Crossposted because it's that important.

ENROLLMENT IS CLOSED

If you are not in the list that I posted a few days ago, have not been approved for posting at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh directly by [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor you DO NOT belong here and will be forcibly removed. Enrollment is closed at this time and unless you are an approved player, you may not post in the various [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh communities or in the individual player journals. Period. Full stop.

There have been several instances of people who do not belong to this game reported to me. Unless and until enrollment is opened again and your character is personally approved by [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor, you may not post here. Period. In light of attracting people who have not read the rules and are showing up with duplicates of existing characters, something which is also strictly against the rules, I am also closing [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies to membership until [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor gets back.

Only [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor can approve new students.

[livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s is the right hand of God here, people, and what he says goes.

No one, and I mean NO ONE else is authorized to do anything when it comes to student/teacher/townie permissions.

This may eventually change but, as of right now, it's just the two of us... and I know damn well she hasn't approved anyone except our new webmaster in quite some time.

If this persists, everyone here should have these people friended and we will allow 'friends only' posts until the intruders desist.

Please be polite, but inform non-members that they cannot play here without first waiting for open enrollment and then being approved directly by [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor.

Thank you.

I have no fricking idea who's currently on my friendslist, so, delete and readd, here I come.

I see I'm going to have to marry Krycek.

*coughs*

Some people use their character jurnals for more than one RP.

[identity profile] leeadama.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree that random hit&run conversations by outside-this-rpg players should keep out of the central comms for this rpg, but they should be limited out of the individual player journals? This is happening, at least in the BSG/SG1 player's journals because the hit&run players are all actually voiced by people who are fandomhigh players in the first place. It's not a systemic anomaly, it's just out-of-character/in-character goofing off if you follow me.

Regardless, I don't think that a handful of comments in an individual player's journal from non-fandomhigh people RUINS THE EXPERIENCE LIEK WHOA, omg.

*shrugs*

[identity profile] littleluck.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Thank you. This is... beyond silly. I'm already getting sort of ticked that I seem to have been put on a mental 'blacklist' as far as making dissenting comments goes, I'd hate to have to start worrying about what I put in Dom's private journal too. I joined this RP for fun, not to get wrapped up in a pseudo-police state. Despite the format of the RP, we are not really High School students, and treating us like that out of character is starting to verge on intolerablelerable.

I love the concept of this game, I love some of the players, and for the most part, I love the admins, but I'm really starting to hate the lack of creative freedom allowed.

I'm honestly not surprised at the number of people who have left.

[identity profile] leeadama.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
What really needs to happen and somehow the admins may need to foster this better is for everyone who is playing to meet and relate and communicate with each other. I know the SciFi Channel Characters + Archie group is considered pretty clique-y, which is a great reason why Lee asked Veronica to the Homecoming, etc. ------ perhaps we need more social events? Mixers? Have a fandomhigh buddy from a completely different fandom that you have to do...something with?

Also, many characters are here but don't play as often as other characters, which is an issue, whereas the SFChannel peeps are very involved in this RPG. Very involved. OMG involved. *sobs tears of great emo, omg*

We're a clique? Man, I just can't keep up with everything that's going on so I only hang out with a smallish group. Because, wow, you're right about the SFC people being OMG so insanely active.

I'm gonna go freakin' insane this weekend. So. Nuts.

But next week is going to be good for Janet. She's got plans, sort of, to get together with other characters. Well, loose plans. Sort of like, "If I post this, I've arranged that a couple of people will play. If they're available."

Way OOC

My apologies. I will double check my logins. I have, at least once, posted using my character voice but my RL login. However, I usually figure this out about 2 seconds later and always delete the comment, remaking it as the character.

[identity profile] leeadama.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously what happened was that we all knew each other's characters or shared a love of robots and spaceships and then the storylines appeared and then we can't just, you know, IGNORE each other as we're all good friends. This doesn't mean we can't branch out, it just means that the "clique" has A LOT TO DO with the fact that we're the very active players. Incidently, we're all in the same genre and therefore cling together. I'm having a helluva time trying to figure what common grounds Lee and Veronica have but IT WILL WORK, I tell you. IT WILL WORK.

