Extraterrestrial Civilizations - Class 5 [2/7, Period 4]

"Good afternoon," Ellie greeted the class. "Today's guest is decidedly less fuzzy than last week." She couldn't help but give the woman waiting to speak a slightly nervous glance; something about her just seemed off. "Please give your attention to Diana of Saurus."

[Still in floral hell. Send help. Send booze. Pings may be slow. Also, LJ is hoarding some notifications, I've noticed. *smacks it*]

Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[identity profile] ec-npc.livejournal.com 2007-02-07 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
A woman with dark hair and wearing a red uniform and sunglasses stepped forward. "My name is Diana," she began. "Well, that is not my true name, but it is the name I have taken to better fit in to your world. I am from the fourth planet orbiting the star you call Sirius, 8.7 light years from Earth. Our name for our race is not pronouncable by your tongues, so we called ourselves 'Visitors.' We wish to be your friends." She smiled.

"This is the first time my people have left our stellar system, and you are the first intelligent life we have encountered. We are very pleased to meet you. We have been monitoring your world for quite some time to learn your language.

"I have come on behalf of our Great Leader," Diana continued, "because we are in need of your help. Our planet is in serious environment difficulties, far worse than what you have here. We have reached the stage where we cannot survive without assistance. There are certain chemicals and compounds we must manufacture to save our world. You can help us with this, and in return, we will gladly share with you all the fruits of our knowledge.

"I am head Science Office of our fleet, serving under the Supreme Commander, John, and I am in charge of Visitor security. If you have any questions for me, I would be pleased to answer them."

Chad felt the need to write some of that down. When Diana was finished with her introduction, he looked over what he had written before raising his hand with a question.

"...Your Supreme Commander's name is John?"

"That is the name he has taken to fit in with your species," Diana said smoothly.
multiplez: (Are you for real?)

Z pointed at Chad. "What he said, and also, what sort of chemicals and compounds are you trying to manufacture?"

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[identity profile] ec-npc.livejournal.com 2007-02-07 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oxides, halides, sulfides," Diana said. "Nothing your planet does not already possess in abundance."
multiplez: (Let's be serious.)

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[personal profile] multiplez 2007-02-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"For what purpose?" Z asked her.

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[identity profile] ec-npc.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
"To...replenish the soils of our homeworld so that we may grow food again," Diana said.

And that pause had been long enough to make Z suspicious. "How come you look human? Or is this another 'Earth isn't the only place where humans live' thing?"

[identity profile] ec-npc.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I suspect we had parallel evolutionary processes," Diana said. "We are not entirely identical, however. Our eyes are much more sensitive to the light than yours. We also eat hamsters."
multiplez: (doubtful Z)

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[personal profile] multiplez 2007-02-08 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh-huh. Why can't you grow food, again?"

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[identity profile] ec-npc.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"We have depleted the nutrients in our soil," Diana explained. "But the reasons why aren't important. What's important is the knowledge we can offer you, isn't it?"
multiplez: (Sassy Z)

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[personal profile] multiplez 2007-02-08 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Not if the knowledge you're going to give us lands us in the same boat you're in. I mean, it's not very bright to destroy your own ecosystem so totally you have to go to a planet that's in the throes of global warming for help, is it?" Z asked her.

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[identity profile] ec-npc.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Diana glared at Z. Possibly imagining having her for dinner. "It's up to you how you use the knowledge," she said tightly.
multiplez: (Are you for real?)

"Then we're so screwed."

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[identity profile] fh-kyochan.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Armed with his usual utter lack of tact, Kyo raised a hand and blurted out, "How did you manage to get your planet in such a freakin' mess?"

Re: Guest Speaker Diana [2/7]

[identity profile] ec-npc.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"That's not really important," Diana said. "But it was years of abusing the environment. Much as you are doing to this world now."
multiplez: (Are you for real?)

Z passed a note to Chad that read, John? Really?

Chad grunted (quietly) and wrote back, Guess so. I woulda at least gone with Juan.

Guess the Earth media they monitored didn't include telenovelas, Z wrote and passed back to him.
