Elliot had a slide of the lymphatic system up on the screen behind her, and there was a strange-looking slab of meat rested on each lab table. She bounced on her toes before beginning.

"Okay guys, today we are learning about the lymphatic system. It's a little more complex than what we've covered so far, but I know you're up for it, so let's just jump in. The lymphatic system has three functions - it removes extra fluids from body tissues, absorbs fatty acids and transports fat to the circulatory system, and makes immune cells, like lymphocytes."

"The important parts of the lymphatic system are the cervical nodes, lymph vessels, thymus, axillary nodes, tonsils, spleen and inguinal nodes. You can remember them with the mnemonic, 'Children like to ask teachers sexual idioms.' " She went on with her lecture for a bit; when she was nearly done, her fingers went to the side of her throat. "If you have a tiny bit of a cold, or sore throat, or whatever, you can probably feel your cervical nodes, here. Don't press too hard, you could end up knocking yourself out." Her hands fluttered down to her sides.

"I just wanted to focus on one part of the system with more detail than your textbook covers, and that is the magnificent spleen. It's a ductless, vertebrate organ, and even though it's part of the lymphatic system, it's also associated with the circulatory system, where it helps destroy old red blood cells and holds a reservoir of blood. And what's really cool is that for a long time, no one really knew why we had it? But now we're figuring out that its absence can make you get some infections. Oh, and also, one in ten of you has an extra teensy spleen or three. It's harmless, just a little quirk that forms where the nerves and blood vessels enter the main spleen. It's all almost as cool as the endocrine system."

She pointed to the slabs on the tables. "Now strap on gloves and goggles, get into groups, and get to cutting up these cow spleens. You're looking for the splenic artery, the splenic vein, and the renal, colic and stomach areas."

Henry wrote down everything Dr. Reid said. He refrained from making anger jokes about the spleen.

Tannim took notes and doodled Mustangs in the margins.

~~As promised because SPLEEN OMG,~~ Batman walked into the classroom, curious about what this teacher had for her students to learn about anatomy. Knowledge, apparently, was what she had.

He pulled a bat-notepad out of his utility belt and jotted something down with his bat-pen.

Elliot eyed the man in the costume, and approached him after her lecture. "Hi, I'm Dr. Reid," she said. "I'm going to guess you're school board and don't just randomly like sitting in on high school classes."

"Excellent deduction, my dear doctor," Batman said. "I'm Batman."

"Hi, Batman," Elliot said. "Um, welcome, talk to the kids if you want."

She paused and added, "So can you echolocate? Because that would be cool."

"Not by myself, no, but I do have bat-radar built into most of my vehicles. Including my very nice car," Batman said. Chicks dug the car.

"And there's no need for me to speak to the students. I am here merely as an observer. Thank you for the offer, though."

[OOC: I stared at "echolocate" for a full minute trying to figure out why she was asking about chocolate and how that typo even happened. *sighs at self*]

"That would probably help you parallel park," Elliot said thoughtfully. "Anyhow, okay, let me know if you have questions. I've been teaching for about eight months? So I mostly have the hang of it. I think" It looked like the question was starting to stress her out.

[OOC: Hee. I'm impressed I managed to spell it right.]

"Just one question at the moment," Batman said. "You're not an evil robot, are you?"

Elliot had been in Fandom long enough to take the question literally. "Nope," she said. "100 percent human."

"Excellent. But are you evil?" Batman asked.

"Nah. Not at all. I had this one ex who said I was kind of evil when I had PMS?" Elliot said. "But he was being totally unfair and didn't really like women anyhow, and it's not like I threw the vase at his head on purpose or anything." She was starting to pout.

Batman nodded. "I'm sure you didn't. And I have to say, it seems like you're doing a wonderful job here. Just be sure to smile, okay?" There was a reason why this Batman wasn't called the Dark Knight.

"Absolutely," Elliot said, baring her teeth. "Thanks, Batman."

JD noticed the guy in the funky costume come in. Without asking, or thinking about it, he reached out and started reaching for something random on the utility belt.

"Hey cool! How do I get one of these?"

Ray listened to the lecture and spent some time doodling.
