Crossposted because it's that important.

ENROLLMENT IS CLOSED

If you are not in the list that I posted a few days ago, have not been approved for posting at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh directly by [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor you DO NOT belong here and will be forcibly removed. Enrollment is closed at this time and unless you are an approved player, you may not post in the various [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh communities or in the individual player journals. Period. Full stop.

There have been several instances of people who do not belong to this game reported to me. Unless and until enrollment is opened again and your character is personally approved by [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor, you may not post here. Period. In light of attracting people who have not read the rules and are showing up with duplicates of existing characters, something which is also strictly against the rules, I am also closing [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies to membership until [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor gets back.

Only [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor can approve new students.

[livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s is the right hand of God here, people, and what he says goes.

No one, and I mean NO ONE else is authorized to do anything when it comes to student/teacher/townie permissions.

This may eventually change but, as of right now, it's just the two of us... and I know damn well she hasn't approved anyone except our new webmaster in quite some time.

If this persists, everyone here should have these people friended and we will allow 'friends only' posts until the intruders desist.

Please be polite, but inform non-members that they cannot play here without first waiting for open enrollment and then being approved directly by [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor.

Thank you.

Alright, I've now got a better idea of what's going on thanks to the other comments here.

I take it the issue isn't so much the outside characters, as the confusion generated by the -duplicate- characters coming in from the outside.

Seriously, Spider... I love all the hard work you do, but the angry wake-up-call rules making in reaction to small incidents do NOT make for a friendly and fun environment. The Weapons Ban was harsh, but understandable. It left a bad taste in a lot of players' mouths, which got worse with the Death Threat fiasco, and now even worse with this.

I seriously enjoy it here... and I know others do too. I know others want to enjoy it here, but are continually hit with seeming hostility from the admins... and I believe you are posting in character, which is alright... but please, could you go to the individuals before doing something so big? I think that's what the main issue is here... Harsh, Impersonal rulings that slam down out of seemingly no where.

And again, Spider, I really do appreciate all the work you've put in... and honestly, next time you need help managing things, I will step up if you want me. It's a heckuva load to carry on one pair of shoulders.

I'm doing my best, too, to help keep things in order.

Everyone who's been running stuff comes from different RP backgrounds. I have most of my playing experience from Milliways and modding from various small games, and we've not meshed, and stuff.

I'm also only the sideline admin.

But I'm happy to relay stuff, if you don't want to talk to other mods directly.

*nods* Different RP backgrounds can be important too. Most of my experience is actually coming from sages_of_choas which is chaotic and very lose as long as you don't do stupid things. (Yay for a no-violence field.)

*nods* This is actually my first LJ RPG, and all my previous experience is either MUD-based, or D&D-style roleplaying, so I'm used to having a lot of structure in terms of what you can or can't do.

(Which is not to say that my old college D&D group did not get into some seriously insane situations, because OMG. I have stories.)

I suspect some of it is also fandom vs fandom too. What's light and fluffy and normal in, say, BTVS/AtS is probably not going to be considered light and fluffy in a non-horror fandom.

That's a very kind offer for you to make but I really must warn people away from this option unless there is no other way. Nothing loses credibility more than for only one person to go to a mod and say 'some people are having problems and they are afraid to come forward'. Staying anonymous and letting someone else take your case to a moderator or an administrator takes away from the strength and the energy of your argument.

Especially if the moderator finds out who had the problems. goes back to the people who didn't take it to them to begin with and the people downplay the problems. That leaves the middle man looking like a shit stirrer.

If people have a problem, both moderators have an email and they are really good about responding and addressing concerns one on one. It is highly recommended if you want to be heard, you take your complaints/issues/problems yourself and not use a mediator unless there is no other alternative.

What he said.

That's the fastest way to give someone an ulcer.

Likewise, anything I can do to help out, let me know. Nothing admin-ish of course, as my characters are students, but if any teachers want to come down on Anders's slacker ass and make him into an assistant of some sort because it's good for him, hey, feel free. ;)

*snuggles like mad zomg*

I know that I, for one, appreciate all the hard work that you and the other admins have put into this place. I also want to thank you for addressing my own player issue the other day. It was very much appreciated.

This is my first RP, and I've had a lot of fun here, even without much interaction with other players. I hope to remedy this soon, but it's actually quite hard because my character isn't exactly an outgoing, fun person. We'll see how things develop. That's part of the fun. :)

And that's another thing: ALL of the teachers were supposed to be maintainers/mods in addition to characters. But every administrative decision is coming down from [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor and [livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s.

Now, I know that [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor is the law because she created this whole thing - but I think [livejournal.com profile] fandomlounge should be used as more of a mod community where a GROUP of people can discuss issues instead of having two people making all the decisions unilaterally. I suggested this when that comm very first opened and got no response.

I suggested this when that comm very first opened and got no response.

Could very well have gotten lost in all the noise and activity of the comm when we first startd. There was a fair amount of confusing activity there at the beginning.

Still, it's a good idea and now that rules are established, the idea can be revisited.

A suggestion? The threads in this entry are getting long and they've accordioned up. Drop a note to our creator making the suggestion.

Well ... when she gets back and gets caught up.

Or drop it on Spider/mod in an email. Looks like he'll be around all weekend.

Yeah I'll talk to [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor next week at some point. I think people would handle rule changes better if they felt there was a committee making them.

*shrug*

Who knows though.
