School Assembly, Friday afternoon, The Auditorium

For today's assembly, there were eleven chairs set up on one half of the stage, a microphone at center stage and a table with several books piled on it one the other half of the stage. When everyone in the audience was seated, a small, blue figure strode onto the stage. "Hello der," it said. "Me Cookie Monster. De following people please to come up on stage and be in spelling bee. Is impromptu."

He cleared his throat and pronounced the names carefully. "JC Broots, Dick Casablancas, Demyx, Zero Hopeless-Savage, Pippi Longstocking, Ami Mizuno, Stealtrike, Tannim, Valentine, Naomi Wildman, and Matilda Wormwood."

Once they were all up on stage, he went to sit behind the table and gave them their instructions. "Me say word, you say word, you spell word, you say word again. If you right, you get cookie and go to next round."

Participants, please ping into this thread. If you spell your word correctly, you get a cookie and move onto the next round. If you spell your word incorrectly, you just get a cookie.

Steerpike was on the stage, wondering just what kind of ridiculous craziness this school was getting him into, now.

Cookie Monster cleared his throat. "You first word is..." he got really close to the microphone, "Cookie."

Steerpike barely managed to refrain from rolling his eyes. "Cookie," he said clearly. "C-O-O-K-I-E. Cookie."

Ami got on stage and looked around a bit confused. At least she was confident in her spelling.

"You first word is..." again, Cookie Monster put in a dramatic pause. "Antediluvian." He sat back, proud of his pronunciation.

Ami, thankfully, has recently been reading a Biblical commentary, thanks to her encounter with a certain winged professor. So she had at least heard of the word before. And since it had to be before the flood, not against it, it had to be ante, not anti. Right.

"Um. Antediluvian. A-N-T-E-D-I-L-U-V-I-A-N. Antediluvian."

Naomi was hoping that this wouldn't turn out like the last time that she was on stage. She waited for her first word.

Dick was confused. He didn't remember signing up for any spelling bee. But since there was cookies involved he wasn't going to complain. He got on stage and waved at everyone in the audience.

Cookie checked his list of words and shook his head. From under the table he pulled another much folded list and spent some time straightening it out flat on the table. He looked from the list to Dick and back a few times as if deciding which word would fit him best.

Finally he cleared his throat. "You first word is..." dramatic pause again, "Molasses Cookies." He pronounced it very carefully.

Ah! A word with 'asses' in it. Dick might actually get this one.

"Uh. Okay. Molasses Cookies. M-O-L..." he paused for a second and wondered if the world 'mole' had a 'e' in it. He didn't think it did. "A-S-S-E-S, space, C-O-O-K-I-E-S. Molasses Cookies."

She really wanted a cookie.

Cookie Monster covered his eyes, opened one of the books in front of him at random and stabbed his finger down to pick Pippi's word. Uncovering his eyes, he peered at the book. He shuddered when he read the word. "Me sorry," he told Pippi. "You word is... broccoli." He shuddered again.

Lucky for Pippi, she'd been to the store the day before and saw it written on a little sign in the produce department when she was getting carrots for Old Man.

"You first word is..." Cookie Monster consulted the list. He blinked. He looked at Broots. He looked at the list again and turned it over once to make sure he was looking at the right side. He looked back at Broots. "Cow," he finally said with some bemusement.

Valentine rather liked cookies. Apparently, he rather liked cookies enough to make an arse of himself in front of the whole school, as, although he had his usual 'oh my bloody frogs' look on his face, he hadn't had a problem once he was told there were cookies involved.

Sneakily (or not so much), Cookie Monster pulled out his secret list again. After flattening it out, he consulted it briefly and then looked up at Valentine. "You first word is... snickerdoodle."

Cookie Monster used the random picking from books method again. He blinked at the word that his finger had landed on. He looked up at Zero. "You first word is..." He really liked the dramatic pause, "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."
