fandomhigh | Ethics [Monday, February 12, 5th period]

There was not, for once, a pissed off Lord of the Sith sweeping into the Ethics classroom. Instead, Katara bounced in a few minutes late.

"Hi! So Professor Vader went away and couldn't be here today. But I was given lesson plans so we can still have class." She grinned and looked far too pleased to be in charge. "I know we'll miss him horribly. We're supposed to talk about immortality today. And what you'd give up to get it for yourself or a loved one."

Katara wrinkled her nose, then consciously lowered her voice to a deep growl and tried to mimic Vader's stalk across the room. "Many beings have to make life-altering choices in order to avoid dying, or to try to avoid someone they love dying." She paused, trying both not to giggle and to remember the notes she had puzzled out. "They torture, they make pacts with the spirits, they sell their souls, they give up their faces." Katara had the mimicry in full swing and while a 15 year old girl could only sound so much like Vader, she had the walk and was giving the voice her best shot. "They massacre like the Fire Nation, clone themselves and try to stop time even though that's a silly idea."

She spun around, trying to be half as ~~pretentious~~ imposing as their teacher. "Today we are to discuss what you would give up in order to live forever." Katara glanced at her notes. "And 'you wouldn't' is not an acceptable answer."

"With Alec the goat as back up in the beating?" Sam asked, starting to laugh again.

"Since when have I needed backup?" Dean said. "Go ahead, get it all out. 'Cause I expect you to actually show some sensitivity to his face."

"Seriously?" Sam asked. "Dude, this is karma coming back to kick him in the ass, and you want me to be sensitive?"

"Yeah, I do. Because I wouldn't let him make fun of you if the positions were reversed."

"No, you'd be making fun of me enough for the both of you."

"That's different," Dean insisted.

"Of course it is," Sam replied, in a tone that made it clear that it really wasn't. "Okay, I'll try to be nice to Alec, but if he looks as funny as I'm imagining, I can't guarantee anything."

"It is different," Dean continued doggedly. "When I tease either of you, it's not malicious."

"No, I guess it's not," Sam admitted. "But do you really think Alec would be able to keep from making fun of me if you asked him to?"

"He'd pout at me, but yeah I think he'd try if I asked him," Dean said honestly.

Sam couldn't resist pouting as well. "I said I'll try too."

"That's all I ask," Dean said honestly.

"Fine," Sam replied, sounding exasperated before he smirked. "Am I allowed to try to speak to him in goat?"

"Do you know how to speak goat?" Dean asked hopefully. Because if they were going to get Alec switched back, it would really help to know what happened to make him a goat in the first place.

"No, but I can pretend," Sam replied, bleating softly at Dean. "Honestly though, you may want to find out if they covered goat in Creature Languages, or whatever that class was where people learned how to speak animal."

"Yeah that's an idea," Dean said brightening after looking momentarily disappointed at Sam's negative answer. "The only other thing I'd thought of is a telepath and considering how Alec feels about them..." He looked thoughtful. "Dawn took that class didn't she?"

"Yeah, she did. And she actually seems to like Alec, so I bet she'd help if she can."

Dean nodded. "I'll have to track her down and ask her." He paused. "You wouldn't happen to know what goats are supposed to eat do you?"

"Bread maybe? Leafy green vegetables?" Sam offered. "You could get a variety of stuff, put it all in front of him, and see what he eats."

"That's what I've been doing," Dean said. "So far the answer seems to be 'everything.' I just don't know if it's all good for him."

Sam gave Dean a reassuring look. "As long as you're not feeding him junk food, it's probably good for him."

"So the chocolate bar was probably a bad idea?"

"...remind me never to turn into an animal around you."

"Hey, I was eating one and he was staring at me..."

"You always have been pretty weak against that kind of trick," Sam said. "But that doesn't mean you feed a wild animal chocolate, even if it is really Alec. Stick to farm foods, it'll probably be better for him once whatever this is wears off."
