Journalism Class - Friday September 23

Spider is sprawled atop his desk, cat draped over his feet, staring up at a holo feed that is playing on the celing. He has a large mug of something that is steaming gently beside him and a pack of cigarettes with a lighter atop it by his elbow. The rest of the newsfeeds are also on, but muted.

The one above him seems to be going on at some length about prisoner riots.

On a large board propped up in front of the class is a sign that reads:

Attention students:

Today is gossip day. I want you to spend the class period discussing the strangest and most vicious rumors you've heard regarding the school, your schoolmates, the townies and your professors. Go nuts. At the end of class, I will go back and review and whoever came up with the best (ie most fascinating, funny or repeatable) rumor will win a prize.

Also? Homework assignments for next week, coming to a notice board near you.

With a chuckle, Beka points to Crichton. "That one did a lovely little doodle. No pictures, but Cameron has a date with her this evening. That ought to be fun. Sure hope someone's taking pictures!"

"Wait.. so the flashing resulted in one of the ~~AngstyMaleVirgins~~ boys getting a date?" Duce tries very, very hard not to laugh. "That's one way to get their membership numbers down.."

Beka bites the inside of her lip. "Yeah. Amusing, no? Funnier is that she calls him YoYo." Then she gives in smirks, goodnaturedly.

Duce busts out laughing, "Because he's wrapped around her little finger already, or because he's up and down that frequent?"

It's obvious that she's not indicating the direction of his moodswing.

At this Beka gets a pained expression. "There's some story about her and a yoyo."

She shrugs and sighs.

"I should explain. Cam's my ex. And Vala's a very good friend. It's one thing for me to tell you what everyone knows because it's funny. It's another to take personal shots, no matter how much the jest. I know that's not cool, but I made a mistake before, not watching the backs of the people I care about. Not. Gonna. Do it. Again. Sorry."

Duce shakes her head, still smiling. "'sall good. We just couldn't place the reference. You must admit, it is a rather strange thing to call someone you're going on a date with."

"You're right, though. It is funny."

She nods, relieved. "It is funny. But I guess both Cam and Crichton say 'yo' a lot. So... maybe together they're YoYo." Then she laughs.

Duce grins. "Great, now we have a mental image of them in hip-hop outfits with their boxers showing. Thanks heaps."

((mutter.. stupid cookie failure. 'smee))

"Heard something else interesting." ~~Not because I had anything to do with it.~~

"Oh?" Having not had the opportunity to socialize all that much, Duce is extremely curious, as if that would vicariously let her get to know them.

"I heard Jack O'Neill looked pretty happy last night." Beka winks, to let Duce know there's more to this than she's telling.

One corner of her mouth quirks in a grin as she shakes her head. There's the impression that she rolled her eyes, but of course, they're hidden by the sunglasses. "We heard, but thought that was in reference to him getting to pull a bullet out of some kid's butt. Was there another reason?"

"Perhaps he met someone he found...interesting." Her eyes flash, amused that word has already started to spread. Good. Very good. "If it's true, I do hope Shep's not too put out." A wicked grin spreads over her face.

Duce smirks and shakes her head again. She nearly giggles, "You know you've seen wayyyy too much Brendan Fraser'y 'George of the Jungle' goodness when: you hear the name 'Shep' and immediately think of a giant, stick-fetching elephant. Thanks again, for the lovely mental image."

Sticking out her tongue, she makes a Mr. Yuck face.

Beka looks totally bemused. "Brendan Fraser? George of the Jungle? References are lost. I'm from 3500 years in this world's future. But, now, thanks to you, I'm going to be see some extinct tusked creature fetching sticks all day, along with Cam and Crichton dancing in their boxers." The yuck face is totally shared.

"Hey. How come you don't hang around with us?"

Duce smiles wryly, "We're originally from almost that far in the other direction of history. Reincarnation's a bitch. You should see that movie, it's pretty funny. Cute guy in a loincloth doing stupid-human tricks."

Duce says blithely, "Hadn't been invited to? Haven't really seen you guys outside the clubhouse much lately."

Beka can't help laughing at that. "Tsk. Now I'll be carrying that around all day!"

*interrupts quietly*

I didn't get a date because I'm attached. But I'm much better looking then YoYo so if I wasn't attached, I'd have gotten a date.

Yeah. Or something like that.

And we didn't flash anyone.

Duce peers at the boy, "So.. you're not YoYo? You really do look like him. If you're attached, why are you a member of.."

She stops there, deciding she really does not want the answer.

John squrims a bit under her gaze. "Nope, not YoYo. YoYo is Cameron Mitchell. I'm John. We just happen to look really similar.

Freakier? The girl who he's going out on a date with? Looks exactly like my girlfriend. Weird, huh?"

"As for the other thing...well, if I'm attached and a member, I'm sure you can figure it out."

"That's really, really creepy."

Duce realizes that statement could apply to either part of what John just said, and clarifies, "The look-alike part. Were you all seperated at birth, or is there some disturbing cloning thing going on?" She perks up, "We hope it's the cloning thing. Clones are cool!"

Giving John a profound look of sympathy, she answers the second part, "Yeah.. did the math. You must really love her. With all the booty being bumped around this school, to stay not only faithful but celibate? Yeah. Mad props to you, yo."

"Hey, yo. I hadn't thought of that about Cam and Vala. Weird. Is he still babbling about that NASA thing with her?"
