[Computer Science - Week 14, 4th Period]

Today, Logan was not alone in the Danger Room, his partner being a young girl with dark blonde hair and a confident grin. Logan glanced at her as everyone took their seats and she bounced on her toes before stepping forward

"Hullo," she said, trying to seem prim, but ruining it with an excited bounce. "My name is Nighten, and I'll be teaching your class today. My daddy says it's supposed to be about computers and how they can also be friends or com- ah, com-pan-ions.

"Computers can do that by being smart or strong and helping people. Sometimes they're robots, too, so they can lift things or walk your dodo for you."

Nighten looked very excited as she looked at everyone. "Today, you will be coming up with a list of things you would want from your robot compagne. Ah, I mean, companion," she said quickly. "And then we will try to make one here in the danger room, to match your speficication." She waved her hands. "So, go on, I'll be around shortly!"

[OOC: So, yes, work with your kiddies if they're in class, and then you'll get a random robot thrown at you to do with as you will! It might match your specs or be crazy and/or malfunctioning, since Nighten's never actually programmed a Danger Room before. Have fun!]

The robot was supposed to be able to sit, and listen, and hug. That was all she wanted.

Cally 'aww'ed a little.

"Oh, that's lovely!" Nighten said, grinning at the description. "I know just the thing--"

Moments later, a teddy bear (http://z.about.com/d/collectdolls/1/0/u/K/teddyai.jpg) appeared in front of Perfectly. It blinked and stood up carefully. "Hello, what's your name?"

"Perfectly Normal," she said. "What's yours?"

"Teddy," the bear responded, blinking black-button eyes at Perfectly. "Do you need a hug, Perfectly?"

"I'd like a hug," Perfectly said with a little nod. "Thank you, Teddy."

Teddy toddled closer and held up his arms to Perfectly. "That is what I do, Perfectly," he said in his little, rumbly voice.

Perfectly hugged Teddy, and even managed a little smile. "It's still nice of you, all the same," she said.

Guu, who had stopped calling Nova 'papa' only to start calling him 'zipper hat', was now making a list of all the things that their robot should be.

Nova merely watched.

He began to realize that the description of the robot fit Guu's own appearance (http://pics.livejournal.com/bellyoftheguu/pic/0000bp42). Also, the robot was meant to be a hundred feet tall and seemed to have the sole purpose of destroying things.

"Oh..." Nighten looked at the description, then up at the ceiling. "I suppose it might fit."

She backed away and soon a robot (http://pics.livejournal.com/bellyoftheguu/pic/0000bp42) towered over them, though it leaned down to look at Nova and Guu more closely.

Guu smirked at her vision as it stood before her. She looked back at Nova to see his reaction. He seemed to be hiding his face though. Yes, this will do, she thought to herself.

The robot, reacting in its own robot way, reached for the both of them, meaning to pick them up.

Mac, she just wanted her robot to be able to make vegan snickerdoodles. Something that can make you cookies, definitely makes for a good companion.

Nighten giggled. "Snickerdoodles is a good word," she said, grinning at Mac. "I like your robot."

A green robot (http://research.leidenuniv.nl/content_images/research/armar_2_robots.jpg) appears shortly, along with a kitchen for it to work in - which it does most efficiently, mixing together ingredients quickly.

Ami let the kid do the work this time. Akira made a flowchart. The robot was supposed to be able to go forwards and backwards, climb stairs and pass a Turing test. Ami silently wandered how her five year-old knew about the Turing test.

Nighten blinked at the description, frowning slightly. "What's a Turing test?"

Akira looked up. "It is a test... that lets you tell a person from a machine. Only Really true robots pass."

Sabrina was very excited to be able to help her mom work on her list.

They planned that the robot would be well versed in science, engineering and medicine. Actually it seemed to be created so that if in the event a starship was stranded on the other side of the galaxy they would have a robot who would be able to help out with the crew.

Rikku tried to trim down Bayla's list to something reasonable.

In the end, the list they submitted was:

- Can jump up and touch its own toes
- Spits out jelly beans
- Has laser eyes
- Smells like toast
- Knows all the words to "Rapper's Delight"

Rikku sighed, very, very grateful that she had talked Bayla out of "riding a magical purple-and-green elephant."

As the others did, Willow let Susie decide the robotic specs. Susie thought about it for a long time and decided that she would like a robot that could make tea for a tea party.

Willow helped Susie write that down.

Mingle, chat, pull each others' hair...

While quiet and somewhat bemused, he is there.

Of course, Nighten's available for questions as well.

A small, bossy girl ~~crashed~~ attempted to audit the class. Totally auditing. Really.

She wasn't going to try and bilk the school computers for information. Nope. Not at all.

And to that end, Jade approached the professor. "Excuse me, sir."

"Yes?" Logan looked up and smiled at the girl. "How can I help you?"

"Is this Computer Science?" Jade asked because she didn't see any computers.

"Yes," Logan said, giving the girl an odd look. "Are you looking for someone?"

"No." Jade said too quickly. "I'm looking for a computer. And I don't think your robots are very accurate."

Yes, she was polite like that.

"Well, they're simulated robots made by the Danger Room," Logan explained bemusedly. "I'm sorry they don't measure up."

"Mummy could help you a lot with that." To Jade's mind, everyone knew who her parents were. "...so the room is a computer?"

Oooooo, possibilities were rising on her mental horizon.

Logan may have not had too much experience with kids, but he could tell a suspicious tone from a mile away. He eyed the girl as he nodded slowly. "What exactly is it you're looking for?"

"Information of course." Jade said as though that were the most obvious thing in the world.

*hugs Nighten and wants to keep her forever and ever*

Nighten Cale is seriously a Jasper Fforde worthy name. I giggled A LOT when I saw it :)
