Journalism Class - Friday September 23

Spider is sprawled atop his desk, cat draped over his feet, staring up at a holo feed that is playing on the celing. He has a large mug of something that is steaming gently beside him and a pack of cigarettes with a lighter atop it by his elbow. The rest of the newsfeeds are also on, but muted.

The one above him seems to be going on at some length about prisoner riots.

On a large board propped up in front of the class is a sign that reads:

Attention students:

Today is gossip day. I want you to spend the class period discussing the strangest and most vicious rumors you've heard regarding the school, your schoolmates, the townies and your professors. Go nuts. At the end of class, I will go back and review and whoever came up with the best (ie most fascinating, funny or repeatable) rumor will win a prize.

Also? Homework assignments for next week, coming to a notice board near you.

Chloe gets up and goes to sit down next to Veronica. "So, I heard from the roommate of the girlfriend of one of our hallmates that the school chef? Isn't really Swedish." She gives a mock gasp, then nudges Veronica, hoping to get a laugh out of her.

Veronica laughs at Chloe's silly gossip.

"Oh man, I have so much to catch you up on," she says with a whisper.

"Do you remember me telling you about my best friend that was murdered?"

Chloe nods. "Of course, yeah."

Veronica looks around to make sure no one is paying attention to her and Chloe's discussion.

She drops her voice even lower.

"She's here. As a student. And she's not the only formerly dead person enrolled."

Chloe just blinks for a second. "She's here?" she says, just barely managing to keep her voice at a low level. "Oh my god. Is she...I mean, is she okay?"

Veronica ponders how best to answer that question.

"Well, she's still dead... but yeah... she's the same old Lilly. She's the one who's organizing homecoming, actually. I kind of freaked when I first ran into her. We actually have a class together. But we talked and everything is good now."

"That's Lilly? Wow." Chloe smiles, putting an arm around Veronica comfortingly. "Is that what was going on during that whole John/Cam prank thing? I'm sorry you got freaked out, but I'm definitely glad everything's good now." She pauses for a second. "So wait, there are other dead people here too?"

Veronica smiles.

"Yeah, I saw her the day before that all went down. And I... um... " she glances around the room once more. "I went to see Logan," she says, her words barely discernible.

She shakes her head, remembering the conversation.

"And, well, yeah, but I shouldn't say any more than that. Besides, we've got werewolves and other supernatural beings here, why not dead people?"

Chloe frowns a little at the mention of Logan. "He didn't do anything to mess with you, did he? And I guess you have a point. With everything else weird around here, dead people should be one of the least of our worries."

Veronica's expression turns slightly wistful.

"No, he was... nice. But... well... we ended up fighting. I don't think Lilly has seen him yet."

She stands up.

"Hey, want to get out of here and grab some coffee?"

Chloe nods. "I could definitely go for some coffee."
