Sam didn't bother going to the Perk this morning, wanting to minimize the amount of time he spent ~~out of hiding~~ in town, and just headed straight for the library.

Sam sighed, but Alanna seemed genuinely curious, so he figured giving his spiel one more time couldn't hurt. "The point of the e-mail was to make sure that everyone knows about where Alec came from, so they can understand the potential danger in him being here at the school. I've seen what Alec can be like when he's not pulling his cute and innocent act, and I figured everyone else deserved to know about what he's really like too."

"So you're saying that just because someone's had military training that makes them dangerous?" Alanna asked as her eyebrows shot up.

"No, I'm saying that having killed innocent people in the past makes someone dangerous," Sam replied.

Alanna tried to force her face into something that resembled neutrality, or at least curiosity. She may have looked a bit constipated instead. "I've killed before, and there's a very good chance I'll kill others in the future, does that make me dangerous as well?"

Sam paled a little, but tried to remain stoic. "That depends on whether or not you're killing people who don't deserve it. If you are, then yeah, you're dangerous too."

"I follow orders, and don't pretend that I can play at being a god." Faithful didn't snort, really. "Why couldn't you have just sent the information the administration instead? That's what I'm seriously having trouble comprehending here. And why Alec? I'm sure there are plenty of students, myself included, who have equally dodgy backgrounds."

"Maybe. But their dodgy backgrounds probably aren't going to get my brother killed," Sam replied. "And most of the people here are at least somewhat honest about their pasts. Alec wasn't."

"So as long as your brother is safe, you don't care?" Alanna asked and tried to figure out who had forgotten about logic in this conversation. "And plenty of people hide their past."

"Not everyone has a past that's as colorful and frightening as Alec's. And I do care," Sam said defensively. "I just care more when Dean is involved. He's family. Surely, you can understand that."

Alanna refrained from commenting about family. "Sam. Why couldn't you have gone to the administration first? Is it just me or would that have made more sense?"

"I thought that going to the administration would be easier if I had support from other students. Obviously, that didn't work out like it was supposed to," Sam said dryly.

Alanna resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Faithful didn't. "So how long do I need to wait until an e-mail about me, or Marty or anyone else with a spotty background, goes out?"

Sam sighed. "I'm not going to be sending out e-mails about anyone else. Alec is the only person I've been concerned with, and besides, I've learned that the people at this school don't really care about whether or not someone is dangerous, as long as they're good in bed."

Alanna blinked. "I wouldn't know. And people do care, or at least I do, but your presentation just pissed people off. And Alec has been here what, almost a year now?"

"Yeah, he's been here since the summer," Sam said. "So what?"

"Don't you think he would have 'shown his true colors' by now?" Alanna was resisting the urge to lean over and rap him on the skull. Barely.

"I'm more worried that there's going to come a time when someone else makes him show his true colors. Since we know how well he follows orders and all."

Alanna bit her lip. "Did you consider crossing that bridge when we get to it?"

"I considered preparing everyone for the inevitable bridge crossing that will occur," Sam replied.

"By...gathering what could have turned into a lynch mob?"

Sam shrugged. "That's one way to look at it, I guess."

Alanna sighed and leaned over to give Sam a smack on the head.

"Ow, hey!" Sam said, backing away from Alanna while rubbing his head. "That was totally unnecessary."

"You're a boy, and a sometimes slightly thick-headed one at that, of course it's neccessary."

Sam scowled. "Look, it doesn't matter what my intentions were, because none of them worked."
