Library Rules of Conduct

All students are responsible for knowing and following these rules. Failure to follow these rules will result in disciplinary action.

RULES OF CONDUCT

I. Hours of Opening
1. The library hours of opening shall be determined by whenever the librarian opens the bloody doors to when he chases everyone out.
2. The Rules of the Library shall be displayed and made available to users of the library. If they do not follow the rules of the library, excessive force shall be utilized.
3. Nobody gets to commit murder in the library but the librarian. NO EXCEPTIONS.

II. Entry to the Library
1. Users may enter and remain only in the public areas of the Library. Entrance to the Special Collections is at the discretion of the librarian.
2. Once a person enters the Library, he or she is taken to have accepted the Rules and to have agreed to abide by them. If they break the rules, they get what's coming to them.
3. Children, familiars, alternate personalities and other non-responsible entities should be under the supervision of an adult who shall be responsible for their conduct in the Library.
4. NO WEAPONS IN THE LIBRARY. EVER. THE BLOODY SWORD IS MINE, I'M THE LIBRARIAN, SO I GET TO HAVE IT. NOBODY ELSE.

III. General Conduct within the Library
1. Users shall at all times conduct themselves in a quiet and orderly manner so as not to disturb other library users.
2. Any person not behaving appropriately within the library may be requested to produce relevant identification by a library staff member. He or she may be escorted out of the library with a boot to the ass.
3. Mobile telephones shall not be used in the Library. Again, MOBILE TELEPHONE SHALL NOT BE USED IN THE LIBRARY.
4. Eating, drinking and smoking is not permitted within the library building.
5. Any items brought into the library shall remain the responsibility of the owner. (I cannot stress this one enough. I don't care if your laptop did THAT without your permission or knowledge. CLEAN IT UP.)
6. Seating in the main study or reading areas may not be reserved.
7. Articles left unattended for long periods in the library may be removed by the Library staff and treated as lost property. How the hell else am I going to supplement this pittance of a salary?
8. A person should not use any parts of the library building for any kind of group meeting or discussion without the permission of the librarian.

IV. Use of the Library
1. Library materials shall not be marked, damaged or deliberately misplaced. I don't care if it offends your sensibilities or claims that your species doesn't exist. You mark it, I mark you.
2. The privacy of patron and loan records shall be maintained. By me. Did we mention my pittance of a salary?
3. Conditions applying to the availability and loan of Library material should be strictly adhered to.
4. Library materials shall not be removed from the library building unless a loan transaction has been properly carried out.
5. Items on the open access shelves of the library are for loan. Special Collections such as the Rare Books and the Whippit Collection are not for loan. Reference materials and periodicals are to be used in the Library only.
6. Loan periods shall be determined by the librarian, and may be changed on a whim. Late fees increase exponentially.
7. The Librarian, in consultation with Faculty staff, may modify loan conditions temporarily to cater for items on high demand.
8. Material on loan may be recalled by the library staff at any time.
9. Users leaving the library may be required to have their bags and other items presented to Library staff for inspection.

V. Library Borrower Card and Responsibilities
1. Students and staff of Fandom High are entitled to be issued with a borrower card. This card shall be presented to the Issue Desk staff to borrow library materials. However, first you have to prove yourself proficient in English or the language of your birth. What's the point of a library for someone who can't read?
2. A user's borrower card shall not be used by persons other than the registered card holder.
3. Library members shall report the loss of their card immediately to the librarian. Borrowing privileges may be withheld until a new card is issued.
4. A borrower shall remain responsible for material issued against his/her library card until the material is returned to the library and the loan is discharged by the library staff.
5. Borrowing privileges may be suspended if a borrower has overdue items, outstanding library fines, or is in some other way in breach of these Rules.
6. Fines for the late return of items shall be imposed. Fines may be waived only by the librarian (can we say, not bloody likely?)
7. Failure to return a loan shall incur a maximum fine plus a replacement charge for the item loaned.
8. Outstanding library fines or debts may prevent the issue of final grades for the session or re-enrolment in a subsequent session.

VI. Misconduct or Breach of these Rules
1. Where a person is in breach of these Rules, the Librarian may suspend that person for a period not exceeding two weeks from attendance at, or from the use of all or any of the facilities of the library.
2. Where the Librarian exercises his or her authority under these Rules to suspend or restrict a persons access to the Library, the matter shall be reported in writing to Principal Connor.
3. Where the Librarian believes that a breach of these Rules has occurred, he or she may recommend to the Principal that the matter be dealt with -- sternly.
4. A person aggrieved by a decision of the Librarian under these Rules, may appeal to Principal Connor. You really think she's going to be NICER than me?

There are now two boxes on a table just inside the library doors. One box says, "Student Library Card Applications - Take One". The other box says, "Completed Student Library Card Applications".

If you need an application, pick one up there. If you need to drop off an application, drop it off there. If you need something other than a student library card application, or have a question, please get in line.

I need a drink.

Greetings, sir. I would like to apply for a library card, as I suspect I will need to spend quite a bit of time here. Is there an application I need to fill out?

Hey. Could I have a form for a library card, please?

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Rogue stands in line, rather impatiently. Everyone seems to have come in at once for a library card. Finally, it's her turn. "I'd like to apply for a library card. Do you need our full names, or will an alias do? Most people don't know my real name, so..." She trails off, after taking a long look at the sword. "Um, may I have a form, please sir?"

*is clearly nervous*

Um...hi. D'you think I could apply for a library card? I mean...I tend to spend a lot of time in libraries - probably why I'm so pale, actually...yeah. Anyway, when it's convenient for you, sir.

[identity profile] alchemic-bean.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*scratches head and eyes the rules* Um, kay. I don't know what the hell a library card is, we used our watches as proof of identification. So I guess I need one of these things.

I take it Special Collections is that locked room in the back that somehow resisted my transmuting the locks. How much do I have to bribe you What do I have to do to get into there?

One library card for Mr. Duo Maxwell, if you don't mind...

How many books can we take out at once? What I mean to ask is, how many books from the Mecha section can I take out at once?

I'll probably be needing a card.

Assuming there are books in braille or books on tape, otherwise I'll have to have [livejournal.com profile] jayne_serenity read them to me... if he can.

Janet pulls the completed form out of Professor Methos' hand, looks it over, and frowns briefly, annoyed she can't find anything wrong with it. "Lovely," she says, pulling out her pen to initial it. Something catches her eye, and she inspects the form more closely.

"You didn't put your full name down."

That certainly is a bright little bit of steel, pr'fesser.

I suppose I'd better get meself a card as well, since I'd hate to lose a limb to that everso sharp blade for takin' things wi'out permission. Not that I'd *ever* do something so...nefarious. *gives his best attempt at an innocent smile*

[identity profile] redginny.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*Finally gets to the front of the line.*

"I'd like an application, please." Pauses. Looks around. "There's quite a crowd in here, but it's still nice and quiet."

Eyes the line of bookshelves disappearing into the distance.

"Are books on magic and spells all in special collections, or just the Dark Arts ones? I've still got some projects to work on for my old school and for my personal protection."

Smiles shyly.

"Wow. Big sword."
