Forensic Science - March 28th 5th period

The classroom was dark when the students entered and Abby was standing by the rack of laptops she had handed out last week.

"We're going to be using these today to solve our crime." Abby said, loading a program on one and explaining how to do handwriting analysis. "Also, you're going to be looking for matching injuries in crime databases. When you're not sure what happened at a scene or you want to check and see if this fits the profile of different crimes, you can enter the information and look for a match."

"Today's crime scene is very cool. It's our first hanging!" Pulling the door open to the crime scene, Abby grinned excitedly and ushered the students into the room where Bel lay on the ground. "Police found our dead guy this morning swinging from the rafters. They cut him down but they aren't sure if he's a suicide or the victim of a homicide. It's up to you guys to decide what happened."

Cassie eyed Bel.

"So... rectal temperature?" she said.

Bel's eyes snapped open and he edged away from Cassie, despite being dead. "You're not sticking anything there!" he said.

"I mean, what does it tell me?" Cassie said. "You're a bad dead person."

"I'm not bad, I'm the only one around with actual experience," Bel grumbled. "And I died at 10:59 PM."

"And what wounds do you have?" Cassie asked.

"Scratches on my neck around the rope, broken fingers and bloody fingernails, and a bump on the back of my head," Bel responded. "Not that I can really die by hanging. I think."

"You've got a strong neck?" Cassie asked.

"I'm like invulnerable now or something," Bel said. "I heal really fast."

"Now? You... did you develop mutant powers?" Cassie asked.

Classwork? What classwork?

"It's, um, a demon power," Bel admitted. "Not so much mutant."

"Oh," Cassie said. "Like... evil demon?"

"No!" Bel said hastily. "Not evil. So not evil anymore. Evil people don't volunteer for Forensics class."

"Oh, okay," Cassie said. "Not, like, gonna be future in the evil?" She realized that came out wrong. "Erm, evil in the future?"

"Not planning on it," Bel said. "I'm totally on the side of good now. Really."
