Monday, April 16, Period Two

A large projection screen decorates one wall of the classroom, and there's a nice assortment of pastries, muffins, popcorn and pretzels on the table in the center of the room.

"Good morning everyone. We were scheduled to have a test today, but I felt it was hardly fair to give you a test the week before finals. So instead, we'll be watching a film that's full of the classic fairy tale elements - The Ogre and the Ass ~~and it always said that omg~~. You'll probably recognize some of them from the stories we've read, although you'll find they've been turned a bit on their side. Please remember that next week you'll be making your project presentations, so I'll be available in my office tomorrow, or after class today, for any questions."

"Yep." Maggie looked at him expectantly. "Can I see your wings?"

"I...my wings?"

Aziraphale wasn't sure if the middle of his classroom was the proper place to be showing off his wings. But it was hard for him to say no to people, especially when they were small and gave out hugs and kisses.

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt anything, my dear," he said, giving in. He shifted just a little bit in his chair, to make room for the wings, but kept them close to his body when they unfurled so as not to knock anything over or call undue attention to himself.

Maggie clasped her hands together delightedly. "Bootiful wings!" she exclaimed, then got very serious. "Mustn't touch, just to look at." She put one finger out carefully. "Not 'less Unca Phale says it's otay and then very, very gentle."

She looked up at him hopefully.

"Uncle Phale says it's all right," Aziraphale replied, chuckling softly and cradling Maggie in the crook of his arm. Children still made him nervous, just because he hadn't spent much time around any, but it didn't take long for him to be charmed by them either.

Maggie very, very carefully ran one small finger over the wings, then beamed up at him. "They are very soft!" she exclaimed. "Like a kitten fur!" She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him again. "I was careful, wasn't I, Unca Phale? I didn't grab or pull or anything!"

"Yes, my dear," Aziraphale replied softly, beaming at the kiss. "You were very careful indeed. James would be very pleased at that, you know."

He thought for a moment, and then said, "Would you like to sit here with me, while we watch the movie?"

Maggie smiled happily. "Unca Jimmy would be proud? Can you tell him?" she asked.

She gave his question some consideration. "Yes," she said after a bit. "But I have to sit with Mommy too or she'll miss me. That's what she always says."

"I'll tell him all about it," Aziraphale promised, smiling. "And I'll tell you what. I wouldn't want your mum to feel lonely, so why don't you give me another hug, and then go take your mum something sweet to share with her. Do you think she'd like that?"

Maggie nodded happily. "She likes brownies," she announced, hugging Unca Phale firmly and kissing him again. "And she loves you and I do too!"

"I..." Aziraphale was a little at a loss for words, because frankly, he wasn't used to anyone but Wilson telling him that they loved him. But he hugged Maggie warmly, and said, "I love you both as well. And I think there's a plate of caramel brownies right there on the table, just for you and your mum."

Maggie's eyes grew wide and she wagged a finger at him. "No, no," she said. "Mustn't be greedy. Not the whole plate. One is plenty. That's what Mommy always says."

She softened because he was her Unca Phale and she loved him very much. "But that's okay. You are very nice to share." She kissed him again just in case she'd hurt his feelings.

Chuckling, Aziraphale kissed Maggie's cheek and waved his hand at the plate, turning it into a little box instead.

"You go ahead and take them all, and what you and your mum don't eat, you can take with you and share with someone else. How about that?"

"With DADDY!" Maggie said excitedly and took the box happily. "T'ank you, Mr. Phale. Mommy always says you make the bestest brownies ever!"

"You're very welcome, Miss Margaret. Tell your mum and daddy that I hope they enjoy the treats."

Aziraphale was probably going to be smiling over this discussion all the way back home today.

"I will," Maggies said, beaming. She started away then turned and ran back for one last hug and kiss before going back to her mommy. "Love you, Unca Phale, bye!"
