Ethics [Monday, April 9, 5th period]

Anakin leaned against his desk as he waited for the students to arrive. "Okay," he said, clasping his hands together. "We spent a few weeks talking about the Seven Deadly Sins. Today we'll talk about the Seven Virtues: chastity, abstinence--which aren't the same thing, believe it or not--liberality, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility."

Anakin...was good at pretty much none of those. "These words could all be used to describe Jedi," Anakin continued, walking around the room, "though, admittedly, not me as a young apprentice. As difficult as it is to avoid the pitfalls of the sins, the ideals of the virtues are equally as hard to attain." He waved a hand. "Pair up and discuss which of these virtues you'd excel at, and which one you would find the most difficult."

He turned a warning eye towards Dean and Sam. "If you two get into another argument today, Force help you," he warned. "Patience has never been my particular virtue."

He laughed at the comparison. "I think that's a good way to describe it. So, maybe I win and fail at humility. I can fail at patience a lot."

"Oh hell yeah," Dean agreed. "I mean I can sit and watch if it's a stakeout situation or something, but... Life's short. You shouldn't waste time."

"And there's only so much patience you can have before you just say 'forget it' and do it yourself," John said. "Or before you yell at someone."

"Or both. Sometimes you just have to knock some heads together."

"And most of the time, that makes you feel better," John said. "Even if it wasn't the right thing to do."

"Yeah." He looked at John wryly. "We're not sounding too virtuous so far."

"I know." John made a face. "Being virtuous sounds boring."

"Yeah, really. I mean, take that abstinence one... "

"Seriously," John agreed quickly. "Saying I failed at that seems kinda crude but dude..."

"The human race would be in trouble if more people didn't fail at it," Dean opined.

"Good point," he said, nodding. "See, not being virtuous has it's benefits! And it's fun!"

"And not being abstinate can keep you out of worst trouble because you're too busy to get into anything dangerous," Dean pointed out. "Definitely often the lesser of two evils."

John laughed a little because he was totally mature. Really.

"Looking at all these virtues, I both fail and excel at them. It just really depends."

Dean grinned. "I think that's what makes us human."
