Ethics [Monday, March 11, 5th period]

Anakin was leaning against the desk as the Ethics class walked in. A crumpled version the syllabus was in his hand.

"I hope you all stayed dry this weekend and kept your fish throwing to a minimum," he said. "The syllabus says that we're supposed to begin a discussion of the seven deadly sins today, but I want to get to know you a little bit first."

He was supposed to be a new instructor, after all.

"What manner of action do you find unforgivable?" he asked, his voice and manner completely unreadable. "Treason against your country or homeworld? Stealing from the defenseless? Slavery? Murder? Let's not worry about extenuating circumstances for the moment. If I were to tell you I killed children, most of you would recoil, correct? Where do you draw that line in your head? How far does someone have to go before you say 'that's wrong and there's no getting past it'?"

He avoided John's eyes as he paced around the room, finally pointing at a student. "Go ahead."

"My parents helped kill girls to give power to these ancient giants so that they could wipe out all of the humans on Earth," Molly said with a wry grin. "I saw the Giborrim-- the giants. My parents weren't lying about that."

"The Gibborim? They wanted to turn the Earth back into a paradise. To them, that meant no humans."

"The Gibborim offered my parents and five other couples power enough to control Los Angeles for 25 years if they brought them sacrifices once a year," Molly explained. "At the end of it, six of them would get to live on in the Gibborim's paradise. But, our parents, meaning mine and my five friends' parents, decided that they would give up their spots to us so that we could survive after humanity got wiped out."

Molly tilted her head as she recalled that day in the Gibborim's lair. "No. They were going to give up their chance at a spot in paradise because they loved us. Because they knew that none of them had a guarantee. By giving the six spots to us, they knew that we would live. As far as I know, none of them ever regretted agreeing to work for the Gibborim."

"Heh. No," Molly said with a mixture of pride and sadness. "I crushed the container that was holding the last girl's soul. The Gibborim got mad and tried to kill all of us. Our parents fought them long enough for us to escape."

Molly absently rubbed her fingers against her palms, almost as if she were trying to rub away the sensation of the canister breaking between her hands.

Molly nodded. By now, she had kind of forgotten that she was in the middle of class talking about all this.

"If they somehow came back to life and said they were sorry for what they did... If they asked me to forgive them... I can't say that I would say no."

Molly just nodded, a slightly sad look in her eyes.
