Vader stomped into the classroom, slamming the door so hard behind him that it cracked across the middle.

"Today I will give you your midterm assignment," he snapped, cloak swirling around him as he paced. Well, half of a raggedy cloak. If it looked like it had been cut up by a child...yeah.

"The master-apprentice system of education has long been traditional in my galaxy. The Jedi used it--" his tone was laced with scorn as his helmet swiveled, looking at various students, "and my own Sith still use it. We will be following in the Sith tradition."

He pulled a piece of paper from his desk. "I have paired you up into master and apprentice teams. Throughout the coming weeks, you will work together. Masters, your goal is to train your apprentices to a level of usefulness in a skill of your choice. Apprentices, your goal is to become better than your master at that skill and ultimately become the master. You must provide a united front to the rest of the world while seeking to undermine each other at every turn. Next class--which is after the midterm break, how fortunate for you--you will report to me about the weaknesses and strengths of your partner and how you would hypothetically use them to gain the upper hand in your relationship."

And if Vader sounded a bit bitter about this particular arrangement, well, he was.

"I have heard about the master-slave exercise in the Ethics classes last year," he growled, voice heavy with menace. "This is a completely different concept and anyone who tries to turn this into non-hypothetical exploitation will be answering to me personally. You will be wishing for detention when I am finished with you." He made sure to look at every student as he said that. There would be no misinterpretation of his intentions in this.

He turned his attention to the paper in his gloved right hand. "Listen for your names. I will only be saying them once."

"The Fire Nation," Zuko said, expecting Marco to have no clue what he meant or jump to conclusions thanks to a certain TA in the class.

Marco blinked. "Okay, so ... computer skills then?"

"Why would I need to use it?" Zuko questioned, horrified at the amount of text that seemed to go come with the thing.

"...Because it's fun? And informative?" Marco blinked. A lot.

"If you say so," Zuko said, definitely not buying it.

"All right! We have a task." Marco ran through his head of things he'd need. "Do you have a computer?"

Zuko crossed his arms. "You're not very bright, are you?"

"You're not very polite, are you?"

"Respect has to be earned," Zuko replied.

"Being polite has nothing to do with respect." Marco pointed out.

"Yes, it does," Zuko argued.

"Um...no. It's called a common cutesy for a reason."

"I'm not common," Zuko replied.

"Oh I'm sorry royal majesty, did I offend?" Marco rolled his eyes.

"Not that I care," Zuko said, sarcasm completely lost on him.

"Of course not." Marco deadpanned.

"Have you made your mind up yet?" Zuko asked.

"Yeah, lesson one? Insulting the person in charge is a big no-no. Actually, just insulting people is bad."

Zuko sneered. "I know perfectly well how to deal with people in charge." Mostly because his uncle kept saving his ass, but it wasn't like Zuko noticed that.

"Well, we've established that." Marco + sarcasm = OTP. "Now what about people who aren't in charge?"

"They obey my orders," Zuko said simply.

Marco gave Zuko a very dirty look. "And what happens when they revolt?"

"They won't," Zuko said, casually creating a flame in his hands.

Marco equally casually moved away from the flame. "Handy. So you against an army...?"

"I'll manage," Zuko said shortly.
