The classroom had a big plasma TV at the center of the board, Rose strode in, flashed the students a smile.

"Hope you lot didn't fall sick when Fandom literally went to the fishes." Rose said, entering happily. "I hope you did you're assignments, don't give 'em often you know so this rare occasion, I expect them to be good."

"Today, we are going to talk about --" She made a wavy motion to the TV screen, "The Telly! Won't bore you with the essentials and history and whatnot. Since it's been months since our first class I'd assume you knew what a television set is. We 21st century folk are creatures of our own creation and since the birth of this fancy thing we've been slaves to it from the first black and white TV serials to atrocious reality shows, mindnumbing soap operas and to the truly brilliant TV shows like the Oval Office, Wendy the Werewolf Stalker, Z-Cases and Mr. What and others I know you all like."

"So, I pose this question to you lot, given how long you've been here you must surely have seen your share of shows I'd like you to discuss your favorite shows and why you like them. Easy and fun discussion folks! Have fun!"

"Well, it's either that, or sing it at Caritas. Either one sounds good," John grinned. "They probably have Keith Richards in the zombie band, and haven't noticed. Hell, he probably wouldn't notice himself if his foot fell off and someone duct taped it back on."

"I'm quite fond of those zombies, and that's saying something for me, considerin' some zombies tried to kill me once."

"Yeah, I kinda missed Zombie Weekend," John said. "I don't remember you here for that. I didn't get out much, then, though, so... hell. There's still people here I haven't met."

[ back in about 45min-1hour. :D ]

"Zombie Weekend? This place certainly has its fair share, doesn't it? I'm afraid I wasn't here then, happened to me in another place and another time. But I've been told another version of myself went to school here."

"There was another you? As a student?" John is not thinking of the student body, and certainly not in a way like that.

"Younger," she offered, "Longer hair, I suppose, prone to running off at odd times."

She was still prone to doing that but best keep that to herself.

"I miss my first floor dorm. I can't exactly pop out the window now, on the fourth, and just... have a weekend off." John is still not picturing it. "So you wander frequently? Or, used to. When you're not carjacking alien ships."

"Wanderin' around was my life," She said and she's proud there's only a trace of nostalgia there, "I didn't use to carjack aliens but I did have a fantastic time bringing down tyrannical governments."

"I get to do that, someday." He doesn't look happy at the thought. "I'd rather be fighting aliens ~~naked~~ or karaoke."

"Plans and friends are always handy."

"Yeah! And with a place like this, you'll find both in abundance." He gives an impish grin. "Not always the best plans," he said, scratching his leg absently, "but they work out. Mostly."

"Sometimes," she said remembering the Doctor's plans and some of her own, "Maybe."

"You've had experience?" John asked.

"Had a friend who had to work on the fly with his plans and then we'd end up running for our lives. But he's power of the gab's also a weapon. Fella could talk a man to death, he could."

"Well, that's assuming that you can actually talk someone to death. Kinda hard to do when it's a walking pile of metal," John declared wryly.

"So the running for your lives thing? Fairly common there, too?"

"Pile of metal?" She asked curiousity piqued, thinking of the Cybermen, "The world I'm in had an incursion of something like that a few years back, almost decimated the population but the resistence fought back, most of the fighters retired but my best mates back home joined up with the government, where I work with to ensure it doesn't happen again."

"Fairly common he says," She said with a an amused snort, "It's our way of life."

"Sounds like what I have to do. Or, have done. Stupid time travel. So. Any advice on cyborgs? Besides, y'know, have 'em not exist in the first place?" John's face was a mixture of emotions.

Her mouth quirked up at the comment on time travel but answered his question, "Aside from stopping their existence? Firepower, lots and lots of firepower. EMF bombs also help. Incapacitate them then attack them fast and furious. But mostly, you have to develop your technology to rival their technology."

"That's the problem. Our technology becomes their technology. They co-opt it. Steal it from us and use it against us. Hell, they tried to kill me before I was born." JOhn's voice lost the humor and grew more serious as he spoke.

Her eyes narrowed, "It's a wonder a paradox hasn't occured yet. You've to keep your research secret then, it's hard but you really need to be a step further than they are and be sure, be very sure your computers are not networked, even better be sure the computers are not networked to you."

He turns away, his shoes suddenly interesting. "I've been doing that. And working at Sparky's has really given me some ideas on construction, which means ideas on destruction. If all we've got is sticks and stones, at least I know that my stones will kick their ass. Because I've done it already."

He looks at her. "There is a paradox. If I hadn't won in the future, and caused things in the past, I wouldn't be here in the now. Make sense?" He rubbed his eyes. "Man, I wish the still was working. I'll run out of vodka worrying about this."

"It does, in it's way, I'm a bit familiar with temporal mechanics," she a ssured, "And keep faith, if you've won in the future, it means you're already won, time is mutable though so you've to take care of that. But John, remember, you will win."

"Right. Doesn't mean that I don't feel like a bumbling idiot in the now, whatever and however I am in the future."

He gave her a once over. "So you've dealt wtih this before? Time travel stuff?"

"You can say that," This time the wistful tone was evident, "Best time of my life that."

"What'd you do?" JOhn's not sure if he wants storytime or just a summation, as this is the longest he's spoken with Ms Crashlander. But she's cool.
