Forensic Science - March 28th 5th period

The classroom was dark when the students entered and Abby was standing by the rack of laptops she had handed out last week.

"We're going to be using these today to solve our crime." Abby said, loading a program on one and explaining how to do handwriting analysis. "Also, you're going to be looking for matching injuries in crime databases. When you're not sure what happened at a scene or you want to check and see if this fits the profile of different crimes, you can enter the information and look for a match."

"Today's crime scene is very cool. It's our first hanging!" Pulling the door open to the crime scene, Abby grinned excitedly and ushered the students into the room where Bel lay on the ground. "Police found our dead guy this morning swinging from the rafters. They cut him down but they aren't sure if he's a suicide or the victim of a homicide. It's up to you guys to decide what happened."

"10:59 PM," Bel answered helpfully.

"Couldn't just have held out for one more minute, made it a round number?" Mac asked, as she jotted it down.

"The rope did not take your OCD into account," Bel snickered.

"You're the one doing the dying, I'd say you need to be the one pandering to my perfectionism," Mac replied with a slight smirk.

"Was it even the rope that killed you?" she asked, tapping her pen against the edge of her worksheet. "Or did someone string you up later?"

"I died of suffocation," Bel said. "And I've got broken fingers and bloody fingernails, scratches on my neck, and a bump on the back of my head. What do you think?"

"I'm thinking, either someone killed you, or you got your ass kicked cage fighting," Mac said scrawling everything down. "Possibly both."

"Were you or your murderer kind enough to leave a note?"

"Nobody kicks my ass," Bel grumbled. "There's a note over there." He pointed nearby to where there was a slip of paper on the ground. It said "Goodbye cruel world," but the handwriting was kinda girly.

Mac read through the note, and rolled her eyes. "That's such a cliche," she muttered. "They couldn't come up with anything better?"

She shook her head, and folded it under her worksheet. Then pulled out her camera. "Say cheese?" she suggested.

Bel beamed for the photograph. Yeah, great job being a dead body there.

Mac giggled, and snapped a couple of shots. "Great," she said cheerfully. "Unless you've got anything else you want to share, I think we're done?"

"I think you got everything," Bel said. "I'll just go back to being dead now, then."

"Enjoy," Mac said tucking her pencil back into her clipboard and wandering back towards the lab to do some analysis.