Plus, RC is so totally crushing on Janet. *flails*

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*thoughts cliques were very in character for high school*

Huh, it's kinda hard to respond to everyone. I suppose SFC do have a lot of common ground. *clings to Archie OMG*

You're gonna cheat on me?

[personal profile] janet_fraiser 2005-09-23 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, and we all said, "OMG, there are freakin' magic users and mutants and all that here, and all we have is our advanced tech!" And we clung together out of sheer self-preservation because how the heck else were we supposed to defend ourselves from the magic and the mutants without our Really Big Guns (when we could have them) and our tech. And it sort of evolved from there.

Oh, Lee can be totally agog at the good relationship that Veronica has with her dad. Because, wow, so not what he's got!

Really? Because I've got a potential plotline coming for Janet next week wherein she might have fun with RC.

OMG, too hard to respond to all! I love reading entries, but I can't respond to everything!

[identity profile] littleluck.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Problem is? I've seen ONE player complain. One. And we're being given no opportunity to discuss it. Does this mean I can ask for everyone to please stop with the overwhelming angst, and they'll be told to? I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.

And I've made positive comments the admins agreed with. Hell, I'll go find the posts if you want. The problem is I've also made several that seem to have been wholey ignored. Admittedly, the threads get full and complicated, and I can't expect anyone to read and reply to everything, but I'd like to know what I have to say has a chance of being considered. I'm not getting that feeling anymore. I don't have personal hostility towards anyone here, honest to god, I just feel like there are more and more rules and less and less actually *happening.*

And I know I'm not the only one. Everyone else has just been doing their grumbling on personal journals. I'm not asking for special consideration, or trying to control other peoples' playing, I just want to be able to discuss some of this stuff before it gets thrown at us as if out of nowhere. I really don't think that's too much to ask.

I like knowing where I stand. At this point? I am occasionally honestly afraid to reply in the way I feel my character would, because every time I turn around, there's a new restriction. I've fallen into a bad habit of only replying to my classes because at least there I know the rules and repercussions.

Like I said, I want to have fun here. I don't want to have to bail on it after only two weeks, but when I'm spending more time worrying about the rules than I do actually getting to play, that gets hard.

MFCD really needs to set up a meeting so all the virginal male characters can bond over Titanic.

Aw, poor John. *pats you* But I won't spy on dates without you. It wouldn't be any fun!

Oh, frell. If Janet ever goes on a date with Daniel. *headdesk* Half the school's going to be trailing after them!

OMG. It's the male equivalent of the slumber party thread. You must do this!

I will not ask Replicarter to make surveillance devices.

I will not ask Replicarter to make surveillance devices.

I will not ask Replicarter to make surveillance devices.

Well, I probably won't ask her to.

Just doing meta-nattering here, not really agreeing or disagreeing with your comment specifically...

To a certain extent I think there's always going to be cliques of some kind, esp given a pseudo-high school environment. I mean Chloe and Angelus aren't exactly going to be hanging out together without some kind of good reason.

Unfortunately the flip side of that is that cliques are a double edged sword: great fun for the people in them, not so much for those on the outside who can't figure out how to get in.

The earlier made suggestion of mixers might be an idea. Or maybe just more external events that all of the characters can react to in their own way. I know for me it can be frustrating to try to get something going but be limited by how many characters my boy can actually interact with. And if one of those players gets caught up IRL or what have you, there goes the six degrees of FH that could've gotten Angelus doing something with somebody new.

External events, OTOH, give everybody even more common ground, so that might help act as an ice breaker of sorts.

As I say, I'm just riffing here.

I think it's more about actual new character LJs that have shown up and posted interactive comments, without being on the player list. Everybody screws up and comments with their RL journal sooner or later. Or comments on RL friendslist with FH character, to much confusion and amusement from non-rp-ing friends...

