Science! Thursday, Period 7

Oh yes. It was once again time for Hikaru to teach the class in place of Ms. Frizzle.

“Once again, the Frizz is out today.” Hikaru sat on her desk, chin raised at the assembled class. “But we get to do something a lot less complicated today. We’re making balloon cars.” He started tossing empty milk cartons at people, so hoping one would smack Turtle in the head on its way through the air. “The handouts say you only need half of one of these… so find a partner or something and make them.” He hops of the desk, waving his hand dismissively at everyone. This weeks lesson wasn’t all that exciting, so he couldn’t really come up with anything too strange to do with it.

“Of course, if you’d like to propel your car with something much better than air…” He grinned. “I totally snagged some extra supplies.” And with that, he left the front of the class to go play with the vinegar, baking soda, coke, and mentos he’d grabbed on the way to class.

Valentine saw glue. And balloons. And scissors. And, although the handout was rather straightforward, it appeared that Valentines did not do handouts.
So he settled for dabbling in the glue for a while before seeing how long it would take for the markers to stick to his hands while he juggled them. That seemed far more interesting, anyhow.

Valentine was too good for that, really, but if a sticky marker happened to fly off in the direction of a certain TA... well, he couldn't be blamed one bit. Oh no.

It wasn't until she realized she needed a green marker that Turtle noticed that someone seemed to have them all (except for a few that didn't work very well). And was juggling them. It also wasn't until she went over to Valentine did Turtle remember that he still needed to be kicked for the panty theft.

So, promptly, her foot went crashing into his leg and she said, "I need a green marker."

Valentine might have made a squeaking sound that possibly denoted that he was neither dignified, or very important at all. The squeaking sound lied.
He promptly ceased the juggling act, mostly because he had missed half the markers in his flaily reaction to being legstomped, and waved the green one in the direction of the very straightforward individual. He didn't want to be stomped again, so he even had the decency to wipe the glue off of it first.

Turtle appriciated the quick response, swiping up requested marker, but feeling that there was a miscommunication. Her eyes narrowed slightly. "You know I didn't kick you for the marker, right?"

"You didn't?" Valentine would have paled slightly, if it was at all possible to do so through a mask. "Then what was it?"

"Oh, I don't know," Turtle crossed her arms over her chest and glared. "Do the words 'panty raid' ring a bell?"

"I was kissing," Valentine said indignantly. Granted, he was boykissing so that the panty raid would be more successful... "It wasn't all that terrible, was it?"

Yeah. Like Hikaru could give Turtle rubber bands and not expect her to shoot them at him. Pretending, of course, to be very into her work the moment they left her hands and went racing toward his head. Hum hum hum, can't prove anything.

That was a good questions, especially since Turtle had been sitting there nicely, the whole time, just working on her race car and whistling innocently.

Like she was going to do it when he was clearly expecting it. Idly gluing a fin to her milk carton, she looked around for a new victim. Where was Nova and, most importantly, was he working in a spot where she could easily shoot at him?

Which left a slightly stinging pain in her cheek and a nice little glob of glue-and-glitter marking the hit. Turtle's head snapped toward Hikaru, eyes narrowed in a glare as she pointedly wiped her cheek.

Which smeared glitter and glue all over her hand. She shook her hand. Crap. That stuff wasn't coming off. She wiped it on her jeans. Most of it stayed, although now she had glitter on her jeans, too. Dammit!

Turtle wondered, as a wadded up ball of paper that she'd rolled around in glue went soaring for Hikaru's head, if payback would still taste sweet when he couldn't get a ball of paper out of that stupid hair of his.

Sokka was a flurry of activity. Ignoring simple airpower, he cut and glued milk cartons into smaller boxes, used straws as pipes, put balloons anywhere that seemed appropriate... And by the end of class, had a pretty serviceable liquid-fuel rocket car (powered by one tank of vinegar and another of baking soda-and-water solution).

Which is painted a deep blue, with a boomerang on one side and a... deformed epileptic spider thing -- which is SUPPOSED to be a sabretooth moose-lion cub -- on the other.

Nova, though a little distracted by everyone else's creative use of the supplies, started working on his own car, following the directions carefully.

After he was done creating the car, he decorated it. Nova decided to take a few extra balloons and rubber bands for himself, because you never knew when those kinds of things would come in handy.

A rubber band flew by Nova, landing lamely in front of him. It was intended to hit him in the head, but, when Turtle launched it, she herself was being hit (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1227014.html?thread=71947782#t71947782).

Nova didn't seem to notice the rubber band attack. He was busy being artsy. He had taken his extra balloons and rubber bands and was currently making little passengers for his car (balloon people with rubbery bandy limbs).

He removed the big launcher balloon. It took up too much space, and the balloon people needed space. He even took the time to draw little faces on them and gave each one a name. Oddly enough, there seemed to be one for everyone in class.

Mac? Not entirely sure how she's going to make one of these cartons look like a Beetle.

Still, she started looking around for green markers, and seemed a little put out that they all seemed to be mysteriously gone.
