Forensic Science 2/7, 5th period

Abby was on the phone when the students entered the danger shop; arguing with someone about a Caf-Pow! delivery. "You're already one day late. I can't be held responsible for my actions if you don't get it here today. No, that's not a threat against you. I'm a high school teacher, it's not like I'm going to come after you or anything. It's just that I've accidentally killed the wrong person already because I didn't drink enough Caf-Pow!, I don't want that to happen agai-hello? Hello?"

Abby shook her head and slammed down the phone. "Stupid delivery men." Pointing to the stools in the lab, she stalked over to the whiteboard to start the lecture. "I'm not in the best of moods today so lets try getting through the lecture quickly so you can go do your crime scene work. Today we're talking about trace evidence. It's the itty bitty things that are found at crime scenes that you'll be responsible for collecting, cataloging and identifying. Trace evidence includes hairs, fibers, soils, botanical materials, residue from gunshot or explosives." Abby gave a handwavy lecture on using microscopes and lab equipment to test evidence. "Basically, you're going to be collecting everything and bringing it back to the lab. Most of it will be crap, but some will help you solve the crime and identify the killers."

Walking to the door of the lab, Abby walked through, motioning the students to stand with her around an outdoor pool. The water was drained from the majority of the pool, leaving a few dirty feet of water in the deep end and two bodies in the shallow end. "There was a party here last night, lots of drinking and dancing and two deaths. Some say the men just had too much drink, some say they committed suicide. It's your job to gather as much trace evidence as you can and use it to discover what happened."

Pointing to a stack of rubber waders, Abby stood back to let the students put them on and climb down into the pool. "This is Aziraphale and not-Wilson." Abby glared a little at Neil and shook her head. "Apparently when I've not had enough caffeine, people are a little fuzzy to me. In my defense, he looks very similar. Whatever. Neil deserves to have his murder avenged as well. Remember to get the trace evidence from the water in the pool and the bodies. Go for it."

Lana carefully presented her evidence showing that the crime boss had worked the two over before his son, the tree-hugging hippie had helped him finish them off.

"Thanks, Miss Sciuto," Lana said with a smile. "I really enjoy forensics and this is a great class."

"Oh, I am," Lana said. "I studied forensics last year with Ms. Sidle from the Las Vegas CSI unit - but it was more the technical/chemical side of things. Which was great too, but it's fun to get to do some of the more hands-on stuff."

Lana grinned. "I would never tell Ms. Sidle to her face, but oh yeah. She was good, but you are in another category altogether."

Lana grinned and hugged her back. "Glad I could help," she replied happily.

The Tree-hugging hippie clearly had bbq sauce on his shirt and grey buttons on his black blazer.

"Aha! The hippie did it!" she exclaimed.

"Thank you Professor. It is a fun class." She didn't mention that it was often made more fun by the presence of a certain person named Billy. "I have to say talking to pretend dead people is an entertaining experience."

John's evidence pointed to the federal judge covering for the dot com geek going bust with the crime boss. That explains the one death, with trace evidence linking to all three. The other? Looked like wrong place wrong time.

John may also have 'misplaced' a high-caffeine candy bar within eyesight of his professor.

John hoped that bribing gifting a teacher wouldn't adversely affect his grade.

"The tox screen said that both of them had less than a beer each. There's no way they died from carelessness brought on by intoxication, not even if they can't hold their alcohol. Suicide doesn't fit in with the other injuries. They had defensive injuries, both of them, and they both died within minutes of each other from drowning. Plus there was evidence at the scene that didn't belong to either victim. The black button was an anomaly. I ran a tox screen on the food retrieved as well, based on what we learned about that, but there was no sign of anything that would affect them. All of that suggests foul play. That's where the physical evidence comes in. The relevant evidence points to the movie mogul. I'm pretty sure the Professor and the movie mogul got into a fight, the movie guy drowned the Professor and then Neil stumbled on the scene. Panicking and not wanting to get caught, the movie guy turned on Neil and killed him too. We can probably match up the DNA and bruises to match the movie guy's hands."

One day, Lucas will just shut up, point to the bad guy and hand in his evidence on paper. Today is not that day.

"Thanks. I like having something to do, something to solve."

Lucas gave her a half-grin, the kind that suggested that he'd like that, but without looking too smug. "Bring it on," he said. Unfortunately, it was hard to stop anything coming out of his mouth that wasn't at least a little bit smug. "What I mean to say is that I'd appreciate any challenge."

Lana caught Abby at the beginning of the class to let her know Jim wouldn't be there due to sickness.

After reviewing the evidence helpfully written down for her by Aziraphale and Neil, as well as the trace evidence analyzed by Parker, Zero attacked the ankles of the dotcommer to indicate his guilt.
