Governments I

[OOC: Unless it becomes absolutely necessary, I think one post for all sections is just dandy.]

Governments I

Good morning everyone.

I’d like to begin by getting to know the class. If you could tell me why you picked this class… “Because I had to” is not an acceptable answer. We all have choices, whether it is clear or if it is not.

I’d also like to know what you hope to learn here.

Now, we’re going to have little bit or a writing assignment here. This won’t be graded. Yes, you have to do it as it does count towards class participation. For the next class, I want you to give me a minimum of 1 page, double spaced, answer to this question:

What do I think a government’s job is?

We will be discussing this next week.

Hello, Pad-Senator Amidala.

Why am I here? Because there has to be a better way of running things than the one currently established in the Republic, with the endless arguments and the pointless posturing. I want to learn about other approaches, see what can be applied to make the Republic more efficient and streamlined.

I've been reading some interesting things about empires.

*sits towards the back, feet up on the desk*

Oh, why did I pick this class? Well, I was fighting in this little war for the freedom of Earth and Space up until recently, and it was all because those damn government-types are obsessed with war-mongering and armaments. I figured taking this class might give me a little insight into their twisted minds. *grins cheekily*

I am taking this class because it has been impressed upon me how important it is to understand the workings behind governmental systems and their politics. It will be useful to know the whys and wherefores, and not merely how to bend the rules and overthrow corrupt or nonprofitable regimes...

Ah, my mistake. We'll be covering that in Advanced Negotiations.

Three words: rule by conquest.

Three more: and you're hot.

Yeah, but that's the part I'm interested in. Might makes right and all that. The strong nations take over the weak.

So, uh, if I fall behind, do you do any one-on-one tutoring?

I have a bit of experience in the area of governments (albeit monarchy), and wish to learn more about the system and how it works. Hopefully I will not have to use any of it.

I'm sorry, I missed the bit when I was reading my book.

I think a government is a body of people put together either by election or birthrite responsible for maintaining a boarder sense of law and order. Which basically means they are the people who pull the strings and watch the little puppets dance for their own amusement and political gain.

Uh, is this the Wednesday class or the Thursday class? Or is this like that weird English class?

Why am I here? Because I should be elsewhere. I'm supposed to be head of state but thanks to certain treacherous usurper, I'm not. I'm a little jaded by absolute monarchy so I'm curious about other systems of government. Meritocracies seem interesting.

(OOC: *hopes this means that this is Thursdays' Goverments 1 post as well* *is not quite up to speed right now*)

I took this class because it seems like a good class to take along with Journalism. And because I want to see if Ankh-Morpork's ruling system is as insane compared to others as I think it is.
