Journalism Class - Friday September 23

Spider is sprawled atop his desk, cat draped over his feet, staring up at a holo feed that is playing on the celing. He has a large mug of something that is steaming gently beside him and a pack of cigarettes with a lighter atop it by his elbow. The rest of the newsfeeds are also on, but muted.

The one above him seems to be going on at some length about prisoner riots.

On a large board propped up in front of the class is a sign that reads:

Attention students:

Today is gossip day. I want you to spend the class period discussing the strangest and most vicious rumors you've heard regarding the school, your schoolmates, the townies and your professors. Go nuts. At the end of class, I will go back and review and whoever came up with the best (ie most fascinating, funny or repeatable) rumor will win a prize.

Also? Homework assignments for next week, coming to a notice board near you.

((so definately not in this class, but boy i wish i was...gossiping as an assignment 0.o ))

Phoebe came back in and sat at her usual seat, looking around to see who else was showing up to class. She was still wearing the dark sunglasses and she had another highly caffeinated beverage with her.

Spider made a beckoning gesture to her without looking away from the feed on the ceiling.

Duce contemplates just which of the rumours she's recently heard would be appropriate, and finally says, "We heard a teacher recently had an abortion because she was pregnant by an underage student and didn't want to get caught." She pauses, "We've also heard Professor Jackson is gay, but that's not so much rumour as attention to detail."

Phoebe slid off the desktop and went over to see what was up.

Jake looked up from his coffee. "Which one's that? That Jackson guy, I mean?"

"Assistant... I have a clever plan." Spider was still watching the newsfeed. "I think it's time to start planning a field trip. I want you to send the interns to the library at some point and see what you can dig up for treasure maps. They must have some in there - they have everything else."

Duce peered at the tussle-headed boy, trying to place where she'd seen him before. "You're.. Jake, right? Professor Jackson teaches archaeology and anthropology.. and we think he teaches dead languages or something too."

Her willpower a known marvel, she does not question why Jake was showing interest in a homosexual teacher. She most definitely doesn't offer to introduce them.

Phoebe was intrigued by this idea and started thinking up when would be a good time to send Jake and Krycek on this reconnaissance mission.

"Do you think they'll need to get into the special collections section?"

"So... Not the guy with two heads, then?" Jake ignored Snake-hair's slight smirk. She lived in the haunted house. She was weird. "Or the dude with the sidekick try-outs?"

Duce shakes her head, causing the snakes to writhe into a new position where they could see who she was speaking to. Or smell him. Whichever.

"Don't think so? Unless either of them is Prof. Jackson's.. ah.. hm.. can't say 'bitch' since we don't know which one's the top.. hm... Partner?"

She speculates aloud, "We'd imagine two heads would be a bonus.."

Rory sits down, looking highly uncomfortable, and trying to overhear the conversations around her.

Jake tilted his head as he pondered on that. "Would be interesting, for sure."

Recognizing Rory as she takes a seat, Krycek looks over to her, smiling a little in greeting. "So d'you have any good gossip?"

Her smirk broadened, "It would, indeed. We heard he had to pay..or bribe, the rumours differ on that point.. a female student to get pictures of him kissing another female student, so noone would suspect."

Jake looked blank. This conversation might require more coffee than he had. "So no one would suspect what?"

Rory ponders for a second. "No, not really. As prissy as it might sound, I kind of hate gossip, because I've been on the bad end of it. But since it's an assignment...do you have anything?"

Duce tilted her head at the obviously half-awake Jake. Her hand delved into the depths of the knapsack of doom, bringing forth a small can of ~~liquid life~~ something suspected to be coffee. There was a cartoon coffee bean prancing across the front and some sort of Asian hieroglyphs all over it.

An eyebrow raised over her glasses in inquiry, she waggled the can in offering before answering.

"So noone would suspect he's homosexual. Classic closet coverstory."

Xander sits down, pulls a Twinkie out of his pocket and lays it on the desk in front of him, then scratches his head. "The only true gossip I know is about people who came from my other school, and most of it would either get my ass kicked, or not surprise anybody." He started unwrapping the Twinkie. "I mean -- '

_gottahavefaith Good In Bed, News At 11' ? Not seeing the shock and awe."

Ohh, coffee smell! Jake grabbed the can happily. Snake-hair or no, at least it wasn't the professor's coffee. After taking a gulp, his eyebrows raised as well. "Weird cover story," he decided. "And anyway, who'd care? I mean, around here the only thing that might raise eyebrows would be child porn, I'm thinking." He had more coffee. "And maybe lifestock, but I'm not at all sure of that."

Definitely not the professor's coffee. The can was still slightly warm, the coffee average but stronger than usual, as though depthcharged with a shot of espresso.

Duce shrugged a shoulder genially, "It's the usual cover story, strange as it sounds. 'I can't be gay! I have a girlfriend!'" She snorts at the livestock comment, "Around here, there isn't much difference between the students and most forms of livestock."

To clarify her point, she makes a sheep noise.

Angela turns around in her seat to smile at Xander. "Yeah, all the gossip I've heard is true stuff about people I know, too. Which is ... kind of not the point of gossip, unless I'm, like, not understanding the concept."

Duce pantomimes shock and awe for Xander's amusement. She then shoots him a grin, "The question remains, is she actually good in bed, or is it all hype to make the people she sexes up sound like studmuffins? Really, do guys ever bash on the horizontal prowess of the women they're sexing, if they hope to ever have said experience again?"

Jake snorted coffee out his nose. "Please don't do that again," he said, when he could speak again.

Duce grinned at Jake, "Well, at least it woke you up."
