Ethics [Monday, March 5, 5th period]

When the students entered the Ethics class, there was no sign of their normal instructor.

Instead a young man with a livid scar down his right eye wearing a dark cloak was leaning against the desk.

He looked at each of the students. "I am Anakin Skywalker. I'll be the Ethics instructor for the remainder of the semester. Darth Vader is gone."

He rustled through some papers. "I understand he had put you into pairs to learn to exploit each other." His eyes narrowed. "I don't work that way. Instead, please tell me what you learned about your partner--if anything--and how you would overcome individual weaknesses in order to become a more cohesive team."

He pointed at a student at random. "We will begin with you."

Silly Anakin actually thought that there might not be any questions about the change in teachers.

"Video game system," John answered. "One of the newer ones. Almost kinda not quite virtual reality."

"Ooooh," Anakin said despite himself. "Sounds like fun."

"It is," John said despite himself. "I'll have to show you one time." He couldn't stop it and, he found, didn't want to take it back either.

Hmm.

Anakin's eyes lit up.

"Really?"

"Yeah," he said, nodding. "Aeryn hates the thing so it'd be fun to drive her insane."

Anakin grinned. "What kinds of games do you have?"

"Just some sports ones right now," he said. "Baseball and bowling and ooh, boxing!"

"Aeryn doesn't like a game that involves beating people up?" Anakin smiled again. "I'm shocked."

He paused. "And I won't imitate livestock this time. I don't care what kind of cultural thing you pretend it is."

John laughed, having almost forgotten that mental image. "I think she'd rather beat real people up rather than video game people."

Anakin considered this. "I can see her point," he admitted, "but virtual people probably don't cry as easily."

"And I can beat up most virtual people," he said. "For once, I'm stronger!"

"Doubtful, Turkey Man," John said. "I mean...Professor."

"I'll remember that," he said and smiled.
