School Assembly, Friday afternoon, The Auditorium

For today's assembly, there were eleven chairs set up on one half of the stage, a microphone at center stage and a table with several books piled on it one the other half of the stage. When everyone in the audience was seated, a small, blue figure strode onto the stage. "Hello der," it said. "Me Cookie Monster. De following people please to come up on stage and be in spelling bee. Is impromptu."

He cleared his throat and pronounced the names carefully. "JC Broots, Dick Casablancas, Demyx, Zero Hopeless-Savage, Pippi Longstocking, Ami Mizuno, Stealtrike, Tannim, Valentine, Naomi Wildman, and Matilda Wormwood."

Once they were all up on stage, he went to sit behind the table and gave them their instructions. "Me say word, you say word, you spell word, you say word again. If you right, you get cookie and go to next round."

Ping into this thread if you passed the previous round. If you spell your word correctly, you get another cookie and move onto the next round. If you spell your word incorrectly, you just get a cookie.

Ami waited for Round Two.

Cookie Monster flipped open another book at random and did the blind stabbing method of choosing Ami's next word. He peered over his finger and then looked up at Ami. "You next words is... privilege."

Alright this one was easier.

"Privilege. P-R-I-V-I-L-E-G-E. Privilege"

Steerpike awaited his next word in the bizarre competition.

Cookie Monster checked the official list of words this time. He facepalmed for a moment and shook his head. "Me never be able pronounce dis," he muttered. He looked up at Steerpike finally. "Okay, you next word is..." he looked back at the list and read carefully, "tri- tri-anti-wonti-" Cookie stopped, took a deep breath and started again. "Triantiwontigongolope." He sighed with relief when he got the word out.

Dick waited for round two. He got lucky the first round he wasn't so sure he'd be able to pass this one.

"Okay," Cookie Monster said, consulting his official list again. "Dis time, word is not so fun as last one. It..." The dramatic pause was important. "Chinchilla."

What the hell was a chinchilla?

"Ok. Um...chinchilla. C-H-I-N-C-H-I-L-A?"

Pippi steps up again to spell a word.

The competition was well into the second round and Cookie Monster had been sitting there with a pile of cookies for that whole time. Maybe he shouldn't have had that one the last time Pippi was up because his eyes were getting a hunted look. He shook himself slightly and focused on Pippi.

He consulted his official list. "Next word to spell is..." his eyes wandered back to the pile of cookies, "COOKIE!"

"Cookie.... C is for Cookie." Pippi mused.

Valentine had a cookie. Valentine had survived 'snickerdoodle.' Valentine was ready for anything.

Cookie Monster consulted the official list again. "You next word is... palaver."

Valentine was an expert in palaver, mostly of the deceptive and beguiling sort.
"Palaver. P-A-L-A-V-E-R. Palaver."
It was his thing.

Broots was ready for his second word.

Cookie Monster consulted his list and then looked at Broots. "You nest word is... Raxacoricofallapatorious."

"Buh? Um... Raxacoricafalptrious. R-a-x-a-c-o-r-i-c-a-f-a-l-p-t-o-r-i-o-u-s. RaxacoricaIquit."

Zero waited nervously for her next word, figuring that if it was harder than the last one, she was screwed.

"De next word for you is... zeitgeist," Cookie Monster said, paying more attention to the pile of cookies than he was to Zero.

"Could you use that in a sentence, please?"

Naomi waited for her next word.

Cookie Monster pulled out his special list again. He carefully unfolded it and smoothed it out before looking up at Naomi. "You next word is..." He took his time in consulting the list before looking back at Naomi. "Sugar cookie. Me like dis word."

"Sugar Cookie. S-U-G-A-R space C-O-O-K-I-E. Sugar Cookie,"
