Sam was a little more alert than usual when he went to open the library. That didn't mean he wasn't clutching to his coffee cup like a lifeline though.
Sam decided to forgo his homework for the moment, since he was still annoyed by the lack of truthiness in history class, and started up the Sims again. A few minutes later, there was another house on the block, with a Sim!Dawn.
Sam wasn't terribly surprised when both Dean and Alec immediately started flirting with Dawn. He almost felt bad manipulating them into the bedroom to get them out of the picture.
Dean nodded. "Dad called me from the clinic -- and you too but got your voice mail. He was coughing a lot on the phone so it sounds like they both swallowed a lot of smoke, but other than that, he said they're fine."
"It could have just been a regular fire," Sam said, trying to sound reassuring. "Those happen. It wouldn't make sense for it to be a...non-regular fire now."
"You mean because it isn't six months after Grace is born?" Dean shook his head. "If it is... maybe it just got tired waiting. Or maybe it's something else -- there's a hell of a lot of other things out there that use fire. I don't know. I just... Not Dad. Not in a fire. That's just... no."
"He said he's all right, both he and Zoe. If it was the demon, or anything else, they probably wouldn't be," Sam argued. "We should check though, just to see what we can find."
"Definitely," Sam agreed. He grabbed the phone on the desk and left handwavey voicemails for the other aides, as well as Ms. Readman, shortly explaining the situation without going into details. That sort of thing was most certainly a Winchester trait.
"Okay, I should be all set here, and I'll apologize more to Ms. Readman later," he said. "Do you want to go to the clinic first?"
