Luke nodded and dropped a kiss on the top of her head. "I will," he promised.

"And be nice to your father," she added. "It was his birthday yesterday."

Luke's mouth hung open. "...it was?"

"Yes, he's twenty-five now."

She dropped her voice. "Or forty-three, but who's counting?"

"I didn't know," Luke said. "I didn't get him anything!"

Luke continued to flail. "I should've known!"

"I don't know!" Luke said. "But still..." he thought about it for a moment. "I'll find something!"

He gave Rory a hasty kiss on the cheek and practically sprinted out of the library.