[identity profile] names-ash.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay... I'm not sure what sort of complaints have been lodged here, but here's my take on the whole "other characters in personal journals" issue.

It really doesn't hurt, as long as these folks aren't walking into a class room, or the clinic, or the town.

It's no different then having your character interact with an NPC you just made up in a post, just to have some sort of interaction.

Seriously, as these characters shouldn't be affecting the other players in the least, I don't see what sort of real complaints can be lodged. These sort of interactions are not affecting their characters, so unless people are complaining about the "clique" nature that seems to be attributed to this, I'm quite unsure.

I know this community is based on multi-fandom interaction, and I have made an effort to interact with lots of different people. I have never ignored a post from anyone.

But this is a high school RP, and high schools inevitably form cliques. It's sort of part of the nature of the beast.

I understand that you're trying your best to appease people, but it is efforts like these that seem more out to punish than to encourage.

If someone ever gets someone outside the community posting in their journal and they'd prefer for it not to happen, they can always delete the comment and just go on as if it never happened.

What about that "adult" Starbuck that popped up? As far as I could tell she was from another game. Admittedly, I haven't been as active with the other BSG players as I've wanted, but no one asked me what I thought about it (if it was an existing character goofing around). If I ran into her in play I would be all "WTF?" It has the potential for getting out of hand, and I can see the need for approval and official characters. If there's no officially stated approval process, we'll see duplicates popping up all over the place, confusing the rest of the players.

Also, many characters are here but don't play as often as other characters, which is an issue, whereas the SFChannel peeps are very involved in this RPG.

This is definitely an issue -- I'm familiar with all these characters, and I can pretty much follow along with everything, but I don't have time to keep up with everything and the outside-character stuff really confused the hell out of me yesterday. I can only imagine how it must be to those who have no idea about the BSG 'verse, etc.

Plus I worry that we're getting, well, a little too inside-joke/plot oriented. The SciFi characters are wrapped up in their own plotlines to the point that any characters who are outside those fandoms (and the muns who may not be familiar with them) are probably pretty lost, and it may be driving them away. To be perfectly honest, that's what's taking the fun out of it for me; I joined because of the fandom diversity, and the opportunity to interact with characters from totally different 'verses and see what kind of cracked-out culture clash there could be.

(To those of you behind the Skiffy characters: it's not that I don't love you, because I totally do, but I kind of want to branch out a little with Anders, and with Archie as well. I love that Archie is hanging out with these guys because he's so out of place, culturally and chronologically, but I haven't been playing that up as much as I wanted to.)

As for opportunities for people to meet up and communicate -- well, there's study hall, classes, and the common rooms, not to mention the joints in town, but I don't think we've been taking advantage of those as much as we could have.

[identity profile] shane-mcc.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here with the not agreeing/disagreeing - just kinda commenting. *waves to Angelus while she's at it, grinning*

As for the commenting in communities where you're not 'cleared'? I've really been trying to make sure to kinda police my own self and limit my posting to the ooc, icon and townie communities (since I'm only based in the town, at the moment - I'd like to attend FH too, but if that makes more work for anybody, just let me know, hmm?). When I'm in town and available, though, I try to interact with as many people as possible... and it's not a chore, either, not at all - Shane's a people person, she loves meeting new people especially pretty girls *cough*. :D I mean, so far, she's met a vampire, a guy from the 14th century, a time-traveler dude, a talking dog-wolf-cat thingy, a really sexy mutant chick, a slayer chick, a charmed chick (geesh, seeing a pattern here? hehe)... and she's loved every minute of it.

But yeah, that's a thought - instead of hanging out at the high school or in the dorms all the time, an idea might possibly be to go and hang out at the pub or at Deb's shop or go gamble away your allowance for the week at Geoff's place, occasionally. Really - the townies are all quite friendly folks :)
