserve when you sign in or in the OOC thread]

Bridge thinks about the questions carefully, before deciding on his answer. "My answer to the first question hasn't changed," he says finally. "I still believe a revolution is appropriate when the government in power has failed its people. But... I think that *now*, if I were in such a situation, I might notice the signs of a corrupt and failing government quicker, and hopefully be able to take action sooner."

Sam shook her head, "No, I don't believe my answer has changed. Revolutions are not to be undertaken lightly, but sometimes they're necessary."

D's answers had remained the same, but she had a new question.

She raised her hand, "what if one were to want to break a revolutionary force from the inside, Miss?"

"I don't think my totally handwavy answers have changed," Marie said. "I still think that sometimes people need to take matters into their own hands if it's going to benefit the majority in the long run."

"I'm not exactly the same person I was at the beginning of the class," Bel said. "So I guess my answers have changed."

"It hasn't changed the motivations," Parker said. "But some of the implementation... yes, definitely that."

Zuko's answer? Did not change. Be very shocked.

Walter's opinions on the matter had changed very little.

Anders was not at all looking at certain significant-other type people in the classroom before he spoke up.

"I gotta say, I think I'm a lot more in favor of, um, dramatic shaking-up of the system now than I was at the beginning of the semester. Sometimes it's not pretty and it can be damn messy, and it can blow up in your face, but . . . that doesn't mean it isn't worth the effort."

"I think my answer is still the same. Revolutions are necessary and stuff, but at least now? I have even a better chance of having a succesful revolution."

"It's the same." He played with a pencil rather than caring so much about the discussion going on. "Sometimes the good guys become bad guys and new good guys need to take them out."

"It hasn't changed at all," Aeryn says. In fact, she believes it moreso now. Thanks, Anakin.
